Absolutely Amazing!!!
We loved everything about our experience at 3 Blacksmiths. As we were waiting for the restaurant to open, we met some of the other guests. I loved how they were just as excited as us to be there that night. The atmosphere is exceptional, the staff is exceptional, and the food was exceptional. I am thankful for the entire experience and would love to go again in the future.

In the heart of Sperryville, VA, 3 Blacksmiths, is a restaurant that has garnered high praise, including an affirming nod from the Washington Post. Known for its intimate, home-like ambiance and a Chef's Kitchen that exudes warmth and coziness, this dining spot sets high expectations. A recent visit, however, left us with mixed feelings about our culinary journey through its five-course meal, complemented by an amuse-bouche, with the entire experience costing approximately $1200 for four guests, wine pairings and additional drinks included. The evening began on a high note with an amuse-bouche, particularly the quail egg biscuit paired with pork belly and hollandaise sauce, showcasing a promising start with its delightful flavors and textures. Both the oyster and the savory cannoli maintained the momentum, suggesting a memorable meal ahead. The Maine monkfish, served as one of the main courses, was commendably prepared, holding its ground as a solid choice. Similarly, the Roasted Artichoke Soup offered a satisfying blend of flavors, indicative of the kitchen's capabilities. However, the subsequent courses revealed areas for improvement. The Casunzei, a red wine braised beet ravioli, fell short of expectations. Despite its tender pasta and the sweetness of the beets, it seemed to lack the complexity and technique one might anticipate from a restaurant of this caliber. The main dish, Pharaoh Quail Roulade, though adequately prepared, was let down by its accompaniments. The crosnes and sweet potato pave failed to leave an impression, with the latter being notably underseasoned. The final course, a Winter Citrus Torte, unfortunately did not resonate with our table. Reminiscent of a dessert from a bygone era, it missed the mark in delivering the nuanced flavors described on the menu, such as the olive oil in the gelato. On the service front, while generally commendable, there were moments that detracted from the overall experience. An overlooked glass from a previous wine pairing lingered too long, and a server's tendency to speak both softly and rapidly, even after requests for clarity, meant that we often had to rely solely on the menu descriptions. A particular aspect that could enhance the dining experience would be a more traditional division of roles, with Chef Addeo focusing on dish descriptions and a sommelier or beverage director introducing the wine pairings. This might align better with diners' expectations and enhance the appreciation of each course and its accompanying wine. While 3 Blacksmiths has been lauded as one of Virginia's premier dining experiences, our encounter left us longing for the culinary excellence we had anticipated. It's clear that the restaurant possesses the ingredients for a truly exceptional dining experience, from its beautiful setting to the promise shown in several dishes. However, refining the balance and execution of some courses, along with slight adjustments to service, could elevate 3 Blacksmiths to fully meet the lofty expectations it inspires

BEST DINING EXPERIENCE OF OUR LIVES even surpassing Inn at Little Washington and Joel Robuchon chef's table at his restaurants in New York and Paris!! The amazing Addeo couple who orchestrate this make you feel like a welcome guest in their home. The venue is small, warm, and inviting with custom touches like the blacksmith-themed anvil with your name at the table. The staff is perfectly (just enough) attentive and knowledgeable. The food is almost indescribable except to say that it every bite is a party in your mouth. Bread is served on hot stones to keep it warm. Watching the cooking and plating magic is engrossingly entertaining. The wine pairing was perfection with detailed descriptions of the taste profiles and origins of the uncommon wines. Hats off to Sara, Jake and their staff for making this an exceptionally special evening that we won't forget. Cannot wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful, wonderful. I want to go again
It was wonderful. The food was wonderful and the service was wonderful. It was just wonderful. Even the coffee was wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the wait
Beautiful setting, excellent dishes, and friendly owners! It is worth the wait. We periodically check for cancellations and openings and get in when we can!
Be the first to ReplyNot at all deserving of the hype
The entire experience: food, atmosphere, service, pairings...all over rated. It's trendy, not great, food. Nothing specific was wrong, but nothing was outstanding either. It's difficult to get a table because of the number of available tables. None of it lived up to the hype. At these prices, i'll go elsewhere.

Second time visiting and it’s just as wonderful. Had a table for 4 in the front comfortable distance from other patrons so that you can enjoy a conversation without bothering or hearing others. The first drink was a Portuguese sparkling wine , blanc de blanc which was excellent. All the dishes were very good and the presentation was superb . Jake and Sara are wonderful hosts and do a great job explaining the dishes served. Highly recommended.

