Amazing, beautiful table
Amazing dinner. Frankly, it's a place where you really have to come and taste the chef's dishes one day. Inventive cuisine, precise and excellent cooking, wows on several occasions. How can you imagine foie gras with white asparagus marinated in vinegar 🤔... Frankly, since "L'eau à la bouche", we haven't had such pleasure. Everything was just beautiful. And even the cheese was a highlight. We will come back, for sure! Thanks to the whole team.

Nowadays our children can't eat in a restaurant for less than $25, Toqué introduces them to cooking for $35 during spring break. WOW! Attention upon arrival, mocktail offered to children, starters, meals, desserts, sweets and surprises, in addition to visiting the kitchen and being greeted by the employees. Congratulations for these remarkable touches!

Very nice room with space between tables giving us the impression of enjoying a personalized experience. Welcome and efficient and professional service while paying attention to details. Clear explanations of the menu and wines. The lunch menu which includes starter and main course is a godsend given the quality of the presentation of the dishes, the freshness of the products, and the varied flavors. The duck foie gras was airy and tasty accompanied by brioche bread. The marinated scallops were presented as a work of art, the taste exquisite. The slightly dry confit duck leg was served with a sauce with Asian flavors. Surprising and good. The wines offered by the glass accompany the dishes very well. The sommelier's explanations were appreciated. Let's not forget the desserts which are excellent. A great experience that deserves to be repeated. It costs between $100 and $120 per person, but the quality is there. Paid parking must be added.

We had an evening dinner at Toqué and were delighted with the service. Excellent and attentive, living up to the reputation of the establishment. Presentation of dishes and wines of great erudition. Our reservation relates to the “7 gourmet courses” food and wine pairings. Very good but not exceptional. Serving flank steak, as tender as it is, lacks a little imagination. Expectations were probably too high. In fact, only the $925 bill for two people was. We can check off the “bucket list,” but a repeat would be surprising. Jean-Luc would have said that “it’s not okay, it lacks fat and love”…all respectfully submitted.

The welcome by the butler and the offer of a valet service make you immediately feel welcome and the assignment of a well-spaced table so as not to merge into the group. 'next to make everything start very well! The imaginative seasonal cocktails are surprising and tasty. When choosing the tasting menu, we chose the food and wine pairing suggested by the house. It’s a must for an ideal layout! It is also possible to choose the Prestige pairing for even more exceptional wines. Each dish is a feast: research, finesse, delicacy, presentation and top quality products. We only had Wows at every service. The information transmitted by the servers and sommeliers adds to the quality of the experience. No wonder Toqué has won so many awards and recognition! Congratulations to the whole team and thank you! You promote Montreal gastronomy!

Wonderfully terrific! The servers(especially the asian guy who was probably assigned in our area) we had were all real courteous, proactive, quick and accomodating! They also speak english. Food was also exceptional, a real quebecois palate experience! We had a tour of their kitchen and it was absolutely a clean and organized process. The vibes and atmosphere was calming. Table spacing was also appropriate for some deep conversation. They accept credit/debit cards(not discover). Valet parking available. If we ever go back to montreal for another fine dining meal, we surely be back here once again

The lunch menu was a table d'hôte formula, and I had the beef tataki to start, beef striploin for mains, and dark chocolate ganache for dessert. All of them were good. The tataki was refreshing, while the striploin was simple but solid. I was surprised that the striploin was barely marinated (only had some sea salt sprinkled on it) and the amount of sauce was modest. This shows the confidence they have in the freshness of their produce and the desire for the natural flavours to speak for themselves. The waiter was friendly and attentive too.

Restaurants in Montréal serving lunch seem to be a bit of a rarity these days, so I was very happy to find that Restaurant Toqué is still serving their table d'hôte! It was a great experience from start to finish, with the set menu offering a wide variety of choices to suit all tastes. Presentation of each dish was second-to-none and the paired wines were all excellent. The restaurant seems to be in that perfect niche where it could work equally well for both a casual or more formal meal, there were some tourists but there were also plenty of corporate diners, understandable given how few of the best restaurants in Montréal are open for lunch! Service throughout the afternoon from Clara was excellent. She explained all the items perfectly and kept my glass topped up throughout the service. So merci to Clara for helping make this lunch go so smoothly! Overall a really enjoyable experience and a fantastic way to while away the hours. Would definitely recommend for a memorable meal in Montréal.

I visit Toqué often and it never disappoints. The food is on point and the service always perfect. I recommend it without hesitation.

