I've had several pleasant experiences at Vernick Fish! The food is always amazing - in particular I think the crudely and ceviches are top notch. At my most recent visit, my husband and I sat at the bar and had a fantastic bartender. Our bill was pricy but that's to be expected when dining at the bottom of the 4 Seasons.
Be the first to ReplyBest restaurant in Philly.
We dine out a lot. The service was impeccable. The bar tenders were amazing. The drinks were tasty and strong. The best cosmo I ever had? Not sure what was different. The flavor profiles were exquisite. We had the red snapper with collard greens. Who would have ever thought saffron and coconut milk in collard greens?? It was absolutely delicious! We also had the blackened shrimp, crab fried rice and chocolate silk pie for dessert. We will definitely return!

i had a long standing reservation (2 months) for a co-workers retirement & they just called to tell us theycan't keep now to accomodate a larger party. never going here ever & I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who actually expects a restaurant to honor a reservation. the person who called wasn't even apologetic.

Our server was one of the best I've ever had (I'm blanking on her name but she has been in the restaurant industry for 20 years and her father is a pastry chef). She made sue our experience was exceptional and the food was perfect. We really enjoyed the ceviche and (oh another dish that has raw fish but isn't called ceviche...). Food was delicious. Ambiance --ok.
Be the first to ReplyStaff and manager are very unaccommodating and rude.
We were coming here for our anniversary dinner -- I got pulled over on the way and it caused us to be running late. The reservation was for 5:45 PM. I called the restaurant and let them know that we were running late and trying to find parking at 5:55 PM. I didn't have time to call earlier as I was dealing with being pulled over. I let them know I was finding parking, why I was late, and that I'd be in there shortly. The person on the phone advised that it was okay. The restaurant has a 15-minute grace period, meaning we would be okay until 6 PM. We ended up walking in at 6:03 PM and went to the front desk to check in for our table. They told us they can't seat us at our reserved table because we were past the 15-minute grace period and that we'd have to sit at the bar or counter in front of the kitchen. What's crazy is that I went out of my way to over communicate with them that I was going to be late and they assured me it was fine, only to show up at the restaurant and be denied our table. I reminded them of the call we had just a few minutes ago and the situation that caused me to be late. There were 4 staff and a manger at the host stand for this, and all of them just gave me a snark look when I said this, didn't reply with anything, and just said they can offer us the counter seat. The restaurant was 75% unoccupied at this time and no one was waiting for a table. I understand that the restaurant has policies and wants to follow them, but refusing to seat us at our table after everything I went through that night, having an almost completely empty restaurant, taking all possible steps to communicate with them prior to my arrival, telling me it was okay on the phone, AND the restaurant knowing that we were repeat customers and it was our special anniversary dinner... it's a disgrace. Something funny worth noting -- we ended up sitting at the counter seat and only got 1 or 2 things and left all within an hour, and as we were walking out, the restaurant was still more than 50% unoccupied. Simple deduction skills show that we wouldn't have interrupted any of their later reservations with the timeline we were operating with. We ended up going somewhere else after to get a full meal. Also, I thought it was funny that when we walked in the first front door, the manager looked me up and down through the window with a nasty judgmental look, for I assume what I was wearing? Mind you, I have worn nearly this same exact outfit to places such as Morimoto, Jean-Georges, Barclay Prime, Volvér, etc. with no one even batting an eye or making me feel uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the wait staff at Vernick Fish wears jeans? Comical. It is clear that Vernick Fish staff and management are petty and don't care about the customer. I hope the literal 3 minutes you saved by not seating us at our table was worth losing thousands of dollars of repeat business. I was shocked to receive this kind of experience at a Four Seasons establishment. If you care about your experience and how a restaurant treats you, avoid this place. Either that, or just make sure that any life situations that are out of your control don't occur when you have a reservation with them :)
Be the first to ReplyThis was the top meal I've had thus far in 2024.
For starters, the ambience was sexy and trendy, without being over the top. The music selection and lighting were a perfect backdrop to dinner. My server, Corey, was patience and offered excellent recommendations. It's always a positive when your server is excited about the food he's presenting. The food: AMAZING. Scallops were divine. Meaty, sweet, with the perfect crust. The broiled oysters were a flavor bomb. 6 was just right, but I could've had a dozen more. The jerk marinated red snapper entree was absolutely delectable. Salty, crispy, spice, and umami all in one dish. The smoked Hollandaise and truffle combined with the fingerling Potatoes was heavenly. The South Hampton iced tea was one of the most unique cocktails I've ever tasted. Even the dessert, dark chocolate sorbet, was decadent and rich in flavor. Needless to say, whenever I'm in Philly, I'll be back. Hats off to the staff.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a reservation at the chefs counter.
The restaurant is beautiful and our server was the sweetest. As far as food, we had the crudo which was very tasty. The sardines were great too. For our meal, we had the sea bass and scallops, both were good however I found them very salty. I could barely finish my entree due to the heavy salt. We did take home the citrus olive oil cake which was very good.

