I appreciated my time at the violet hour.
My group and I had a bit of trouble finding this spot because it is incognito. We had to ask around to find the entrance. The entrance blends in with the wall. There wasn't much of a wait. The host was able to seat us pretty quickly. The inside is dark to create an intimate space. They have chairs that have a long back to create some privacy between you and the person/people you decide to have dinner with here. It's a place where you should definitely keep your voice down as not to disturb others. Our water was prompt and always came around to ask if we needed anything or to fill our waters. My mom ordered a chicken sandwich while my aunt and I ordered the smash burger with a side of truffle fries. We all enjoyed our meals We were really impressed by the drink menu. We started off with the White Linen, Paloma, and Run it Back. All of our drinks were yummy. My mom got a second Paloma. And my aunt got the BBAWTDHY. I found the name so funny because it's so true. We were excited to give this drink a try because of the nilla wafer included in this drink. We got curious and asked how this drink is made and how do the nilla wafers come into the equation. Our waiter was able to give us a full length answer and it was cool to find out the method of making this drink. We all took sips of it because it's definitely strong. You only need one of these. Overall I had a great experience at the Violet Hour.

My friends and I came here after hitting a Happy Hour that was fairly close. My crew always hits more than 1 spot so when I saw this location was nearby we had to go! My friend also said she heard about this place from another friend, so at that point it was meant for us to check it out. The atmosphere is so classy, quiet yet you're able to have your conversation with light music in the background, dark with an intimate touch. We unfortunately missed HH which they had about 4-5 different options for around $11. Their other drinks ranged from $15+. They are a bit on the pricey side, but I will say that they do mix them very well.

Heard some good things from others and thought to give it a go. While reservations are highly recommended, my friends and I came at just the right time. We were able to slide in before the place really got packed. I chose to order the mustache delight as it's their take on a root beer whiskey sour. I love whiskey and root beer - why not? Definitely strong but the flavor blend together seamlessly. Two of these and you'll be feeling just right. Cute dark sensual ambiance. It's quiet and the vibes are adult classy and respectful. Excellent customer service. Will be returning.

The perfect date night. Be sure to check out their house rules in the restroom. When I visited, the featured bartender was Amanda Figueroa, showcasing drinks that are reminiscent of her cultural background and hometown. The drink were phenomenal! I also ordered fries, which were the perfect snack for the occasion.

I was sitting with my back up against the curtain wall, which kept having my chair bumped as people went to the bathroom. This was incredibly frustrating, as I nearly spilled my drink. We had the steep climb, bogdaddy, twisted by nature and impermanence. The bogdaddy tasted strongly of anise. Otherwise, all the drinks were great.
Be the first to ReplyReally cute in the dark speakeasy.
I found this place two years ago on a random day and they had a in the dark theme which was really cool. And coming back now was just an enjoyable experience. Their liquor is pretty strong as they tend to be hand heavy pour but still pretty good tasting

Was very excited about going. Had heard that the drinks were amazing. That part was absolutely correct. We had a great mixologist sat at the bar and shared several drinks. Had their truffle fries, which were very good and their crab dip. Ambiance was nothing special. I expected a lot more based on their website. The evening ended up sadly because I believe I lost my ring there, and sent a query to them the next morning left three phone calls and two emails and I've never heard a response. The ring was very sentimental and you would think they could at least respond. Had the feel that it was a place where they did their jobs well but it was just that. A job no more no less. You were just another number and dollars in the cash till.

The Violet Hour is surely one of my favorite speakeasies in Chicago! We recently visited this place during Happy Hour to kick-start celebrating a friend's birthday. I know very few places that extend Happy Hours till Friday timings 5-7 pm! We all ordered drinks from The Golden Hour section, and it's really difficult to pick favorites as everything was really good! We tried the White Linen, Water Lily, Paloma, Boulevardier and Hotel Nacional! All the drinks were fairly priced at 13 dollars which is a good steal for the quality cocktail drinks they have to offer! We also ordered some truffle fries and sweet and sour cauliflower to share with the drinks. We absolutely devoured the cauliflower bites, very appetising! The Violet Hour, just like many speakeasies is inspired by the pre-prohibition style libation and does a really good job of maintaining its essence and aesthetics. Their entry is not easily noticeable and once checked in, the seating is secluded and lets you enjoy a private experience! They keep introducing new cocktails and I'm definitely coming back to try more! I did not try their absinthe experience during this visit, however, it is worth mentioning as it's pretty unique and a fun experience!

I visited this place recently due to really great reviews from my friends. I love the speakeasy feel to the place, and the decor. They also have amazing desserts. It can get a little crowded, but definitely worth the wait.

The downfall was in the security staff. They made my sister visiting from Mexico take out all her IDs and told her in front of other customers that she needed an American form of ID to be let in. Kind of ironic considering they had a "all countries of origin welcome" sign right next to the woman that told her that. She took the IDs to the back to talk to the manager and finally let us in after 5+ minutes of waiting in awkward silence. They warned her it was her last time being let with that form of ID and that they'd only make an exception this time. There was no understanding of the different types of physical IDs needed to be let into a bar in the state of IL and kept saying they were just trying to avoid losing their liquor license. All 3 IDs given had her birthday and a picture... the issue was that they were from Mexico. Told her to bring her visa/ passport next time, which to any foreigner it is an unreasonable thing to bring to a bar. The hostess that was in the middle of the confrontation apologized after she sat us down, confirming that the way the situation was handled was visibly uncomfortable to us. They need to be more inclusive and friendly.

Went here for a first date tonight and reallyenjoyed it! The ambiance is sleek and sexy - individual cocktail tables in a big, dark open space. We order 2 cocktails off the menu and thendid 2 "dealers choice" from our server, Mandy, and they were all great! She was amazing. Highly reccomend this spot for anyone looking for a cool cocktail bar.

Good cocktails with lowkey vibes in the busy neighborhood of Wicker Park! The cocktails are delicious and balanced and the atmosphere is perfect for a date night.

The drinks and food were great! We ordered the burger with fries to share, before we could finish it, we ordered another round of the food. It was AMAZING! Reminiscing about it at the moment & can't wait to go back. It reminds me of a Big Mac, but elevated. Drinks are very spirit forward, just expect that. Our drinks were great, and just a cocktail each was enough for our hour stay. Generous portions and great ambiance. Highly recommend this place!
Be the first to ReplyVery cool spot for craft cocktail drinks and conversation.
Interesting drink menu. I had the Treat Yourself Rice, which was nice. My friend had the Got My Mojo Back, which I thought tasted like medicine. Light bites available. Ambiance was really nice.

Drinks are great but that's it, I went last night with my friend and our server was sooo rude, we both work in the restaurant industry and we would never treat a table like she did, she gave me a dirty look after I ask what would she recommend for cocktails, never came back to check if we liked the food or the drinks. The restaurant gives farmer vibes but still cute, I wouldn't go back just bc the server was rude for no reason

TL;DR:Props to the Violet Hour - I walked right past this cocktail bar because the door really is camouflaged! Inside this place, it is dimly light with flickering lights on all the tables. The truffle fries were okay, but they could have had more sauce on the side. The drink called Monk's Coco is a yummy drink for a cold night or a sweet treat
Be the first to ReplyOverall okay vibes.
The space is very dark, intimate and expensive looking. Experience would have been better but service was not great. We had 3 different people running food and drink to our table so we were constantly interrupted for orders that we already put in. This also probably led to the confusion where the server charged or table for the wrong bill (table next to us got our bill) and then proceeded charge us more for his error. Definitely killed the positive vibes.Frites we're tasty and drinks are nice.
