Loved their scallops.
The overall ambiance is nice, a bit dark-ish. The staff if friendly
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant has a lot of things going for it.
The location, the ambience, and five star service. What's disappointing is the food, which is mediocre at best. It's difficult for my wife and I as all of the staff are so exceptional and welcoming. We always felt very at home and it is so near where we live.

The ambience of the restaurant is unparalleled with its murals throughout. Service is excellent, informed and personal. The problem is the food. What was not long ago one of the go-to restaurants in the city has become a culinary embarrassment . We were a group of eight, and the food ranged from mediocre to bad. My wife and I both had venison in a red wine reduction sauce. What was presented was two hunks of way overdone meat with perhaps a tablespoon of sauce. There was a vague taste of venison. Two vegetable side dishes were cooked beyond recognition. Six others with us were equally disappointed. I e-mailed the Leopard about our experience and did not receive a reply so it is my suspicion that the restaurant is deliberately dumbing down the food in order to bankrupt it and get out of their lease.
Be the first to ReplyWith the price they charge food taste so gross.
I could not finish my pappardelle. The service is top notch though.

The Leopard at des Artistes offers a seasonal menu and a live jazz brunch, in addition to participating in restaurant week. We came here for brunch, as I wanted to check out the jazz! Brunch menu is served, in addition to their regular a la carte - we ordered: +the Smoked Scottish Salmon -served with Robiolina cheese, red onions, Sicilian capers, and country bread +the Waffle - a Belgium waffle with Nutella and berries +a Burger - Colorado wagyu beef, roasted tomatoes, careamlized onions, lettuce, and a side of fries Unfortunately, the food was left to be desired - it wasn't too bad, but it wasn't worth the price point and for its taste. Service seemed a little rushed, even though we were one of, if maybe, two parties dining in - we thought that the place would be packed for brunch. The live jazz was a solo guitarist; I expected it to be a band of some sort. You feel like you're dining in a gallery; the aesthetics are nice. This was a no dice for us. +rushed service

We loved the Leopard signature drink and the food was amazingly delicious.

TLDR: This stunningly-decorated restaurant serves mediocre lasagna. Beautiful historic murals line the walls, good service, undistinguished food. What an unfortunate mismatch! Expensive and you can get better lasagna almost anywhere.
Be the first to ReplyMy partner and I went here for our 4 year anniversary.
We forgot that it was restaurant week and it was nice to get amazing food at such a great value. We got to pick where we sat, and the place is so beautiful filled with paintings. The ambiance is definitely upscale as it is in a hotel, but I appreciated the details in every corner. The service is why I am giving this review a 5 star rating. The food was delicious, but our servers and wait staff were incredibly attentive and accommodating. It was a bit hot where we were sitting in the front dining room, and so we asked to move and they were so kind to do so. They brought up our anniversary and handed us our desserts with "Happy Anniversary" chocolate pieces on top. We loved our appetizers the most! We also left with complimentary biscotti, and I want to bring all of my friends and family here.

Last night, we brought friends from Portugal to The Leopard for a leisurely dinner that, as it turned out, lasted three hours. I myself have been coming to this venue since the 1970s, when it was Cafe des Artistes and the cuisine was French, but was saddened when it closed a few years ago. Unfortunately, I would have to say that our reaction to our experience last night was mixed, at best. On the positive side, the ambience and decor are among the best anywhere on the Upper Westside; moreover, the staff couldn't have been more attentive and professional. On the negative side, however, we found the food distinctly underwhelming; mediocre at best, pretty unpalatable at worst. The other unpleasant aspect of the experience was what I had when I used the men's room: not to put too fine a point on things, it was not clean, and didn't seem to have been cleaned that day. While it pains me to write such a mixed review for a restaurant my wife and I want very much to survive, and thrive, I hope the management can make use of this information and make the necessary amendments before this reincarnation of des Artistes goes the way of its predecessor. NYC is such a competitive dining environment, and no venue that is this pricey can hope to last very long without excellent cuisine. We will return in the future to give The Leopard another chance, especially since we love Italian food, but it may be the final time we do.

The restaurant itself is beautiful and the portions are pretty good for a pricier place. However, I felt I was definitely treated MUCH differently than the rest of the customers by all staff. I don't want to think this was so, but it seemed we were waited on and treated differently because we might not have "looked the part" like the other guest did. But that did not mean we didn't or do not have money in our pockets that we wanted to spend on an amazing meal. The couple next to us had desserts and portions of meals brought out to them, even after they paid their bill. The waiter was constantly waiting on them and giving them exceptional service, meanwhile, we had to wait a long time to even have our order taken. The waiter didn't even bother to tell us the specials - good thing we over heard them being told to other couples or else we would've missed out. Also, food was mediocre. For a pretty hefty bill and a dinner in the city, I was expecting so much more. I could've had a much better Italian meal in the suburbs of New Jersey.

