Find a new place to stay!!!! 60 bucks to park, no option to self park at all... For breakfast they only serve 50 dollar breakfast buffet. IF you dont want that, too bad, we need to MAX our profits....on you!&*@#. If you want just an omelet, you cannot order it in the restaurant, only from room service, which includes 11 dollar service charge, 22.5 % staff charge + 3.5 % service fee . RIDICULOUS ..... The restaurant is waaaayyyy over priced and the food is average at best, it has been this way for years now. Finally just done...... We booked our stay, no mention of the pool being under construction or the main sitting area of the hotel, the bar all out of service. So the pool was packed and not enough area to sit...you cannot check in until 5pm as well. The location takes you away from everything, nice , until you realize how it cost for anything at the hotel. 1 coffee, i cappuccino and cinnamon bun 30 bucks and...it was a stale bun!!! It just never stops with disappointments.

I stayed here in May with three friends The criticism on trip advisor is spot on This place is not worth it. The service is inconsistent sometimes you get chocolate on your pillows other times you don't you might think this is a trite point it's not about the chocolate lol it's about bad management in a 5 star resort - and this extends into things like as I run a bath for myself I see there's little hairs in it pubic hairs near the toilet etc This hotel is 2-3 stars max The pool was closed in the morning They make you pay to use a locker and spa ???? Shame you when you've paid $1000 just ask for more and more money it's ridiculous They messed up my reservation I stayed 3 nights and I was supposed to have two beds I was staying with a friend from work so no we don't want to sleep in a bed together and we had booked a room with 2 beds So they gave me the world's worst sofa bed on springs...and told me I'd have to pay extra if I wanted to do a rollaway This is how a 2 star hotel would do it and I would be annoyed but accept it because it would be like a $100 hotel But a $1000 a night hotel???????? My bed was a SOFA. They treat the white guests here better I'm sorry but it's true. It's true. That's my experience and my observation! they did not treat me well. Now maybe if you're skiing immediately here then sure maybe it's worth it... expect a 3 star hotel though. I thought the ritz was a luxury brand but it's basically holiday inn, I'd rather stay there Whoever manages this place should be retrained or let go immediately A guy at the reception whose name starts with U (I won't embarsss him) is the one who did my horrible reservation ! Also my friend said it's not worth eating here the food was over priced and basically you get like a tiny taco for $80. I heard the salmon was good though. The on site gondala is very cool too. The pool was dirty is what my friend said once they did open it later in the day!

Just got to the hotel about five hours ago and may check out early. 80% of the hotel is under construction. No gym. One restaurant that I can eat at. No sundries or market. Almost $600 for a massage at the spa. This is not what you should be getting for these prices. I've stayed at Ritz Carlton's before and this is by far the worst experience. The 2 saving graces if you will...the grounds/views and the superb staff!
Be the first to ReplyThe bathtub is great.
I am in a regular room... not a suite or anything extra fancy... just a regular room and the bathtub is absolutely PERFECT. I am both tall and fat and this tub fit me perfectly. I could stretch out and be totally comfortable. The tub fixture is also really nice. The tub filled up really quickly. Even in fancy hotels, you don't see tub plumbing fixtures that fill the deep tubs up this quickly. Also, the bed is great. The mattress is one of those foam ones that is firm and holds you in place. I was just staying at another hotel last night that's in the same price range and it was so soft, I had a horrible night's sleep. I haven't even had a chance to do anything but take a bath and lay down and I am in HEAVEN. Also, the customer service is first class! 8/5 stars!

I've stayed at ritz Carlton's all throughout California and the service here is by far the worst. Devin who works in the front desk was completely rude and not helpful at all. We ended up cancelling our reservation after we checked in because the service was so horrible. Will never be back again.
Be the first to ReplyThe furniture is not kept even at the level of motel 8.
When asked staff about it , they blame it on weather and other excuses. So if it is like this, no one has cared to check or change for months. Is this the Ritz class nowadays?
Be the first to ReplyThe rooms were nice.
Small. The view we had was that of a roof where they control the gandola. Stepped on a nail sticking out of the carpet near the bed. Guy who checked us in was not very nice. For the money you pay mediocre service in the hotel. I would say the ski valet were very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful hotel, staff is very polite! The food was delicious . What I like the most is that the hotel is very convenient. It has all the amenities you need to skiing and also it is connected to a beautiful village with many things yo do for the kids and great restaurants for family. Also, Daniel Terrazas was helping us since the beginning with the reservation. We will come back next year.

