Super evening meal
Popped in Sunday night on the off chance of a table! Lucky there was a table available. Very friendly and helpful staff, great tasty food. Good beer and wine. I had the venison absolutely great and June had the chicken, super. To finish sticky toffee pudding. Great food and lovely atmosphere

Warm welcome upon arrival . Steep stairs ( not for anyone with problems climbing stairs) to a delightful light airy room. Walk in shower with lots of bathroom goodies and dressing gowns . Room has a small fridge with fresh milk . Well decorated and good bed . Nice touches fan ,coffee machine and 2 bottles of water in fridge with Kit Kats and brownies. Down and a walk around a pretty village . Back for a sumptuous dinner at 7. 1 sardine starter and a roasted pepper soup both were excellent. On to mains 1 beef with a delightful potato combo with broccoli spears ,the veggie option was veg and lentil spag bol . Now I am not known for my gushing reviews this however is the exception. Both were beyond reproach and both plates were cleared . Shared a dessert which was also very pleasant. £73 with no wine but 2 beers and a large soft drink . Not often I say good value but it was. However what was probably the 5 star determining thing was breakfast . Full English was very good local bacon ,sausage as it should be , beans tasty and lovely local free range eggs. Plenty of bread for both breakfast itself and marmalade after. The vegetarian breakfast was outstanding, now wether we were lucky enough to be served and have our meals prepared by the owner I don't know . The veggie breakfast was well thought out , potatoes, courgettes, avocado a proper feast . Nice interaction with owner topped of a lovely stay . We will be back when down that way again. Highly recommended and eat there too if your close but book .
Be the first to ReplyShort stay but excellent all round
My father, brother and I had booked all three rooms for a one night stay before a funeral at Bampton Church opposite. The rooms were all lovely, very spacious for a "pub", comfortable beds, super toiletries and spotlessly clean. Unfortunately my (very elderly) father was not feeling too well when we arrived in Bampton but the staff were so welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us make him comfortable, before ensuring that my brother and I were able to enjoy our dinner together downstairs. Ditto breakfast the next morning. The food was freshly prepared and excellent; an imaginative mixed menu to choose from. We are looking forward to visiting again in the near future.

Excellent overnight stay on route 3 of the national cycle network. We had cycled from Barnstaple over Exmoor. Very friendly staff, excellent food and fabulous breakfast. Bikes were stored undercover on the Veranda. Made to feel very welcome. KitKat and chocolate brownie in the room fridge was a really nice touch.

I love both The Swan and the sister restaurant Spelt in Bampton. We moved here about 10 months ago , initially during lock down and can’t believe what a fantastic job they do. It’s a privilege to have such businesses on your doorstep. During Covid they were set up for takeaway and did a sterling job feeding everyone with the highest quality takeaway you could imagine. Since re opening they have taken safety and security if customers really seriously. The food is a super quality and the team are wonderful. The wine list is excellent and they are always happy to give you tasters and offer you things to try. Genuinely 5 star ⭐️

We stayed just the one night, attending a wedding nearby. We very much enjoyed our stay - what a lovely hotel with lots of little extras: goodies in the mini-fridge, tissues, cotton balls etc, and a real coffee machine! And the owners were so flexible - check-in time is normally 3pm, but because we had to be at the wedding by 1:30, a half hour's drive away, they ensured our rooms were ready for us when we arrived at 12:30! We arrived back from the wedding very late - no problem, and we even had a nice lie-in next morning, with breakfast for us delayed until gone 10am.
The breakfast was delicious, and the whole stay was very good value for money.
Fantastic pub and hotel with gastronomic delights
I stayed at the Swan for a couple of nights while I explored the area. Paul, Donna and their team have created outstanding locally sourced dishes for lunch and evening menus. He was also my personal breakfast chef! The pub has retained its traditional style and was busy every lunch and evening I was there. It’s a popular place and deservedly so - you will need to book.
The rooms above the pub are delightfully furnished, quiet and comfortable. The bathrooms have been completely renovated and offer high-end Grohe fittings and luxury amenities. The room also has a mini fridge which contains milk and other items. Bampton is a small village, ideally located in a fabulous area of natural beauty. There is a large carpark directly adjacent to the hotel. It’s a place I’m sure to return to now that the restrictions have been lifted.
Great Break
Just returned from a wonderful break the hotel was welcoming, the rooms were cosy and clean plenty of tea, coffee and fresh milk.
We had 2 super breakfasts and the evening meals were exceptional the best we’ve had for a long time.A big thank you to Paul and all the team for such good service.
Delicious dinner
A rare evening out with my daughter and where better to eat than the Swan? The Covid restrictions don’t detract from first class food and service, our meals were delicious. The plaice was cooked perfectly and chicken Kiev was just right. The ginger sticky pudding that we shared was simply divine! Well done to Paul, Donna and team, we are lucky to have you in Bampton.

Fantastic room, attention to detail is everything. Fresh milk for tea & coffee! Breakfast, not had better anywhere. Ate here for evening meal one night and the other at Spelt, their restaurant down the road, both highly recommended, only difficulty was choosing what to have with such quality choices. Already planning when we can go again. Thank you Paul & Donna, perfect hosts. Staff all friendly and welcoming, great atmosphere. Mr Potts loved it. 🤣.
Be the first to ReplyDinner with a blowtorch and steak ???
Had dinner here with my vegetarian & dairy free partner which the staff coped with in their stride.
I, on the other hand, had a steak and cheesecake desert both of which were brilliant. Beer was also good with a nice selection and the service was great. It’s amazing what it’s possible to produce from a kitchen the size of a small shed that also appeared to be full of people.
We visited in January on a Sunday evening and all the tables were full. I imagine in the holiday season you would need to book but it’s well worth the effort.
Staff were great but watch out for the waitress with the blow torch in her hand, she claimed it had something to do with lighting the fire but I’d not start an argument with her !! :-)
40th Birthday
Myself and partner was staying in Bampton for my birthday and was recommended tobvisit here for food.
We had amazing food, great selection of gins 😀
and the atmosphere was relaxing and all staff made us very welcome when we called in for a drink at the end of our day.
Keep up the great work we will be back.
Good quality, characterful setting
We throughly enjoyed our one-night stay at The Swan.
Our room was finished to a high spec' and full of character, complete with sloping floor! High quality snacks and drinks were provided in the room (some at a charge) and the en suite bathroom was clean and of good quality.
The bar in the pub below was lively (Saturday night) with some decent real ales and we enjoyed a good meal using locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast was of very qood standard including a selection of fruits and lovely fruit juices and a generous portion of freshly cooked food.
The landlord was friendly, chatting with guests over breakfast.
Although the weather was poor, our drive onto nearby Exmoor produced several sightings of Red Deer.
