The Misfit Restaurant + Bar Santa Monica Reviews from The Last Year
The ambiance is nice.
I had lunch there with some colleagues. That's when I would recommend going. They get pretty busy for dinner. The friendliness of the service staff is mixed. I've had a very nice attentive server and also some others who will slam a drink on the table and walk away with no eye contact or words. The food I had was delicious. I recommend the beet salad and the prime rib Nik Niks ! Price is a little high. But it's Santa Monica

This little spot allowed us the recluse to regroup after failed dinner plans. We sat at the bar, and the bar tenders were so accommodating and prompt. We had two espresso martinis (wish they had Kahlua) and bacon wrapped dates (yummy but a little dry). Nice, cozy spot. And
Loved the food, drinks, and service.
Place had nice decor and good music. We will be back.
Bacon wrapped figs and burger were two best dishes out of
Bacon wrapped figs and burger were two best dishes out of everything we ordered. The rest was OK.
1st visit for lunch the place is fabulous.
The history, the lunch options, the drink menu all GREAT! The employees are super friendly too. If you're looking for a classy but casual, great food, eclectic/1940s vibe...you'll love this place! Pro tips: the Mac n cheese. It will not disappoint! Park at structure on 2nd street. Just a 2 minute walk. ENJOY!
Came for lunch on a Saturday! FLAVOR (3.
7/5): 1. JAPANESE DREAM: I really liked this drink! Smooth and the basil comes through without being too overpowering. 2. CRISPY BRUSSELS SPROUTS: I've had crispy brussels sprouts at about every establishment in LA and unfortunately these fall short. They're good, but the flavor isn't soaked all the way through like with Bacari's brussels sprouts. 3. MARKET TOMATOES: This was a nice, light appetizer! The tomatoes were fresh and everything was nicely seasoned. SERVICE (5/5): Service was amazing! AMBIENCE (5/5): The Misfit is a cute bar and was relatively busy for a rainy afternoon. Definitely a great date spot! PARKING (5/5): To the reviewer who said to park at 1444 4th St, Santa Monica, CA 90401 for 90 minutes free parking... you are amazing. TAKEAWAYS: Would definitely come back again and try more of their drinks - I'm curious what the vibe is at night... I imagine it's pretty popular.
Walking around Santa Monica makes you hungry.
. we came across them hidden gem that has Happy Hour from 12-7. We stopped in to refuel and refresh.. had their Smash Burger and homemade fries.. both were delicious. I then had to try the refreshing If it ain't broke.. it was a refreshing mezcal with pineapple and a bit of spice. So good I had 2. It is just a short walk from the 3rd Street Promenade.
My all-time favorite lunch spot is The Misfit.
Diamond and his team make the best cocktails and make you feel at home. Donald is a great manager, as is his team. The vibe is calming. Food is delicious!
Really like this place, the look is great and a great
Really like this place, the look is great and a great casual place to go eat good food. I've had a really good experience the 1st and so went a 2nd time. On the 2nd occasion I had my kids with me and we ordered steaks, which were pretty trash.....and very disappointing. Asked for medium well and they came medium rare. The cuts of meat were terrible, especially for what was stated to be dry aged steaks.... Service was good on both occasions, we had what seemed to be a junior server the 2nd time, and although not as knowledgeable about the bar and menu, she was very nice a friendly. Since is had a good and bad experience going to give it another go one more time, before calling it quits on this place.
The misfit used to be my favorite restaurant when I lived
The misfit used to be my favorite restaurant when I lived in LA in 2015. After much anticipation, it's still a great choice for a unique, quality meal. Drinks: a separated bar section with a beautiful library backdrop where you can grab a drink while you wait for a table. They had removed my favorite drink from the menu sometime over the last 8 years but the new menu still had appealing options. Talented, friendly bartenders though we opted for wine. Food: got the yellowtail carpaccio (delightful), vegetarian tacos (solid), bacon wrapped dates (oh my god), and Brussels sprouts (yum but straightforward). Ended with their famous salted chocolate chip cookies that they keep in the glass display by the front door - make sure to grab a couple on your way out. Ambiance: feels like an east side or nyc restaurant - you don't expect it to be in SM. High ceilings, wooden accents, shelves of antique books behind the bar... it's just so cool. There is a fun second floor table that can be rented if you want a bit more privacy and/or want to people watch but it's next to the kitchen so you'll have servers coming by. Our server was helpful and patient with us, even with our smaller order. Overall: Great option for tourists or locals looking for a delicious, reasonably priced, nice meal. Will be returning asap. I was really happy to see that the misfit is still quality.