Your staff has been so wonderful to us that I owe you all another review. My wife and I are continually blown away by the level of attentiveness and accommodation to our every preference whenever we stay here. Not only do they allow dogs, but they make our two boys feel as special as we do. Being able to finish a day on the slops by just unclipping from your bindings and letting the staff take it from there is true luxury. As is returning to your room to find the turn-down service complete so you can relax after a great day of skiing and snowboarding at Northstar. This is truly a perfect resort on a nearly perfect ski resort: Northstar. Special kudos and thank you goes to the following people: Ken: you are a gifted professional and deserve the success you have clearly earned. You turned a potential 2 start experience into a 5+ after that brief hiccup. Eric at Manzanita: Even though we prefer not to drink alcohol, we had a wonderful time eating dinner at the bar and chatting with you and Alexa. We are difficult customers to please and you succeeded on every front. Katie at the gym: You're awesome and the Ritz made a great decision hiring you. My dogs loved meeting you. Ned has always been a good judge of character, so he gave his paw stamp of approval. The staff at Cafe Blue: (I'm going to unintentionally screw up your names) Gonzalo, Sashi?, Iwoman? (sorry!) You went above and beyond in helping me find that one thing. I can't believe you found it and even found a way to get it to us at the last minute! Unbelievable. Most trips leave me eager to return home towards the end. But in this case, I am already eager to return back to the Tahoe Highlands Ritz. See you all again next year I hope, Nick.

Be the first to ReplyIf I could five this 0 stars I would.
The customer service at this place is quite possibly the worst I have ever received at any business. I spoke with Jamie Jensen about doing a room block for my wedding. Some of my guests had already booked rooms at the Ritz at this time and she assured me that they would have 6 weeks to cancel and book a new room under the rom block. She emailed with rates and I emailed back that day saying we would like to sign a contract with them for the room block. She then proceeded to ghost me for a whole month and did not respond to 3 separate emails asking or any phone calls. I finally called the Ritz to find someone that could get the room block ready for me and it took me on hold for 45 minutes and demanding that I speak with someone that day for anyone to get on the phone with me because "no one was around that could help me." Finally the Reservations Supervisor David Lenosky got on the phone with me and assured me that they would take care of the issue. David then told me that Jamie provided me with the wrong information and my guests only had 7 DAYS TO CANCEL, NOT 6 WEEKS. He said they would allow my guests to cancel based on Jamie's representations. David emailed me immediately and I sent him the email chain with Jamie Jensen. The next day Jamie Jensen emails me some excuse why my emails didn't reach her inbox and then provides me the contract for the room block with the wrong dates-- twice after I sent her exactly what to put. Finally she sent me a correct contact and I told her I would like to sign it. She then proceeded to not respond to any emails again, despite multiple emails asking her to send the contract and CCing David. No one responds to emails at this place at all!!! I then called the Ritz only to get put on hold for 20 minutes and then the first operator transferred me to Marriott Bonvoy who could do nothing for me. I then sat on hold for another 15 minutes for another operator to tell me that there was no one at the Ritz that could help me with my issue and that I would have to call back during business hours the next day. When I explained to them that I could not call back during business hours doing my job, I was placed on hold for another 20 minutes for them to find someone that they said would call me tomorrow after business hours. This place is a joke for any hotel-- especially a luxury one. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BOOK THE HYATT INCLINE VILLAGE INSTEAD. They responded to my emails within the hour, got me my room block and my contract all together in less than a week and somehow came up with rooms for my guests even when a corporation did a complete buyout of the hotel for my wedding weekend. I have had my save-the-dates printed and addressed for over a month now and have not been able to send out because I did not want to send them out until my room block information with the Ritz was available to be on my website. THIS PLACE IS A MESS!!

