Fact finding trip
Lovely welcoming hotel….. our room was very clean and comfortable, overlooking the courtyard… quiet with lovely balcony…. Yes the furnishings are older but still spotless …. Beds were very comfortable….. staff were great….. very helpful too….. we relocated there from the horror that is the best western so hadn’t booked in advance. Breakfast was very nice plenty of choice and space. Restaurant and bar are really good. Sushi’s was delicious! Car park was a bonus! We will stay again when we come over again! Thank you Sefton!

We stayed here just for 1 night recently and it was absolutely lovely. The staff are really friendly and approachable. Due to scaffolding being at the front of the building, we were offered a room overlooking the atrium as an alternative to the one we had booked originally. The hotel was clean. The room was large with a huge bed. It had a balcony overlooking the atrium. There was a nice bathroom, hairdryer, a safe, iron and ironing board plus tea and coffee facilities in the room and a small fridge. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Absolutely no complaints from my husband and I and 10/10 for the staff. Well done.
Be the first to ReplyAwful! Avoid! 1* not 4*
Absolutely awful hotel! Filthy, run down and smelly! We booked this hotel as was rated 4*, I don't even think it qualifies for 1*! Room was dirty, broken and badly worn furnishings. No external windows, so no fresh air, no aircon in room, must be unbearable in the summer! Vent in bathroom must be linked to the restaurant below as the bathroom smell was very unpleasant the whole time! Swimming pool area dirty and run down, ladies changing room closed, so mens was used as a communal changing room! No lock! Freezing cold! Christmas decorations were an absolute joke! They should be ashamed hanging such tatty decorations up! When we complained they came up with the excuse they were just about to start refurbishment, didn't make us feel any better when our stay was ruined! They didn't offer a refund, just a discount, no idea how much, but who would want to go back to stay at this establishment?! Avoid!

I booked a sea view room but due to scaffolding being errected, the hotel called me and asked if I minded staying in an Atrium room. I'm glad I did. I loved the balcony and having a drink on it, over looking the atrium from the 3rd floor, While there is no outside view, apart from the atrium roof, the rooms are lovely. Great breakfast. Absolutely amazing staff. Great bar in Sir Norman's. The Sefton is our hotel of choice whenever we visit the IOM each January
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Sorry guys but booked a room for NYE and it was awful. The only saving grace was Bonsai which was as always excellent. Grubby room (with sea view) with filthy carpets and which clearly hadn’t been re-painted for many years years. No hot water. Rubbish unusable wifi and a tiny TV straight out of 1999 with no satellite or anything else. Apart from Brett who is an asset to you the rest of the staff were scruffy and disinterested. Would have stayed for breakfast but honestly didn’t want to spend another half an hour in there. This hotel desperately needs investment and is just a sad experience straight out of 1999.
Be the first to ReplyNeeds a lot of work
Ummmm…. Firstly the location is great, on the sea front, the front exterior looks really nice, breakfast Is good and the beds are good but that’s where the positives end. The hotel is very very tired and run down. Carpets are threadbare on the stairs. My room was not very nice apart from the bed. Smallest shower I’ve seen in a long time with a curtain so it’s constantly clinging onto you as you shower. The drains in the bathroom smelt bad, especially notice it in the mornings before I had time to climatise to it. The TV is ancient and picture is poor, don’t know even where to begin with the sofa, best you just look at the photo and make your own mind up. Parking is abit of a pain unless you have change, otherwise each day you have to park, go to reception - maybe wait 10mins for people to checkin if miss times and then pay. Take the slip back to your car to put in the window before being able to go to your room. I had a room with a balcony internally looking out in to an Atrium. Which is quirky and nice to start with. However they do use the Atrium for functions without letting you know so can be really noisy with a DJ or bands playing. Was ok for me, but might not be everyone’s thing, especially if you need you sleep or need to get on with some work. I stay in a lot of hotels every year due to the nature of my work and stayed in Douglas several times and I must say this is the worst I’ve stayed on for a while. For me this wasn’t a good experience and wouldn’t stay again.

Had a one night stay in The Sefton in a Double Atrium room. The hotel is obviously old but, for the price we paid the room was spacious and clean and looked lovely over looking the water garden at night. Staff friendly and helpful and recommended a few sightseeing things for us to do. It was our Wedding Anniversary and the hotel kindly left us some complimentary goodies in the room which was a lovely touch. The breakfast was very good we had freshly cooked Manx Kippers & a buffet breakfast. Again staff friendly and helpful. Thanks for a lovely stay and if we are in the IOM would definitely stay again. Also would recommend Bonzai the restaurant in the hotel. Great food and an extensive selection of non-alcohlic drinks.
Be the first to ReplyCheck your Terms of Booking with the Sefton Hotel
We were unable to get the IOM due to understandable ferry cancellations as a result of bad weather. We called reception on the day of the cancellation to advise that we would not be arriving on that day. The person taking the call was helpful and professional. We booked the trip through Visit IOM as we always like to support local companies in the area who have local knowledge. We advised Visit IOM of the issues and asked if they could liaise with the hotel to change the dates so that we could come again. Despite numerous calls and emails to Visit IOM, the Sefton Hotel have refused to change the dates or refund the money and advised we should claim off our travel insurance. We are very upset by the situation which, regardless of the 'terms of business' between Visit IOM and the hotel, seems entirely unreasonable. Cancelled ferries to Douglas are not an exceptional circumstance. My tips and recommendations for booking with this hotel are: check their refund policy if your ferry is cancelled, before you book.
Be the first to ReplyTraditional beachside hotel with comfortable rooms and helpful staff
A beautiful old hotel with an awe inspiring atrium flooded with sunlight and full of large green plants and ferns. Our balcony overlooked this tranquil area which was a blessing at times but also annoying when people sat outside our balcony laughing and talking before breakfast. I am not a morning person! The main restaurant was closed for the whole two weeks we stayed, as was the spa. There was only a restaurant serving Asian cuisine, not really my taste unfortunately. Breakfast was amazing and had lots of options and generous portions. The heated pool was small in size but a tranquil space. Staff were friendly and helpful but I do think they should have informed us before we arrived that their amenities were not as advertised and why we chose to stay there. The bed was really comfortable, very clean bedding and rooms, fab shower and bathroom and a large bedroom with chairs and a table, a nice downstairs bar with comfy seating and a fabulous sea view. I was using an electric wheelchair and could access everywhere except the pool on my wheels.