Had a great time, Bar tender gave us all the details on their exquisite flights. 3 flights for $90, but when i tell you these are STRONG! good luck. We tried a little bit of everything, had some caviar and pawns for the starters. Then for the main we the snapper which was amazing! and 2 more other dishes. i forgot the name but the Snapper was the star of the night. ended up spending $532, plus $150 tip to our excellent waiter. They take care of you and give you clean utensils after every plate. I felt like the King i am. Tables were comfortable and very intimate. Will be back soon. Ciao!

I had been waiting to come here since it opened, but the pandemic made it so I had to wait even longer. But wow, this did not disappoint. I even think the food here is better than Vernick. We came here to celebrate my husband's promotion, and I had told the restaurant about this beforehand and they greeted us with some champagne to start! Their drinks were really good and strong. We ordered martinis to go with our oysters to start. The pasta appetizer special we got was absolutely delicious and my fish dish was so good and fresh! The vegetable sides of mushrooms and potatoes we got were also great!

We had a very special birthday lunch here - so disappointed- since the pandemic I try not to leave bad reviews but I just spent more than 150 on a poor quality meal for 2 - lunchtime not dinner and left hungry - the service was especially bad - we went elsewhere for a dessert and coffee- not worth the time or money.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful space, not loud, on the nicer side.
I came here for a birthday dinner. It's good for up to smaller groups. Food was delicious and drinks didn't disappoint. The staff was polite. If you like the menu, check it out!

I give this restaurant 5 stars for everything except noise level, and it was because of the music. To have Santana playing loudly in that setting was not good. The food, service and ambiance was top notch but the music was horrible. They need to play something softer.