Amazing drinks and stellar atmosphere.
I highly recommend!! Location was perfect for our last work trip.
Misfits is the perfect name for this restaurant.
This was by far our biggest disappointment in our LA dining experience this week. What a dumpster fire this place is. Where do I start? I know, with the underwhelming food. The menu on its surface excited us. We ordered a lot of food in order to taste a wide range of items. I'll just list what we ordered instead of commenting on each one because honestly each item was worse than the next. We ordered the ahi tuna hamachi, corn chowder, lobster slider, beef slider, bacon wrapped dates, fries, Mac & cheese, broccoli, crunchy tacos, and the "gelato". First, this was not gelato (despite the fact the server told us it was homemade). Total BS. It was ice cream and was not good. The food was lacking flavor, no care for presentation, and just so mediocre. This place has so much potential with the decor, ambiance and location, but unfortunately the menu is very subpar and you can tell the chefs, er cooks don't give a D about the quality coming out of the kitchen. Skip this place unless you want just drinks at the bar, so many better spots In Santa Monica to hit up.
I went last night for dinner.
They have a great location and the vibe is nice inside. I had the clams and mussels, they were a little bland, but still decent. Drink was good. My server (Sage) was very nice and fun! Why am I giving this place a one star? Because of the SCAM FEE I found on the receipt. At the bottom of the receipt I was hit with a 4% "Kitchen Fee." Some scam artist owners will do this as they are too scared to raise their food prices as they fear losing customers, so they will ILLEGALLY add a bs fee on the receipt to make up for that $. Most people don't fully read their receipts, and therefore will not see that they were hit with an illegal charge. Needless to say, I was LIVID. I had the "kitchen fee" taken off immediately. I work in the industry, so I know what the "domino" effect to this illegal fee does to the staff. People will yell and scream at the servers and the managers. People will also not tip the servers out of spite for the illegal fee. People will also be confused and think that this added fee is an included tip and will not tip the servers. So, because the owner chooses to be a coward and chooses to scam loyal customers, the negative reactions are at the staffs expense. I will never again support this establishment while it is being run by an unethical, coward, scam artist owner who clearly doesn't respect their customers.
The name fits this restaurant.
Good and attentive waitress, the restaurant is super cute, so much potential sadly the food sucks. We ordered : wanted to taste a little of everything. We ordered the following: The corn chowder The lobster rolls The corn tacos Charred broccoli Ahi tuna Prime rib sliders Mac and cheese Fries And bacon wrapped dates. Very disappointed- lacked flavor in every category. Total waste of money! Only good for cocktails.
Had made reservations for a Tuesday evening, and this place
Had made reservations for a Tuesday evening, and this place was busy! There was no host(es) when we entered and we waited for a good 7 minutes just for someone to come greet us and then eventually take us to our table. We were bringing in a close friends birthday, so we stuck to drinks and ordered our food togo. Our cocktails included Fin n' Juice, Chrisopher Oaxacan, and One Night in Babylon - all of them were really good! Food included Baby Cauliflower ($15), and the stem was a little hard to chew, but a tasty dish and Falafel Lettuce Wraps ($18) which were probably best to be consumed in the restaurant itself - because they got very dry by the time I ate the wrap. Microwave heating did not help either, and the harissa tahini was lesser than I would've liked it to be. Noise levels were on the medium end, service though, once we were seated, was excellent. Food arrived within 15-mins of placing our order.

The best gluten free Mac and cheese you will ever taste!!!!! Very casual bar with incredible food choices! Service is prompt and ambiance is fun. Date worthy
The quality of the food, the ambiance and staff belies
The quality of the food, the ambiance and staff belies their name. A wonderful place that I won't hesitate to go back to. I wholeheartedly recommend the misfit.