Meh... at best- not what I expect at all at the Ritz- years of coming and service was poor...... drinks weren't great...... not good time.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful property and some good amenities.
The staff was wonderful, overall. Our room was clean and had a great view. We were lucky to get some snow mid week, and that really made our time in Tahoe special. We loved that the Ritz did s'mores every night -- the kids (and adults) had the best time with those. The decor was festive and the grounds nicely maintained. The kids were so impressed by the gondola. The slopes were steps away, and so convenient. I appreciated the way folks treated the kids and went out of their way to make them feel welcome -- one day we decorated gingerbread houses and my 3 year old LOVED it. We were given special plates and cups and lots of colors for the kids most times we went out for anything. I've removed two stars because we didn't love the food at the Ritz Carlton. Service was oddly slow at all restaurants even though there weren't many guests, and the hotel was vastly overstaffed with many of them simply standing around. The quality of food in the Living Room, room service, and Cafe Blue was all quite low. The price of the meals was staggering based on the level of enjoyment we experienced. The only restaurant in the Ritz worth eating was at Manzanita -- which wasn't sustainable to do for 5 days on the same menu or for the price. I am a cheese lover but every meal was so globbed in cheese that it made my stomach hurt. One afternoon we had lunch in the Living Room and our waiter, Max, took 15 mins to bring a high chair for the baby, and while he was helping 2-3 other guests, he told us "if you need something, wave me down, otherwise I will try to do my best to come check on you." He brought my husband a 3/4 full beer (which we sent back) and my daughter an ice cold cheeseburger (which we didn't send back but left untouched). Our bill for this meal was about $150. This was our only negative interaction with the staff; everyone else was more than accommodating. But Max really inspired us to drive 20 mins (one way) into town to eat elsewhere from then on. No convenience is worth a $12 cup of stale coffee. We ventured down the hill to Northstar several times on the gondola, but being early season, there wasn't much open. We were given a list of restaurants at Northstar Village upon checkin at the Ritz, but the list was out of date and many of the dining options were permanently or seasonally closed. There was mostly pizza and burgers everywhere we looked (including Manzanita). The salads had a ton of bread and cheese on them, and the lettuce was wilted. We ended up going into Truckee to grab healthier, fresher, tastier options, and that was fine. Unrelated to food, we had to deal with some loud construction on our floor, as they started to build the club room. The men working seemed put out when we walked to and from our room. No one mentioned this at check in, which would've been appreciated. We also requested our free room upgrade if available (and believe me, it was available -- there were times when I wondered if we were the only guests there), and were denied. We'd also called ahead to have a crib in our room ready to go and it wasn't there upon arrival. It took a couple of hours to get it delivered. Lastly, one day the gondola was closed due to wind conditions, and we had ski school in Northstar Village. Three staff told me there was a shuttle to take us down, but none ever came (I waited in the cold with the kids for 35 mins). I mentioned this to the front desk staff as I picked up my car to drive down and park for $25, and he just blinked at me...for a $60 per night valet fee, please get the shuttle running. It wasn't a typical 5 star hotel experience and the room itself was just...fine. Otherwise, we had a wonderful trip. 7/10 would stay again for convenience to slopes and cleanliness (but would definitely eat elsewhere).

Outstanding Guest Relations and Services! My husband and I visited the hotel to celebrate our anniversary. Upon entering our room, we were very happily surprised by the beautiful decoration (with red rose petals), a sweets bowl, and a warm note from Shruti from Guest Relations. This is the best and most unforgettable anniversary surprise I have ever received! My trip was fantastic and my experience at the Ritz Carlton is outstanding, sweet and perfect! I definitely look forward to visiting the hotel again in the future. Thank Shruti again for making my anniversary celebration so beautiful and unforgettable! I've told my friends about this experience and they were all very impressed.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorites and my go to when visiting Tahoe.
Literally everything about this resort is a 10. The rooms are very well appointed and all have nice views. The bedding is really high quality and the beds are very comfy. The bathrooms are also large and towels and soaps are good quality too. Room service is always amazing and we usually take advantage of the club room benefit and that makes for an even more special stay. I've stayed at this hotel so many times and absolutely love everything about it. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible.
We used to come here all the time but now the Living Room is overrun but non hotel guests so there is no where to sit or eat even after paying a premium to stay at the hotel. The menu is also really limited now and prices are atrocious. $23 for kids mac and cheese!

