🤢 2/5 - -Fine food...frightening service-

Our most recent visit to the Village Pub gave us one surprise I certainly would not expect from a restaurant as consistent as theirs... some of the worst service I have EVER received.
After coming on numerous occasions I can wholeheartedly say that you would be hard pressed to find anything on the menu that is genuinely bad and the service is usually warm, inviting, and comfortable, yet polished (as you would expect at a fairly casual restaurant like this).
However, Our recent dinner (2/3/2020) with the server John K felt like we were at an entirely different restaurant.
From the second we sat down there was an air of coldness and almost disdain as if he did not even want to be waiting on us. This continued throughout the meal to an inexplicable extent that my dining partners and I all noticed his body language as well as basic failures to provide service. John did not remove the menus from our table (however a lovely blonde lady recognized we clearly did not need them and promptly removed them), did not offer us any bread from the usually specular bread basket (a separate gentleman had to do so when he noticed the glaring emptiness), did not remove the flatware as needed, and on several occasions not only seemed disinterested in serving us but actually walked away as we were in the process of deciding on dessert. I would understand urgency if this was prime dinner hour however it was 8:00pm when we were seated with the restaurant about 1/3 full, furthermore his behavior crossed far beyond small missteps and well into the realm of simple disrespect.
The food was satisfying and well prepared as usual, each of us having the perennial favourite pub burger and no complaints.
I would urge the Village Pub to assess the situation to ensure that John does not treat any other guests the same way. Forgetting a minor thing like removing one menu can be overlooked, but a stack of 5 menus is simply careless. Furthermore, I can see no situation where it would be okay for a server to turn their back on guests and walk away as they decide on dessert...
I would recommend in general, particularly for the drinks, but caution you that your experience may greatly vary with the service.