This was our first time eating at Three Blacksmiths, but it definitely won't be the last. It is a special experience, one seating, limited to 20 people in an exquisitely appointed dining area that allows you to watch the entire team as they prepare each course. Jake and Sara, the co-owners and Executive Chef and General Manager respectively have done an amazing job of building a culinary team that operates with clockwork precision and the steady confident pace of experts creating remarkable dishes. The food was spectacular, the service impeccable, and the wine pairings made both the wine and food taste better. The restaurant coordinator Gabriel has clearly worked hard to make every aspect of the dinner flawless. From the very first amuse bouche, to the very last sip of French Press coffee, every single thing we tasted was among the best we had ever had. I have lived on multiple continents and travelled to more than 50 countries, but I can honestly say that the food at Three Blacksmiths was the most amazing and enjoyable in terms of tastes, textures, composition and complexity that I have ever had. Luke and Estela, Sous Chef and Kitchen Assistant rounded out the evening's team and every single one of them visited us at some point in the evening, making us feel like we had been invited to a very elaborate dinner party thrown by Jake and Sara's family. THE MOST AMAZING MEAL EVER. By the third course, I remarked that I felt like I was an alien from another planet who had never actually eaten earth food before. My wife said it wasn't even cooking, it was culinary artistry...each dish was a work of art made to divine perfection. We will be going back.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal I have had, can't wait to return!
We had the absolute pleasure of dining at 3 Blacksmiths last week. It was the best meal I have eaten, both in taste and presentation, with the added huge bonus of meeting all the staff and the owners over the course of the evening. The personal attention to diners makes you feel you are at a dinner party (where unfortunately the hosts can't sit down but are totally attentive and charming). There are six or seven tables (depending on group sizes) and one seating, ample candlelight in a charming dining room with plenty of space between tables. Sara, one of the owners, had reached out ahead of time to see if there were any celebrations or dietary restrictions. We were greeted by a happy anniversary note and then a card at the end of dinner. Over the evening there were a few more surprise courses than listed on the menu (photographed below). I missed taking pictures of multiple courses because I was so excited to dive in! Every bite was truly delicious, and all the combinations were so well matched and provided little surprises of texture or taste as well as beauty. We both opted for the zero proof pairing as we had never done that before and I would more than happily forgo wine and do that again--the "mocktails" were perfectly matched to the course. For example the meyer lemon and thyme "Meyer Lemon Drop" was the perfect pairing for the scallop crudo course. Each drink perfectly complemented and brought another level of interest to the food itself and I can't imagine wine being able to do it so well. Given a choice, it brought more to the meal than a wine pairing, however delightful (and other guests having the wine pairing seemed very delighted!). We savored each bite and ate slowly, the entire experience of the meal was more than 3 hours, we enjoyed watching the staff prepare and assemble the courses with the open kitchen (remarkably quiet). The "amuses bouche" trio was mackerel and a gourgere and another one which is escaping me, all so good, all different but complimentary!). The Scallops were magical looking and divine tasting. The black kale and beans were warming and delicious and the ravioli were delicate and divine and the frisee greens added a gentle bite and contrast. The Pekin duck was the best duck I have tasted. The meat tender and flavorful and moist and the fat perfectly cooked and full of smoky flavor. The Mont Blanc dessert was delightful. It looks like a ski slope of meringue (browned with a torch) then a meringue bowl for the chestnut filling with candied nuts. A candied violet added a touch of color. Perfect finish to our dinner (also with a wonderful cardamon thai tea mocktail). I was inspired to want to learn more about making zero proof pairings myself when I cook for company! We can't wait to go back! The staff were delightful as I said and I was chatting with Sara about cookbooks and she not only brought one out for me to see but followed up the next day with favorite cookbooks of all the staff. What a wonderful personal and sincere touch. Reservations are pretty full 200 days out but we found a table available 3 weeks out and they have a cancellation list. I can't recommend 3 Blacksmiths highly enough. I truly can't wait to return. The combination of food, drink and hospitality has never been matched!
Be the first to ReplyShhh, Don't Tell Anyone Else!
On our third visit, we were fortunate to bring 4 first-timers with us to experience Three Blacksmiths. It was a toss-up between how much we enjoyed the experience as compared to watching our friends and family enjoy the experience for the first time. An extraordinary evening for us all.
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing experience.
We had an amazing evening at Three Blacksmiths. The setting is lovely, the attention to every detail is so artful, from the flatware to the little "go home" cookie. Every course from start to finish is incredibly well thought out. Creativity in creating a menu with wonderful local ingredients is evident in every aspect of the meal. Jake and Sara are incredible hosts, and the staff truly seems to enjoy working together to provide an unforgettable evening. We were treated with great care and dietary needs were met without hesitation. The experience is so special but not stuffy or pretentious. What a great way to celebrate with friends!
Be the first to ReplySecond time at Three Blacksmiths
This is our second visit to this restaurant and again, we had the best time. It's high-end but not stuffy. The personal touch that Sarah and Jake put into their meals makes all the difference. The food is superb, the service is impeccable. Clean and well-kept. Cozy and welcoming. Definitely a restaurant we will visit again. We have dined at other nearby restaurants in the area, all tasting menus at The Blue Rock, Houndstooth Restaurant, and the Inn At Little Washington. They were all enjoyable experiences and unique in what they offered, but I must say Three Blacksmiths is our favorite!
Be the first to ReplyThe best meal ever
So yes, you have to wrangle through the online reservation system and wait months for a table, but it is oh, so worth it. Every course, every morsel was delicious and beautifully prepared. The risotto was the most amazing thing I have ever eaten - but so was all the food. The room is large and airy, tables generously spaced apart and the staff amazing, attentive and masked!. We stayed overnight a the nearby Hopkins Ordinary which perfect - we could enjoy our wine and cocktails and just walk back to our rooms. I could not imagine nor plan a better or more memorable meal for my birthday.
Be the first to ReplyPerfection.
I took some time after our dinner before writing the review. I wanted it to be as careful and thoughtful as every single morsel they served to us. It is not possible for me to do them justice. The atmosphere is comfortable and perfect for the area. The chefs serve each course which makes the experience even more special. They were very careful with our dietary needs. Every single bite was delicious. The creativity, attention to detail - just phenomenal. We already made our next reservation. It is worth the months of waiting.
