This is paying homage to a top ten dish all-time at Trippa.
The Vitello Tonnato is one of the simplest yet most amazing dishes I've ever experienced. Veal served cold and tuna cream wouldn't be desirable in any other setting but here it's spectacular. The fattiness of the veal mixed with the briny fishy yet creamy flavors of the tuna are a the perfect mix. Dreaming of another opportunity to return or to try it at their Testina location in HK. The staff and service was phenomenal. Pietro was even gracious enough to chat a bit about the restaurant and made me feel welcome and at home. Can't say enough about Trippa
Be the first to ReplyTrippa was my favorite meal in Milano.
First I will discuss logistics as the reservations do not come easy, although they are attainable. They open 3 weeks in advance at 12:00 PM local time, meaning I needed to ensure I was awake before 6:00 AM EDT to join the virtual queue on their website. There is no need to refresh the page on your mobile as you will automatically see your spot in the queue move closer to the front of the line. I was at least 5th in the queue when I joined, but still obtained our desired reservations for 4 people on a Friday night. The food and dining experience were exceptional. We are not heavy eaters but ordered 6 savory items and a dessert to be enjoyed family style and had more than enough. My favorite dishes in order were: Tagliatelle - simple, delicious, and not to be missed. This type of pasta is why one travels to Italy. Veal tuna (Vitello Tonnato) - we first had this dish in Rome on a prior trip and were mind-blown. At Trippa we felt the same way. Fig and tomato salad - refreshing and flavorful, a perfect appetizer. Deer ragu - tasty Fried Tripe - one of their signature dishes. Fun to try, although my ignorant self thinks i would have enjoyed it more with a red dipping sauce. As you can see, that accounts for 5 of the 6 savory items we ordered! The only dish not mentioned was the cod, which was fine although next time I would skip or replace. They have a strong wine selection although we were perfectly happy with the liter bottle of house red for under 30 EUR. The service was friendly and attentive and the vibes were warm. If there is one meal in Milan not to be missed, it is Trippa.

The service was good and the food as well.

This is a moderate size Michelin restaurant, where reservations are a must and a bit complicated. After several months of navigating their system, i finally found a time-slot on their portal, which fit my travel plans. I sat on the barstool, seating, facing the open kitchen. It's an all hands on deck kitchen and food comes out fairly quickly. I had the veal and Tuna crema. It's such an odd pairing but it works. Veal was tender and did not eclipse the aerated tuna and anchiove crema. a contrast in textures. Light but heavy at the same time. something I won't order again, but I do not regret trying it. My favorite dish was the second one which was one of the few items that was lighter. I never tried Agretti before, which is a grass like herb which takes on salt from the marshes. Imagine grassy seaweed served over creamy cauliflower purée and a poached egg. Beautiful delicate mouth feel with the textural snap from the greens. The menu is translated into English, but doesn't always paint the full picture. For example, the Agretti dish which I enjoyed did not list the star ingredient, agretti. Surprisingly not very many vegetarian options if any. A bit more on the logistics. On the seating reservation system. You can only book online at noon Milan time. Only a few slots are opened a few weeks ahead. Once you're seated, you have a 2 1/2 hour slot to complete your meal. I found it to be the perfect amount of time, but the waiters were a bit anxious to get my order in right away. After they realized i was not trying to order half the menu, they were more relaxed. I enjoyed my meal, but probably won't return because of the complicated reservation system.

Our best meal in Milan definitely make a reservation and be open to trying everything. Not a huge tripe fan but their fried tripe is their trademark for a reason so good. You need to reserve the bone marrow in advance, it definitely doesnt dissapoint. All this being said I think the tartar dish on toast actually stole the show. Great restaurant!

We stumbled upon Trippa after a long day of lounging at QC Termemilano nearby, and were lucky enough to be seated without a reservation. The meal that followed was nothing less than magical. They have a deep wine list and we found the perfect wine for a hearty meat/pasta meal - Rinnegato Vendemmia 2015. While we waited for our food, which came out amazingly fast, we enjoyed the vibrant, casual atmosphere. This is a fun place friends come to dine and drink together. After a nice start with some grilled veggies, we reveled in an amazing, simple pasta, then dove into the most amazing steak I've had in all of Europe. We also scored an order of the grilled bone marrow, which was incredible. I wish I could live this day over again.

Trippa makes top lists across various publications in the food world and for good reason! The service is attentive and per the Italian way, super personable. The menu is small, seasonal and definitely local/regional. It honors traditional dishes with a little bit of a twist, yet the food remains hearty. What I loved the most about the experience is that for all of its accolades, the vibe is mellow, humble and sincere. Make a reservation and secure a table. This place gets very busy. You can contact the restaurant via WhatsApp. They responded to us within minutes of messaging them. They are known for their fried tripe- order it!We enjoyed veal tagliata with vegetables, pasta of the day with smoked eggplant and green beans with poached tuna and a zucchini flower appetizer. Everything was delicious- my personal favorite was the green bean dish.I would definitely come back here. It's truly a well rounded experience from service to food and cozy atmosphere.

First off, definitely make a reservation! They make very easy even with no Italian, I contacted the restaurant using their WhatsApp to make the reservation one week prior. The service is wonderful and our server was so very charming and truly passionate about the what he serve. For glasses of wine, they can pick for you based what you order. Now, the food... where to start! The menu is relatively short, everything fresh and based on what's good in the market and in season.Fried tripe - their signature appetizer, tripe slices fried perfectly and dusted with salt and pepperPumpkin ravioli - generous pumpkin filling sealed in pasta dough cooked al dente. Sweet and savory with every bite. Tripe of the day - stewed in a tomato based broth, we were mopping up the sauce just as the server recommended!Beef tendon stew - a special of the day, the ends of the muscle ( tendon?) is cooked soft on the inside and crispy on the inside. Truly a texture bonzana for your mouth.Vegetables - our server joked that why would you come to a restaurant called Trippa for vegetables?! It was truly tasty, they had the daily vegetables (tonight it was fennel, kale and spinach) cooked wonderfully in butter and seasoned amazingly. If you can make the trip out here, definitely don't miss this!

MMMMMM...Oh, and may I mention it's Michelin rated??We scored a last minute reservation to Trippa, a happening must-go-to place in Milan. It was truly a memorable and delicious 2 hours spent!Of course You have to order the Trippa! We ordered both the fried & stewed versions and they both re-affirmed our love of well cooked Trippa. The fried was crispy and light tossed with some salt and rosemary. I could eat this all day and all night. It's the perfect snack with a good beer. It was so good we asked for some to-go but were told no because it will get hard later. The stewed was similar to the dish in found in many Rome restaurants - tomato based and cooked until it melts in your mouth. My pasta was delicious. There was some sort of donkey dish on the menu but I'm just not that adventurous. Prices are affordable and the servers all speak English and are very helpful and proud of their food. I would definitely return when in Milano!

My friend who lives in Milan brought me here promising me that I would love it and she was indeed correct. The place is amazing and the service was awesome. We got the traditional tripe in tomatoes sauce, horse tartare, a delicious garlic flower dish and a traditional bolognese and veal and everything was super delicious. I can't wait to come back when I'm back in Milan.