The hotel rooms were very nice as you would expect from a Ritz Carlton--not overly grand but nice. The only reason I give it even 1 star is the location. The breakfast buffet was very good but the service was lacking--perhaps another "staff shortage" issue faced by the service industry? But when paying Ritz prices one would expect more. After spending over 5K for the room and another 1K on incidentals PLUS $55.00/day resort I was not even allowed to use the spa hot tub--even though my husband had paid for a Spa service- and I had tried to book a massage but they had no time convenient for me-When asked why the resort fee didnt cover the spa the manager told me there were "resort services" I was allowed to use --she even pointed out that I was "allowed" to use the retail store at no charge--EVEN though you do not have to be a guest to go and use the retail store--what a ridiculous statementWe had wanted to check out one day sooner than originally planned (we had pre-paid our stay) and when we asked the manager she said that if we had booked directly with them they would be able to do something but we could try the 3rd party booking agent. We then contacted Amex (who we booked through) and Amex said they did not have a problem amending the reservation if the hotel would allow it--so Amex contacted the hotel but was told that they would not refund an early departure ----so I went back to the manager, since she said if the 3rd party was amenable they would be--another manager, Sara Taylor, specifically told me that only Amex could alter the reservation and that is "in their terms and conditions"--so went back to Amex and after 45 minutes of Amex trying to get the early departure refund--was told that the Ritz would not allow it. I spoke to Sara Taylor and told her that if she would just have said the hotel was not willing to refund the early departure I would have not wasted anymore time on it--but she clearly indicated that it was up to Amex--which it was not. She only had to own up to a policy that was in place knowing that I may not like it--I would much rather have had an honest statement instead of a run around. I will never stay at this hotel again --and will probably never stay at a Ritz again.

Ok. They are soo lying. They are not in Lake Tahoe. Or on Lake Tahoe. You cannot see the lake from the hotel, or even walk to it. They are in Truckee, which I would argue is more awesome-er, but whatever. It's the Ritz Carlton, are you familiar? It's super fancy and really nice. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that it's $50 to valet park. It's all really expensive but it's also really nice. If you're kids are taking ski lessons at North star. The Ritz is right where the bunny hill is where they learn. Which means, they can ski, and you can sit your ass by a fireplace and drank. The hotel is gorgeous. There's these big fireplaces in the lobby and you can sit around and have hot toddies or wine and french fries. The food is OK. They're not doing anything creative or inventive but it's solid. The hotel is at Northstar, which is the most premium ski resort on the West Coast. It's like a fancy ass snow, Disneyland. It's nice. I mean real, rich folk nice. If you are OK with the sticker-price, then you'll love the hotel and all the restaurants. They also have this amazing professor that comes out from UNR in the winter and in the summer and brings has really expensive telescopes and you can look at the stars. He's amazing and it's really cool that they offer that. They have s'mores by the outdoor fire pits and sometimes I even see people swimming in the winter cause the pool is so heated. It's gorgeous. I'm just salty that everything costs so much!!

When money is no object and you want to stay at the best location in Northstar. Everything is top notch except the rooms are nice but you're paying a premium for the premium ski in/out location higher up on the mountain so they aren't the best value even in the context of staying at a Ritz.Great food but of course very pricey. $30+ for a hamburger. It's the Ritz. What can you say. Even with all considered I can't give it 5 stars as it's still a bit overpriced even considering the location and amenities. Nice outdoor area with large pool, firepits, and areas for kids to play in the snow. Ski valet service. Full (very pricey) spa with jacuzzi, steam room and cold dunk shower. It's hard to use the phrase "you get what you pay for" here given the rooms are nice but not spectacular and food is over the top pricey. But if money is virtually no object and you want Luxury Ski Resort Accomodations, this is it.
Be the first to ReplyThe BBQ on the deck was awful!!!Completely overpriced.
..$30 for a brisket sando (brisket on a stale bun with watery slaw and two pickles). This used to be a hidden gem for lunch when skiing Northstar but that is clearly no longer the case. Save your money and eat elsewhere on the mountain...I promise you can't do any worse than the overpriced "BBQ" the Ritz is trying to pass off.
Be the first to ReplyI used to enjoy lunch at the Manzanita, but that is now
I used to enjoy lunch at the Manzanita, but that is now closed several days a week at lunch. The reason given was low occupancy at the hotel. Not surprising given the cost of the rooms. Anyway, since we couldn't eat at the Manzanita, my group had lunch in the Living Room. We were sorely disappointed. While the service was quite good, the food was sub par. One of us ordered the chicken sandwich. The chicken looked like it was a frozen pre-coated frozen patty cooked in old oil. The rest of the meal was edible but definitely not even as good as I could get in the lodges. I suspect there has been a change in the cooking staff.
