The Tampa EDITION Reviews from The Last Year
Memorable Vacation
Wogick 1 review Vacation | Family My husband and I recently spent five nights at The Current Hotel Autograph Collection in Tampa, Florida. Upon our arrival, we were immediately impressed with the beauty of the hotel. Patrick, the front desk Manager welcomed us warmly and made us feel at ease and was able to procure a room with a view for us. Ami, Director of Operations, made sure our stay was unforgettable. Ashley and Allison, from Sales, also welcomed us and greeted us on several occasions during our stay and were always polite, courteous and helpful. Pacita was more than happy to do a group photo of us. Our servers while dining at Julian’s on several occasions included Patrick, Tatiana, Sandra and Stephen. They were professional, courteous and well trained in serving the delicious dishes prepared by Restaurant Supervisor John. Beatrix, the Restaurant Manager, welcomed us and seated us one morning and was truly delightful. Lastly, Alec Petitpas, a member of the kitchen staff, was the creator of the most beautiful charcuterie board that was delivered to our room. Every staff member that we encountered was extremely helpful and courteous. Our room was immaculate and we look forward to a return visit.
Lots of Glitter but Lacking Substance
Room type: Deluxe 1 Bedroom King Suite THE GOOD: Room: -Sunny, spacious, lots of storage for clothing and luggage. -Great bathroom amenities. Beautiful shower and soaking tub. -Electronic safe in room. -Everything super clean. -Separate climate controls for living room and bedroom. -Mostly hardwood flooring; rugs near bed and in the living room. -Numerous electronic light controls at entry way and near the bed. Front desk: -Generally efficient and attentive. Fitness Facilities: -Very clean and well equipped-treadmills, weights, etc. -Access to outside terrace- nice touch. Housekeeping: -Perfect and consistent. Turndown service provided. Pool attendants (not food and beverage): -Generally good but depends on personality of attendant. Dining: -The Market breakfast is great. We had a great server from NJ who was excellent. THE BAD: Room: -Refrigerator: packed with alcohol (mini-bar). We had to move items out of the fridge to store our own items. Be careful here. They ended up charging us for mini bar items we never used. It was a bit inconvenient to have the charges removed from our bill, after we got home. -Low-end Nespresso machine in room. Not fitting for a 5-star hotel. -Faulty light switch in bathroom. No light in the bathroom unless all lights in the suite were activated. Engineering fixed it and wrote a nice note, but it took two attempts on two separate days. Front Desk: -We were told that we would receive a text when our room was ready. Never happened. Hotel Staff: -I asked for ice on various occasions. As an adult, I don’t need to be told how to grab a bag of ice from various staff members. Found this condescending. -Unfriendly staff, which may sometimes be interpreted as “I’m better than you”. The Pool: -Haven for wannabe influencers. Had to avoid being filmed, picture taken on various occasions. -Food: lackluster. Inconsistent service. Gluten-free option ordered, but other parts of the meal were modified without my permission. Second day, same gluten-free option ordered and was served a regular bun. -Music during the day too loud for my liking. Food & Dining: -The Market: Service inconsistent. Salt and pepper grinders broken. Glass dirty. Fitness Facilities: -Treadmills very wobbly and not level. Who installed these, and why were they not checked? -Loud club music playing in gym during early hours. Not my preference. Final Verdict: The Edition Tampa falls short as a 5-start hotel and instead gives a solid performance at a 4-star level. It’s a beautiful property nestled in the convenience of downtown Tampa but all that glitters is not gold here. Yes, it’s nice to look at but it’s swarming with wannabe influencers and annoying people who want to be seen. I would say this property takes more of a “Las-Vegas luxury” approach and needs to improve to really own a 5-star rating.
Big let down. 6-star prices, Spring Break vibes.