We regularly eat in Michelin restaurants in UK and abroad and our friends saw good reviews for this place. It is pretentious, overpriced, our food was poor quality, badly cooked, and tasteless. All but one of the mains had mushrooms - my wife is allergic so had the lamb. It was tough and a struggle to cut even with a steak knife. No discernible taste of lamb but good exercise for the jaw chewing it. I don't know if there was a special on mushrooms at the market or chef thinks we should be eating more of them. In common with rest of food they lacked taste, additionally they were greasy Only one of the mains had a carb included so I had the poached egg starter, naturally with mushroom so I could have bread with it (only decent bit of the meal). The white of the egg was barely set, in disgusting little lumps. I have had poached eggs in some of the finest hotels and on the best cruise ships (and very ordinary places) - set white and runny yolk is always the order of the day. If chef wants to serve it virtually raw and unlike any other chef the diner should be warned, not least for health reasons. I recounted my experience to chefs on our 6* cruise line who agreed. "If you cant poach an egg don't put it on the menu" said one. "If you can't poach an egg ask yourself if you have chosen the right career" said another. Wise words! When I said I couldn't eat it they offered to replace it, giving the impression that a second egg would cost them more than the $40 odd I was paying. It came back with fully set white....and set yolk cut in half. As our friends had recommended the place I didn't want to make a fuss. Had they told me before I paid rather than after that they hadn't enjoyed their meals I would have. This is for businessmen on expenses who talk through the meal, ladies who lunch, those who follow the latest fashion and aren't bothered about the food taste or quality. A pretentious overpriced rip off.

After a good old fashion made dry, but I must add the single ice cube is way too large for the small rock glass, we decided as our polite waiter suggested, the tasting menu. Unfortunately, we had a very talkative patron sitting next to us who just raved about every dish that was going to be coming our way. Unlike his palate, the amuse bouch which was a carrot purée with chopped apples on the bottom was bitter and tasteless. As he pulled out his iPhone for a shot of each dish, each dish for us was flavorless and uninspired. Really, who stole the fresh herbs and spices? Bring your own salt and pepper. This is not worth the hype or the price. For sure!
Be the first to ReplyToque is the place to go for the best meal in Montreal
Toqué! Has been one of the best restaurants in Montreal for a long time. I’ve been there twice, first at their original location in east end Montreal on rue Saint Denis and many years later at the new location at place Jean-Paul-Riopelle in the downtown of Montreal. Normand Laprise’s food is sublime, the service is perfection and their style has always been ahead of the pack. The is a good reason why this restaurant has been open for over to decades. The food concept is entirely French, and true to form that means locally sourced and seasonal. He even went so far as to create his own gardens to do it. I’ve done the tasting menu both times I was there and was thrilled. However, with such great talent, usually comes great price, and it is not for the budget friendly faint-of-heart. You must make a reservation in advance.

Excellent service. From the hostess to our server and sommelier, service was exceptional. Seven course tasting menu with seven wine pairings was worth the price. A nice range of wines that complemented the dishes nicely.

This was my second time dining at Toqué, both times opting for their tasting menu. The first time I dined here, I left the dinner early. The service was drawn out, the courses were far too rich and by the time we got halfway through the menu my husband and I couldn’t continue. Last night, we found ourselves back at Toqué for a friend’s birthday dinner and this time arrived prepared for what was coming. Unfortunately, almost every course was either overcooked or under-flavoured. Again, we stopped short of the finish, deciding we just didn’t need to continue with more mediocre dishes. When my friend asked to speak with the chef, there could not have been less interest in her feedback nor any concern about the quality issues. As I scan the reviews posted on this restaurant, I am quite honestly shocked. I’m not someone who takes the time to post negative reviews…as you would see from my profile. In fact, I rarely post any reviews. But this overpriced establishment seems to be lost in the ego of what it once was. I only say “was” because I assume there was a reason it earned its acclaim at some point in time. As I have only ever opted for the tasting menu, if other guests choose to visit I would strongly recommend a la carte. Maybe that would lead to a better result? In a city like Montreal, where the culinary scene is so alive, interesting and creative…I can’t imagine why anyone would invest time or money to dine at Toqué? And to the representative of the restaurant reading this review, I feel it’s shameful and arrogant to not give a true audience to your guests when they are trying to share feedback with you directly. When you stop listening, you begin failing.

Friendly staff welcomed us into the restaurant. Our waiter was very businesslike and genial and acted as a good interface between us and the experience the restaurant had to offer, which is a bit different from your average night out and needs some setup. We opted for the tasting menu and it was amazing. Each course is delivered by (a different?) charming server who explains what is on the plate to contextualize it and help you fully appreciate it. This could be an overly fussy step but because everyone seems genuinely invested in the experience, it is nice and can be actually informative to anyone who is interested. I have no claim to special inside knowledge about what great food tastes like but judging by what my senses told me, it was a fantastic meal! I was delighted by the way every aspect of each course seemed considered and well-decided, flavors, textures, colors - everything seemed to conspire to make wonderful-tasting food, simple (or as complicated!?!) as that. This is an expensive meal and one better enjoyed if you can commit to the experience and take the cost out of the equation. For most of us, it will be a special occasion or a rare splurge. Accept that going in, put your worries about that behind you and you will be rewarded with an amazing dining experience.

