I liked it but pay attention to the prices
I tried the macadamia crusted baked fish sticks with a side of braised lentils and smashed avocado. The portion of fish sticks seemed small for the price, but I'm aware that I'm paying for quality and healthy options over portion sizes. They were cooked to my liking and tasty, served on a thin bed of spinach in a compostable container. The sides were of generous portions in my opinion and definitely healthy, but I felt lacked any special flavor. I tend to eat "plain" tasting foods so that I taste the food itself and not seasonings so I was more than okay with this, but others may find them a bit bland. However, there were other options on the menu that might have stronger flavors. My main priority was to order something healthy that I might choose to prepare for myself, and these items hit that mark.
The main mistake that I made was that I did not ask for the price of the bottled drink I chose before I purchased it. It wound up being $9! It's very possible that the way it was made warranted that price (it was a flavored water - perhaps the flavor was pressed in a certain unique way? No sarcasm intended either, some methods may be expensive). Totally my fault though that I didn't ask first. I believe there were other less expensive beverage options available.
I would say it's worth a try as long as you're willing to spend a little more for some more unique yet simple food options. And definitely ask for prices before purchasing if the prices aren't posted.
Things to note:
- They don't take cash.
- They only have "compost" or "recycle" bins which leads me to believe that most everything they supply besides the metal cutlery is recyclable or compostable.
- The restaurant is on the small side and has a cafeteria feel to it, which isn't a negative. Just something to keep in mind if you're particular about ambiance. The feel of the decor, however, is clean and bright.
Great selection
My friends were in town for the weekend and this was the first place we went to. It had a lot of great vegetarian/vegan options that was great.

Well thought out tasty and nutritional dishes. I ordered the salmon with broccolini and quinoa. Setting was light, airy and welcoming. Location is superb and easy to find. 4 stars because the front staff wasn't very welcoming, no smiles, no greetings, no enjoy your meal, barely any eye contact. I would think working for a famous person like Antoni you would want to display a fun vibe similar to his because people are going to come to the restaurant expecting that. That's why we went.
Be the first to ReplyBeing Friendly Doesn’t Hurt
My son and I come here often for their delicious smoothies & food. The place is very pretty and in a great location. Unfortunately the staff is not very friendly and doesn’t really make eye contact. We were there yesterday and the person who made our smoothies barely acknowledged when we said thank you. The owners are often there and are also very unfriendly.
Antoni of Queer Eye is a part owner and he is the opposite of this vibe. They should take lessons from him in how to provide good service.
Hipster Hype
Visited this place with my gf gf (gluten free girlfriend). It’s a Small restaurant with seating available and AC. I had the Thai chicken bowel and she had the poached egg breakfast bowl. Mine was okay: good serving of chicken with a very light peanut satay sauce, and a ton of shredded beets - too much actually, as the beets made up the majority of the bowl. It needed more sauce but was okay. Hers was a bit of a mess and I ended up eating some of it as she didn’t like it. It looked okay initially but the consistency was mushy - the sweet potato hash browns were more of a mash, and there was no crispness. It lacked flavour. Probably super healthy but it was essentially a spinach avocado potato mush. Price was NYC average. Staff were friendly.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, nice staff, distanced manager
The (vegetarian) dishes are simply great and affordable. The staff is nice. Yet the manager doesn't seem to me so sympathetic. He didn't even say hello, and he ordered me to put my trace and empty plate on the counter (am I his employee?!). Next morning, after I complemented the food, he thanked me and even smiled(!). Notwithstanding, I do recommend this restaurant for its good food and nice location. Perhaps I'm a bit masochistic. Smile, big boy, smile!

I am being generous with 3 stars. Know this place well when it was the REAL Village Den. It claims the same name as old place that was there forever. Unfortunately, it is not even remotely the same. It's new fangled healthy menu and completely new decor are just not cutting it. Even to get a cup of coffee/tea is a project, raw sugar, almond milk, no sugar substitutes except agave. If you are going to open a new place at least give it a new name so as not to fool the public. Visiting from out of town, I was so looking forward to returning there but was gravely disappointed. Sorry to see the old place gone.

This was a party of 6, still had seats, and the food was great. The menu selections were very interesting and we'll be back!

Stopped here for a quick bite while wandering around the Village and Chelsea. Food is average, they charge for refills on iced tea!!

This beautifully old style diner is a lovely place for breakfast that was highly recommended by a local. Sit in one of the wooden booths and study the comprehensive menu to find whatever you fancy. Efficient and friendly staff will keep your cup topped up but the atmosphere is relaxed and unrushed. Very yummy food and overall a lovely experience.