I applied there during renovations to no avail.
..BUT aesthetically the atmosphere drew me in initially. The dear miss at the host stand was nice but a little stand offish (which I liked based on the name of the place) I have never eaten here but friends have and LOVED it! I'm just here to say that the outcasts win without trying
Great food, great bar! Tons of great options.
Friend has a gluten allergy and they're always accommodating!

The Misfit has become such a reliable happy hour spot for my group of friends! From the incredible happy hour deals (until 7 pm too which is great) to the good food options, it's everything you want in an after-work spot. The presentation of the food is always great, and the scenery inside is a getaway from bustling Santa Monica.
Chicken Sandwich Euphoria
This place has been on my Santa Monica list for years. We arrived about 30 minutes before they opened, no problem since its so centrally located near 3rd street promenade. We walked up to the hostess about 10 minutes before opening and were quickly greeted and seated inside near the window. The first thing that stands out is the decor i mean wow its beautiful in there. An homage to the prohibition area of the 1920's. seats were comfortable and the atmosphere was awesome. I imagine on a busy afternoon or evening this place is bustling! Food: Crispy Chicken Sandwich - jidori chicken breast. fennel slaw. granny smith apple. spicy mayo This is the star! one of the top 10 chicken sandwiches i have ever eaten. The coleslaw was fresh and the chicken fried to perfection. The sauce was heavenly and the apple slice at the bottom was an amazing surprise. GET THIS! The Smash Burger - double patty. tillamook cheddar. red onion. pickles. lettuce. tomato. secret sauce Very good burger, but compared to the chicken sandwich it pales in comparison. Hand Cut Kennebec Fries - Crispy salty delicious and HUGE enough for 3 people at least. Sauce Tip: Get the house-made honey mustard it's AMAZING Drinks: They have a huge bar that really is the centerpoint of the restaurant with anything you could possibly want. Service: Both the Hostess and the server were extremely friendly and the food came out very quickly. Dessert: Had both the pistachio and mint ice creams, both were super underwhelming, with the mint one being the most egregious. This was the most bitter ice cream I have eaten, I see what they were going for here but the bits of actual mint leaves just kinda ruined the flavor overall. Price: We went for Lunch and it was on the more expensive side. The sandwiches dont come with any sides so add $10 for them and you are looking in the $22 range without drinks. Compared to other places in the area I think it's right in line for the price. You are better off with the complimentary sea salt cookies as you walk out. Parking tip - Use the public parking structure on Santa Monica & 4th street you get 90 minutes for free. 1444 4th St, Santa Monica, CA 90401 Overall a great experience and a top restaurant in Santa Monica check it out!
Your Taste Buds will love it!
Had a delicious dinner here recently! So tasty. Easy to park nearby and Santa Monica looked so pretty with the trees lit up outside. It's a great bar and the menu is amazing! Highly recommend.
Great Place, Great Food, Great Service
Great food, great place, great service. We had the crispy chicken sandwich, the house salad, the sichuan tomatoes and the clams&muscles, everything was great.
Excellent food and vibes
Our son recommended this restaurant when we arrived in LA. Big shout out to our waiter Sage who was personable and charming! Our lobster sandwiches (I forgot what you call them!) were amazing. Great ambiance and super nice manager! We’ll be back!