Vernick redeemed itself with Vernick Fish after an underwhelming experience at Vernick food and drink. We ordered the tuna tartare, which was really fresh and well seasoned in a perfectly crispy charcoaled bread. The octopus was well seasoned and tender, the seabass and branzino was flaky, tender and flavorful. The potato side was perfectly cooked in that it was crispy on the outside and fluffy/creamy on the inside. the broccolini was also very well cooked and well seasoned.
Be the first to ReplyThe food at Vernick Fish is a dream! I had a birthday
The food at Vernick Fish is a dream! I had a birthday dinner here and it was everything I wanted and more. All of the dishes were so tasty, but the tuna tartare was elite and the best of the evening by far. It's served on their house made bread which is surprisingly soft with the perfect amount of char. The tuna itself was marinated, flavorful, and fresh. The sea urchin, sesame, chili pepper, and green onion made every bite bold and exciting to eat. Can't say enough good things about it. The octopus was probably the most tender I've ever had! The broiled oysters were little crispy 'nduja flavor bombs. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked and offered some nice acidity and sweetness. The potato rösti was textbook with lots of richness from the truffle and béarnaise. The yellowtail was subtle, but very fresh. The little chocolate cookie they serve with the espresso was delightful. It was so chocolatey, buttery, and salty, I loved it. The coconut and passionfruit tart was the best dessert I've had in a while! It wasn't too sweet, which is hard to find in the US. If you like passionfruit and coconut, I definitely recommend it. The cranberry sorbet was lovely and acidic and a great end to the meal. I thought the drinks were nice! The scotch drink was my favorite. The service was good, especially the bussers who were super efficient. The staff didn't rush us at all and spaced the dishes perfectly. It's a nice restaurant inside - it's in a hotel so it has that vibe, but it's big and open with lots of windows and a bar area where you can watch the chefs work. If you want good seafood in Philly, head to Vernick Fish! And get the tuna tartare :)
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner, strong drinks, lovely decor.
Our table was ready when we arrived but we were early so started with cocktails in the bar area. A little sharp but good. The wine was perfect. The menu looked great. We ordered the sea bream crudo, red snapper ceviche, and broiled oysters to start, all fresh, flavorful, and nicely plated. I especially liked the oyster shaped vessel. Honestly, I could just order all crudo for the night. For entrees, I ordered the scallops and my husband got the black sea bass. We usually switch halfway so we can try more, but I was enjoying my scallops so much I didn't leave him as much, oops! For dessert, the cake was good, I felt the rice krispies ice cream was lacking flavor, but it wasn't bad, and I can't remember the other flavor but good too. Next time we may just order a scoop of each flavor. I think ice cream may be the new dessert for me.It is a pricey meal, but seafood generally costs more and it was quality seafood. The service was good but I think reaching over booth seating to serve is awkward for the guests, so didn't think that should be a table for 4 with a chair on opposite side. Overall, it was a great time and we would go back. It's a nice space for date night.Definitely go check out the view from the rooftop bar after dinner. The restaurant is inside the hotel.
Be the first to ReplyVernick Fish is a fantastic dining experience in
Vernick Fish is a fantastic dining experience in Philadelphia. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you are greeted with a modern and upscale ambiance that sets the tone for a memorable meal. The service is attentive and friendly, making sure you have everything you need throughout your visit. The menu at Vernick Fish focuses on seafood, and they do not disappoint. We started our meal with the Sardines and Sourdough, which were great. However, the sourdough bread was a bit too burnt and too harsh of a contrast to the unctuous sardines. We sent this dish back. The Tuna Tartare with Sea Urchin on Sourdough was a standout dish, with the tuna having a wonderful mouthfeel and the sea urchin lending a great umami flavor to the mix. Although the sourdough bread was once again burnt, it wasn't to the same degree as with the sardines and thus did not detract as harshly from the overall deliciousness.Next up was the Endive and Baby Gem Salad, which was beautifully presented and had a great tarragon vinaigrette that tied the dish together. The acidity in the vinaigrette truly made the dish shine. The Grilled Octopus was another standout dish, with the presentation being beautiful and the octopus being wonderfully tender and accompanied by a mint salsa verde, fennel, and citrus. It was a satisfying yet light dish. The Grilled Black Sea Bass was absolutely wonderful, with the royal red shrimp at the perfect temperature, accompanied by Swiss chard and a shellfish bisque that had a rich flavor. Although the fish was lightly torched, it was not necessary as the Swiss chard already introduced the bitter element without it being overpowering. For dessert, we started with the Orange Basque Cheesecake, which was wonderfully fluffy and not overly sweet. It came with a raspberry compote that felt a little too sour in contrast to the cake, but the cake was perfectly delicious on its own. The Chocolate Sorbet was a great end to the meal, with a rich deep chocolate flavor. We requested some fleur de sel to sprinkle on top to accentuate the chocolate even more.In conclusion, Vernick Fish is a fantastic restaurant with high-quality food, attentive service, and an upscale ambiance. The only note here is that perhaps some of the dishes could benefit from being workshopped a bit, such as a lighter hand with the broiler or torching, or a less sour compote to accompany the cheesecake. These are all minor fixes that would make this place shine even more. Overall, I would highly recommend Vernick Fish for anyone looking for a great seafood dining experience in Philadelphia.

Nothing mind blowing. But I will for sure go back again. Obviously very busy. And get the burnt honey ice cream.