My husband and I were very excited to check-in to the relatively new Ian Schrager property last night. We’re staying for 3 nights — nice getaway from kids. We travel regularly to Tampa to see extended family and this is, by far, the nicest offering in Tampa. As a couple, we travel a ton and usually stay at the Four Seasons, St. Regis, etc. We love The Edition in West Hollywood. We arrived on a Saturday night at 10pm to check-in. We pulled up to the valet and felt like we were landing in the middle of Floribama Shore Spring Break. The scene at the valet is chaos. The valets were perfectly nice but distracted, and very focused on the stream of people lingering around the outside of the hotel. We gave our car to the valet and brought our bags into the lobby. The lobby was total chaos. There were two police officers guarding the hotel, yet it seemed that pretty much anyone could come in and out. We weren’t directed to the reception and it took a while to find it because the lobby was packed with people taking pictures on the gorgeous stairwell inside the lobby. I can only describe the crowd as young, nightclub vibe. 99% aren’t staying at the hotel, and it was not quite the “exclusive” vibe I would have hoped for at a hotel at this price point. Note: we were paying $600/night for a standard king room. *In Tampa*. This isn’t NY/Miami/LA, it’s Tampa. When we eventually found the unassuming front desk, we waited. One person at the front desk, and she was fielding several questions from folks not staying at the hotel. Check-in was easy. We asked for an upgrade and were told that the hotel is fully committed. A total lie, as there were plenty of suites online and our Amex Centurion rep said plenty of inventory. But whatever. Rooms are fine. Small. Well-appointed. Nothing really “wow” and definitely not worth $600/night. We went up to the rooftop bar for a drink. This is where it all sort of went downhill. Again, I can only say MTV Spring Break. Pool was packed. Hard to get a drink. Wound up trying to go to the inside bar and the bouncer rudely pointed us away. I explained we were hotel guests and he stepped aside without saying a word. Not friendly at all. The inside bar had 2 bartenders. We ordered 2 $25 poorly made cocktails and wound up staying for 20 mins. Lots of people in the bar who were there for a wedding. Most not staying in hotel. Overall, the look and fixtures of the hotel are what you’d expect from Ian Schrager. The service is just ok. The clientele don’t appear to be hotel guests and it has a very chaotic, Spring Break feel. Not a 5-star experience and not value for money.
Underwhelming boutique hotel in Tampa desperate to be a hip
Underwhelming boutique hotel in Tampa desperate to be a hip Miami Beach location. Take it from me, it is NOT! Over-priced, a very rude, indifferent staff and overall negative vibe. Employees all wear white uniforms and look like creepy cult members. Restaurant, Lilac, is all hype. Supposedly Michelin rated but mainly just expensive and you are still hungry when you leave. The Edition is oddly set up, entrance to the hotel is a nightmare. Save your money and stay at one of the many other, nicer properties downtown Tampa has to offer! The Edition is a SUBTRACTION!
Very beautiful overall.
That including interior decoration and bathrooms. Went to the cafe within the lobby area (turn right when you enter) and got a Coffee, Matcha, and a sweet Cinnabon. Matcha isn't sweet FYI, but that's okay because that's how typical matcha is. Coffee was good and Cinnabon was pretty good too, the lady was also nice enough to plate it nicely for my girlfriend to take a picture. The cafe workers overall were very kind people so definitely give them a raise. What made it 3 stars was the older people who are at the front disk who didn't really welcome us because I guess we looked out of place compared to the treatment they gave to 2 older men who looked more put together in suits. Overall nice lobby and cafe area. Wouldn't come again unless I wanted to take some pictures but that's really it.
Great for Amalie Arena attendance
Great for a quick night and attending a game or concert (like Madonna!) Pros: -two minutes from the Arena, bright and clean with friendly staff. The coffee shop in the morning was great. Cons: - stayed on floor 6 noise was an issue if you are concerned about that, hall noise, city noise etc. so bring a noise machine or ear plugs and you’re good. Be aware that it’s Valet only if that is a concern.
Not for us
Myself, my husband and our 10 year old daughter stayed at The Edition Tampa 1 night, a Sunday, in late March. My husband had an early flight Monday morning so we had a quick little family getaway before he left in Tampa. I really wanted to like this hotel since it was nice to see a five star hotel in Tampa. There are pros, as noted below, but the cons far outweigh the pros for my family and our expectations and we will not return to this location. Pros: hotel was very clean, dinner room-service was great, quiet in our room, all the staff we encountered were super kind and helpful, great location Cons: I left air pods and a wireless charger accidentally in the room at check out and it was stolen (my bad, but still was a shock for a five star hotel that they weren’t turned in), pool was much smaller than it looked in pictures and was packed all day, pool was also not a place I’d be comfortable to be with my 10 year old daughter, breakfast at the restaurant was not great, lobby seemed like a hang-out for people who were not staying at the hotel, valet team seemed like nice young guys, but lacked the professionalism I usually see at other five star hotels, valet took about 30 minutes to get my car and it was not a busy time.
Great stay - we’ll be back
I had hesitated staying here because of the mixed reviews but I am so happy we decided to make the Edition our home for five nights. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms well laid out, spacious and well decorated. We ate at The Market and Azure and both were great. Service isn’t consistently 5-star but we had standouts - David at the pool, Vinnie at concierge, Bailey at the Market. It’s louder than some hotels but lively! The rooms were quiet. We loved it and will be back!
Finally got to check out the Edition for drinks! So many
Finally got to check out the Edition for drinks! So many parts of this hotel are just stunning. We had a round of drinks at 3 of the different bars and really enjoyed all the different drinks. The hotel had a fun atmosphere and the staff were very kind. Some small improvements and more attention to detail would easily make this place 5 stars for me.