This is fine dining, serving an extensive tasting menu that walks you through classic dishes that are expertly prepared and sometimes with updated twists. The food is beautifully and professionally presented and everything we had was very tasty. The wine pairings, selected by the sommelier, were perfect. If I had one less positive observation it's that the restaurant seems to lack a certain passion. While the staff is professional, they aren't overly warm and helpful. It all is executed well, but not with a lot of apparent enthusiasm.

What an unforgettable meal! Toque and the entire staff helped make my birthday celebration beyond unforgettable! What a culinary delight...each course was a work of art! We are still raving about the foie gras course...the best we have ever had, and we have had many at Michelin star restaurants. The tasting menu is a must, along with the wine pairings, which were perfect! The restaurant is beautiful, and we will treasure our signed menu, it will definitely be framed so that the memories will not fade.
Be the first to ReplySpecial Occasion or Romantic Dinner? Toque a MUST!
Upon planning our trip to Montreal, we were told that Toque was the culinary place to go. Well, I am here to tell you that "they" were right again. From the moment you walk in, you feel special. We went all out with the 7-course tasting menu with wine pairings. There is something about not knowing what is coming (especially for this fussy eater), but not one course disappointed. My favorites were the duck and beef filet. Ten different servers made sure our dinner was an unforgettable experience. If I did it again, I probably would just order my own wine, but the explanation of each wine was a great first-time experience as well. This place knows how to treat people and serve fine food.

We came back for their COVID reopening on their first day and tried their menu dégustation with prestige wine pairing.
It was absolutely mouthwatering. I dont like foie gras but their foie gras raviolis was absolutely delicious. Same thing for duck. I despise the taste of duck and I was quite hesitant, but their duck plate was incredibly flavourful and tasteful. I didn’t take the cheese plate and instead got an amandine dessert which was heavenly. I loved the experience.
The service was outstanding. We were the very last to leave at past midnight but at no point did we feel rushed out. They let us enjoy every bite.
Toque is no longer the same ...
I brought my husband to Toque for his birthday last night, and what was once our favourite place (pre-Covid as it has just reopened) was such a disappointment. We went with the 7 course degustation menu which is what we have always done. We paired it with the premium wines.
The issue(s) is that they seemingly decided to get rid of less desirable dishes for our courses ...the starter amuse bouche was fine but it was followed by flounder, trout (which was sent back) and foie gras that was so dry and pasty we had to wash it down with large glasses of water. We were then served duck which was so unflavourful and unappetizing that neither of us finished it. This was the 5th dish in a row that was sent back unfinished (which is saying something as the dishes are tiny to begin with). The dishes were paired with wine that just didn't make sense (example: a glass of PORT with the foie gras). It was shocking. The portions of the wine were so minute (at $345 per person for the premium wine you'd think they would offer more), however, they were so unenjoyable that we had a hard time getting them down to begin with.
Frustrated, we left before the last two courses were served, which is a shame considering how expensive it was, but honestly we were so frustrated by the lapse in quality and accurate wine pairing that we just wanted it to end.
In the end we were given a discount on our bill of 50% off the food, yet the bill (without the tip) was still $977.00! We will not return to this once-favourite place of ours ...not a great feeling to spend $1000 + tip and get home hungry.
A fantastic experience
We had been wanting to try Toque for a while and finally had a chance during our last visit to Montreal. The entire experience was top notch and well worth the price! We each chose the tasting menu but it's hard to choose a favourite dish.
They were also very accommodating with switching out fish for carpaccio since I'm not a fan of fish. We've been to a number of so-called "high end" restaurants that won't accept any substitutions so this was a pleasant surprise. Our waiter was also very friendly and attentive without being too overbearing.
Highly recommended to get a reservation at Toque if you have the chance!
Beautiful restaurant and food menu. Nice for special occasion or business dinner

The service at this restaurant was a bit disappointing, the waiter had a nasty attitude when it came to any different things. You could tell he was bored and had some place better to be. This was very frustrating as the food was pretty good. The hostess are super stars. Amazing welcome upon arrival and even the phone reservation was very pleasant. to elaborate more on the service, I ordered a drink that I normally have after dinner as a "digestive" and to some people it might seem odd but it is my choice. The waiter made me feel like an alien when I ordered it and I was very embarrassed as I was with some friends. My other frustration was the waiter did not offer coffee or tea with our desert. to be honest I was not sure if they even offered it until I asked. After the desert we then got offered coffee or tea... Personally I feel like after desert it is a little late. Maybe he only realized it after I mentioned it that he forgot to offer coffee or tea or maybe it is just their procedure. Another comment I would like to add that during the reservation phone call I mentioned that it was someone birthday and I provided them with their name but when they gave us the birthday card it was not even addressed to that person. It just said happy birthday and signed by the chef. I would have expected a little more attention to detail when eating at such establishments. I think that fine dining is wonderful however we left still hungry... Portions are very small. Ambiance is a little boring. Not what I was expecting.