A party of 50 from a rambling club went to the Sefton. We all had a lovely time. The rooms were spacious & all had balconies onto the atrium. The food was excellent & plentiful & the start were friendly & helpful.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful Hotel in a Perfect Location
The hotel is very central to everything, and the staff very helpful and friendly. We had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the atrium which was kept very clean. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice. Although there is a Pan Asian restaurant attached to the hotel. The hotel does not serve evening meals which would have been handy on a couple of the nights when the weather was particularly bad. Instead we had to get ready and find a restaurant in the town to eat which wasn't to bad as town was very close by. Hence the 4 stars and not 5. We would definitely stay at the Sefton Hotel again.

Be the first to ReplyGreat hotel. Fantastic staff. Really good location.
My wife, me and my younger daughter stayed at the Sefton for one night at the end of January. Both rooms were a fantastic price. We used to live on the island so know the hotels there. I do like the parking at The Sefton, but it can be hard to get a space as spaces are limited. The room was large and clean. Breakfast was great. I didn't get an upgraded room as we really only used it to sleep as we were out and about both days. I will stay at The Sefton again
Be the first to ReplyShort Break
Brought the wife for a short break as she had never been to the Isle of Man before. Booked the hotel through the ferry company as a package. £590 for ferry and three nights B &B, so not particularly cheap. Ferry crossing fine. Hotel was ok nice room with sea view, clean and tidy, pool bit small but ok, breakfast excellent and most staff very helpfully. The hotel has two restaurants we only tried one The Encore, ok but rather overpriced, we ate out the other evenings as there is plenty of choice in Douglas.

Very nice room, we had an atrium room with a balcony which was very pleasant! Beds were comfy. Shower was a little small for me but it was nice to have a sep bat. We didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that. We always managed to get a spot in the car park but the spaces are limited! Would definitely stay again.

Warm welcome, comfy room and lovely breakfast. Staff were all friendly, room was clean, easy to find and with parking, underground in a safe and secure site. Perfect location for my base. The weather was cold , but the atmosphere was warm and cosy.
Be the first to ReplyA very pleasant stay
We stayed for four days in an atrium room which was clean, very spacious and warm. There was lots of cupboard and drawer space for clothes. The furniture in the room was very comfortable and it was very pleasant to be able to sit on the balcony in November looking out onto the atrium with a cup of tea or in the room on the sofa watching TV. The manager and staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent. There was always a good selection of traditional British food as well as continental. The fried eggs were always perfect. The location was great for us as my wife can't walk far and the main shopping street is only yards away, as are several bars and restaurants. The Manx museum is only a short stroll away too. We used the swimming pool once and had it to ourselves for a couple of hours. It was very pleasant. A maximum of six are allowed, but there were only two of us. The wifi was faulty in our room but the manager moved us to another room where it was fine. It was no trouble really. We had a bit of uncertainty over the availability of car parking but it was only very busy in the car park on Saturday. All in all a very pleasant stay.

So in a good location but I was in an atrium room, so there was no natural light and the room was very dated. The furniture is grubby and there is little to make this room feel comfortable So the atrium rooms are very depressing and if I was using this for a holiday I would have been very upset
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Mid Range Hotel.
Just finished our four night stay. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of cereals, fruit etc and an excellent hot buffet breakfast menu. We stayed in an Atrium room and they were huge, especially with the balcony. All the staff we spoke to were excellent, in fact one of our party had a little issue using the shower and five minutes after calling reception a lady came and sorted it out. Pan Asian restaurant on site is very nice and reasonable, the on site pub, Sir Norman’s wasn’t anything special. These are both independent from the hotel. Just a pity the hotel doesn’t have a little on site cafe or snack bar, even vending machines on each floor could be useful. Small car park (£4 for 24 hours) but plenty of roadside parking, especially for blue badge holders if you time it right between 6pm and 10am. In an excellent position facing the beach and one minute’s walk from the start of the main shopping street. We came here based on a recommendation and will be passing on our recommendation too to anyone coming to the Isle Of Man. Thanks for a great stay.