Disappointing
Had mediocre drinks at the hotel lobby bar. Bartenders were snobbish and arrogant. If you are looking for a friendly bar to have a few drinks with family, I would highly recommend you walk across the street to one of the restaurants on Water Street that appreciate their customers. As a repeat client of The Edition that was willing to pay for overpriced rooms, food and drinks, I highly doubt I will be back. Read all the reviews before making any plans at this ungracious and impolite establishment. They are in severe need of new management
Look elsewhere if arriving over the weekend
As others have noted this is NOT a 5 star arrival if you arrive late on a Friday night as it is a night club atmosphere which I was not expecting and almost impossible to valet the car and then work your way around the rope line to be ushered into... a completely packed lobby without an easy path to the check in. Then to stand in line with your luggage while inebriated guests circle around you and you watch as people in front of you hand $100 bills to the check in people to get "service". It was horrendous and I travel all over the world staying in five star resorts. I used AMEX FHR and they should not be in the program. I give them 3 stars rather than 2 as when I finally got to my room navigating the elevator with the clubbers going to the roof, I had a luggage issue which the night security team was very helpful in assisting. But unless you want the club atmosphere and no personal attention without dropping a lot of money (never mind that the rooms are in excess of $800/night) don't stay here.
Amazing experience!
Honestly the best service and staff I have ever encountered. So nice, genuine, and legit. So clean and friendly. A million percent recommended! Could not recommend and better place to stay/place to get dinner!!!! Especially Andrew! Best ever:)))
Another A++ stay
Just checked out from the Edition Tampa and must say this stay might have been the best I’ve had here yet. I always make it a point to stay here when in town on business because the service is impeccable, the rooms are always spotless, and the amentities (the pool and various bars especially) can’t be beat. And you can’t forget Lilac. A Michelin starred restaurant that could hold its own in my home of Chicago. The attention to detail here is unparalleled and each and every staff member is always in a great mood, happy to help, and you can tell they genuinely enjoy working here. A rare find. One of the better hotels you can stay at in Florida. HUGE fan
Dined at Lilac.
It was delicious. A little pricey but worth it. Flavorful and beautifully presented
I love everything about The Edition starting from the smell
I love everything about The Edition starting from the smell of the lobby and the decor. The front desk staff is always friendly and welcoming. Rooms are really well kept, along with the pool and all the common areas. The punch room is an incredible experience with unmatched service and a truly exceptional mixology experience.
Overpriced yet underwhelming.
Overhyped yet top-tier bland. $200/night quality for $600/night

Oh Covid caused you to raise prices and pay off 80% of your staff? Stop the greedflation!!! We are not in a pandemic anymore, start cleaning the rooms and property again! You sorry bunch of clowns. Read your the fine print on their website, they state they can't be held liable for bedbugs. Over priced, over promised, severely under delivered. #Teamportnoy

A friend of mine stayed at the Tampa Edition and got completely ripped off. Overpriced room, overpriced drinks at the bar (terribly mixed by the way), pompous staff... could go on and on. Will not be staying in the future.
Best 30th Birthday!
WOW...WOW We celebrated my daughter's 30th birthday at the Edition and it was amazing! We stayed for a week, the hotel is gorgeous, great location and the staff made it so special for her! Shout out to David at The Market, he was incredible. He was so attentive and sweet. Bailee&Gaby were awesome as well! And thanks again to Audriana Suero! I had spoken to her on the phone and we had such a lovely conversation that she came to the front desk to greet us personally upon arrival! ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Beautiful lobby and great coffee! The rooftop pool is a great place to stop and enjoy the view of the city. You don't have to be a guest to visit these places, either!
Vegas atmosphere, but look elsewhere if not into the club scene.
Stayed here on a Friday and Saturday night with our 15 and 19 year old kids. Arrived late and we could barely get in the door or move in the lobby because there were so many so people trying to get into the club and the lobby is tiny. Check in desk is very small and looks like a concierge desk so it was difficult to determine where check in actually was. Apparently this is the place to “be seen.” There was a lot of skin showing and a lot of selfie taking in the lobby and some heavily intoxicated people. Not exactly my thing or what I expect from a 5 star hotel. Stayed in a suite which was very nice and comfortable. Problem was that we were on the 3rd floor. The club music blared until after 2 am. It was so loud that we could identify all the songs from the club while sitting in our room. Again, not what we expected from a 5 star hotel, especially at the price we were paying for a suite. Pool area was nice. Hotel location was great. If you are into the club scene, this is the place for you. If the club scene isn’t your thing, I would stay elsewhere. The hotel needs to decide if they want to accommodate hotel guests or club goers—trying to do both doesn’t work.
Beautiful hotel, great restaurants and bars.
Amazing coffee shop, terrific staff, well maintained property. I will be going there often. The rooftop bar and pool is beautiful. A must stay place for anyone in Tampa!