Discriminatory and Unprofessionally
Discriminatory and threatening and unsafe conduct from staff. The manager told us to "F*** off" when he said he would sit us and then changed his mind. The host then proceeded to call me pathetic and miserable and then they called the police on us. The general manager then threatened physical force to remove us. We explained to the police what happened. The police agreed that it was bad customer service on the part of the restaurant but that the level of cursing and threats didn't rise to physical criminal threats under Cal. Penal Code 422. I didn't agree that it wasn't physically threatening. The backstory is that my friends and I, from out of town, tried to get a seat at the Misfit on a Friday night. Both are from the inner City, and I wanted them to have a nice meal. I had problems arranging with their Yelp seating. We can at 11:30, they're last call, but the host said we came at 11:35. Really; it appears that the host didn't want to sit us because he wanted to go home. (Instead, he should have been focused on the reputation and service of the restaurant and the way he is representing the owner and founder of the place.) The manager agreed to sit us for appetizers, but for some reason, after talking to the tired host, the manager then changed his mind. Two of my friends were young Hispanic guys, and I'm a minority myself. The two that were cursing and yelling at us were both white males. We believe we were discriminated against. It's clear the guy who cussed at us, threatened us physically, and called the police has anger issues and self-control issues. It's my view he really shouldn't be in charge of managing people. I called the restaurant the next day to complain. The manager said she'd call me back in an hour and never did. I emailed the management team and heard nothing as well. I also called their corporate office to leave a message. I'm very disappointed in how this restaurant treated us. I'm disappointed that the management team never addressed our concerns. All they had to tell us, if they were really unable to sit us, is that they were sorry we drove so far and that they would make it up to us by making sure we had a seat next time for sure. They really get an "F" for customer service, an "F" for racial sensitivity, and an "F" for friendliness and kindness and commonsense. In times like these, with the pandemic and racial tensions, management in fine dining establishment have to learn not to behave themselves so discriminatory and unprofessionally.
The Misfit is a Must Do!
Vacationing in Santa Monica, CA and came across this fabulous restaurant. It's a great place for a family dinner or with a group of friends. Fun modern atmosphere. Excellent food and excellent service. Flavorful California menu with exceptional gluten-free choices. We had the GF avacado toast and GF crispy chicken sandwich - delicious!!
Good vibe, GF and top food
We had a 30 min wait to be seated, but they used a txt app so we went for drinks elsewhere first (weird we weren’t invited into the bar). Good gluten free choices and both ours chose the burgers. Fries also GF, but the bowls were HUGE. We had ceviche and half a chicken on kale. Both v good. 4% kitchen tax added to bill BEFORE the service charge (effectively paying service on 104%). Watch this! Good service and lovely vibe in the bar/restaurant. We went with 2 adults and our 3 childre - 21, 16 & 14.
Rude server and “kitchen fee”?
We were quickly seated with no issues and our server Raheem greeted us. We ordered drinks and said we needed a minute to decide on a food order. He quickly returned with drinks and I ordered, Hummus to share and Pico Tacos and my husband ordered the pan roasted chicken. Our server said - well just so you know that will take about 20 minutes. I said - that’s fine just bring the hummus as an appetizer and then the rest together. He says to me “well that’s not how we do things here”. - I was in a little shock. I said - well no we want to eat our entrees together. He says - well your tacos will take like 3 minutes. - Still in shock I simply said; well if my tacos come out before his - I will simple send them back. Well then Raheem says “you don’t need to get an attitude with me”. And walked away. Both our jaws dropped. I never raised my voice or gave “attitude”. I did not realize asking to eat our entree together was such a problem. We did get the food - hummus first and I guess while this place “does not do it this way” - they found a way to serve the entrees together. The food was good - but the experience was ruined. Needless to say - we decided to go someplace else for more drinks and not spend 1 more penny or minute in the place. I was also surprised to see a 4% “kitchen fee” added to the bill. Really? A kitchen fee? Maybe this was for the special instructions or maybe it is for everyone. I did not see a “bartender” or “rent” fee on my bill - so who knows. Needless to say - I would never recommend this place to anyone.
Amazing Venue! So accommodating!
Fabulous dining experience! We took our 2 and 4 year olds with us and the entire staff was very accommodating and patient with us. They showed us the best place to park our stroller and even brought us water and our kids waters (with lids and straws) upon arrival. They also offered to put in the kids' food orders first so their food would come out sooner. Genius! Randy and Johnnie did a magnificent job of waiting on us. Randy was our server and Johnnie took the time to ensure we were well take care of too. The other staff members were also kind and friendly. The cocktails and food were delectable! The atmosphere is eclectic, chill and warm. We were beyond impressed and will most definitely be back! Thank you for such an amazing lunch!
Nice spot for a family meal
Enjoyed the upscale restaurant with family. Great food, attentive service. Pleasant experience overall.

It depends how far out in the future your reservation is. If you posted a reservation hat was 2 months out, it’s unlikely many people will view your reservation. It could also be that your reservation is just not desirable.