One of the best Italian experiences: delicious food, great service, great ambiance. We dined before Met Opera. Burrata and sformato were delicious appetizers. For entrees we tried the penne pasta special which was great. Branzino with sautéed spinach was perfectly prepared as well. Tiramisu was out of this world.
Be the first to ReplyGood local spot near upper west side.
It's especially good to try their outdoor seating in the summer

We used to be regular patrons of this restaurant and decided to give it another go for New Year's eve. Very disappointing. We made reservations for indoor dining and requested a spacious table in a quiet spot. Ok, it's New Year's eve so that was no doubt wishful thinking, but they gave us literally the worst table in the house and told us that was all that was available ( even though there were plenty of others). I guess we are no longer regulars and we certainly won't be based on our experience tonight.Anyway we decided we would rather eat outside as it was more spacious and quieter. They were totally understaffed and what was once their greatest asset (their amazing service) was awful. A very disappointing New Year's eve dinner. I'll give them four out of five only because the food was good as always.

Be the first to ReplyGreat for weekend brunch.
Live jazzy music outdoors that gives it a good vibe. There's a special brunch menu but I do recommend taking a look at their full menu. The Tagliatelle Ragu pasta was wonderful. Got wine recommendations and they were great as well. Will come again for dinner!

I've eaten here many times and loved it--delicious and unusual preparations. Nice staff. Pricey but worth it. However something has changed. The last 3 visits were very disappointing. under-seasoned, uninteresting tuna tartar, bland chestnut pasta and an equally uninteresting second pasta dish. The previous time we ordered different items and felt similarly. Perhaps they have a new chef because I've eaten these dishes before and thought they were excellent. Given the relatively high prices, I won't be back, which is a pity because it's a lovely spot, quiet and pleasant.

coming to this lovely restaurant since the days when showbiz folks gathered there after Lincoln Center performances. It was always pricey but the food and service were good. You never felt cheated. Not anymore. At a birthday celebration last night, I wanted to make a champagne toast. The restaurant's offerings didn't include prices. But not wanting to quibble publicly over cost, I proceeded to order a bottle of Moët Chandon. The waiter never mentioned price. Now perhaps I know why. When the bill came, the bubbly's cost came to $750. Yes, It was fine champagne. But was it the worth the exorbitant tab? I checked a local wine store today: a bottle of Moët Chandon of similar vintage listed at $105. Quite a markup! In his day, proprietor George Lang would never have treated Café des Artistes patrons so shabbily.
Be the first to ReplyLamb chops and appetizers were delicious.
The wait staff was very attentive. Nice pre or post-Lincoln Center event splurge.
Be the first to ReplyI came here a week or two ago on a date.
The restaurant is very stunning and I absolutely love the paintings inside. I ordered the risotto special and my date ordered the pasta special. I wasn't that impressed with the food. The risotto broth lacked depth and the pasta wasn't homemade. I think the best part of the meal was the wine and the biscotti!
Be the first to ReplySuch a disapointment.
As an upper west sider, I wanted this place to be great, it was not. The atmospher was incredible, classic NYC at it's best. We were greated by a great staff and given a prime table. This place is perfect for conversation and people watching. Witnessed a couple get engaged this evening...what a treat. The only thing missing was the food. It was bad. The location and the atmospher deseves better. It's patrons and staff deserves better. Here's hoping.

Classy and classic Central Park West institution that stays relevant by constantly keeping modern. Spring menu had amazing new choices- lump crabmeat starter, sea bream roll stuffed with tomatoes and prosciutto lardon ribbons, clams and shrimp in a saffron broth. Service was impeccable. Reasonably priced wine list, considering everything else. Can get moderately loud between 6:30 and 8:30.

Food is ok at best. Should have checked the reviews. Dont waste your time.

5 but bumping it to 4 because our server was very friendly and courteous. I wished I got his name. We came around 7:45 with reservations and were seated immediately. Upon entering, I was impressed by the classy ambiance. Our appetizers came very quickly and both dishes were just okay. I ordered gnocchi and it was delicious! I would definitely order this again. Our dessert was the biggest disappointment. Our server recommended Zabaione which is made with egg yolks, sugar, and sweet wine topped with seasonal fruits. This was more of a personal preference as my friend really enjoyed it, but it just wasn't it for me. Overall, I would most likely return and try other things on their menu. This place is ideal for dates, business meetings, or even family dinners.
Be the first to ReplyExquisite service.
Went there for restaurant week. The chocolate mousse was sublime. Loved the arugula salad and meatballs. The pasta was okay. The mussels were amazing. Great cocktails.