Excellent food and service ! The hostesses were incredible! When we first came, plan was to go to JG Skyhigh first for a drink since it's a Wed night we thought no issue. The receptionist told us we couldn't go up there. We came to Vernick Fish and said we were an hour early for our rezzie bc we couldn't get a drink at JG Skyhigh- they called up and said no problem! It was great to have a pre dinner drink and check out the views so lovely of the hostesses to call! They gave us free champagne and a little dessert to celebrate our anniversary. Food was incredible. My favorite was the tuna tartare. Usually I don't like burnt bread but the flavoring went so well! We also had the fluke ceviche (they didn't have red snapper which was on the menu) which was good. I really enjoyed my scallops. My husband liked his swordfish although I thought it was less inspiring then the scallops. Potato crossti was good, not overpowering with the truffles. Bread they gave was underwhelming. I would go back and get the tuna tartare in a heartbeat. Overall delicious meal and great experience for our anniversary !
Be the first to ReplyI absolutely love this place.
Everything about it gets 5 stars. Food: Service: Drinks: Atmosphere: If you need a special evening out, give this restaurant a go.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here for dinner on a Thursday night.
The restaurant was gorgeous and the service was very good.We got the yellowtail crudo, spicy tuna tagliatelle, panko fish and scallops to share between the two of us. This was more than enough food. Each dish was yummier than the last and we had a hard time deciding what our favorite was. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs at the beginning of the meal and we had wanted to order dessert but alas we will have to try something next time we come. The cocktails are great, I got the stormy night bourbon cocktail that was very strong but not too sweet. My fiancé got the milk punch cocktail which came out looking like a mojito... it was super cool! The look of it versus the taste of it was very unexpected. We look forward to coming again when their menu changes to try something new.

Everything we ordered impressed us - creative, fresh, delicious! The ambiance was gorgeous and impeccable. Every staff member we interacted with was professional, friendly, and efficient. It was relatively expensive (more than $110 per person), but well worth it given the quality of dining experience. One of the top restaurants in Philadelphia.

*HIGHLY RECOMMEND*This was the first of the restaurants run by Chef Vernick that I have been to and I had high expectations going in and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is definitely on the more upscale, fancier side. This is definitely a great place for a date or any special occasion. The menu is split into four sections: raw, small plates, large plates, and desserts, with a handful amount of selection. For two people we ordered one raw, two smalls, and two larges and that was perfect. All the seafood we ordered were so fresh, definitely of the highest quality. I was disappointed with their grilled black sea bass but everything else made up for it. The service was also amazing, food came out fairly fast, one after another was finished. Overall, one of the best restaurants I've been to in Philly, but be prepared to spend the money *DINNER*Snapper ceviche - GET THIS! BEST ceviche I've ever had. The snapper was super fresh, very tender. And the sauce was the best part. Sour, savory, and refreshing. They make this sauce in the house and apparently it's a very complex process, no wonder it taste that great. Octopus Carpaccio - savory, reminds me of cured meat for charcuterie but with octopus. I loved the mini chorizo on top, gives it a good spice kick.ramón peña sardines & sourdough - the bread was soooo soft and fluffy, and the sardines not too salty. The oil from it drips thought the bread making it taste so good with every bitegrilled black sea bass - The bass was super tender, I loved the texture and the taste. However, I was not a fan of the kimchi stew. I don't think the kimchi they used were that fermented or spicy enough and the stew not enough umami. Only dish i was disappointed in. mushroom-crusted fluke - I love the crispy exterior and tender interior. Vernick knows how to cook their fish. It's so unique that they used mushroom to coat the fish. The sauce was also very good, sweet, savory, a bit tart. *VERDICT*Would definitely go back again for special occasion :)

Great service. Fresh fish. Small portions and expensive but worth the visit. Parking sucks in that area
Be the first to ReplyThis is my first time dining at Vernick Fish.
It's a good experience. The service is 10 out 10. The food ingredients are fresh and high quality. I take out 1 star because the food was on the salty side. The ceviche, tuna tartare and the grilled fish were pretty salty to me. I wish they used a little less salt. Everything else is awesome though. I would definitely come back with my friends.
Be the first to ReplyI try to really pride myself in not just hanging out 5 star
I try to really pride myself in not just hanging out 5 star reviews - but Vernick Fish is a NO BRAINER! I won't even be able to truly encapsulate the entire experience in words, but I will try to bring to light the greatest highlights. Service - this can dramatically enhance your dining experience, and we were treated to absolutely top-notch service throughout our dinner. Our waitress was engaging, polite, educational, fun, and on point. All night. Not even with just us, we watched her with other guests, and she was an absolute pro. Really was helpful guiding us through the menu and provided accommodations for the vegetarian at our table.Ambiance - incredible. High lofted ceilings, with modern/industrial light fixtures. Floor to ceiling windows, and a cool, detailed feature behind their chef's counter is a collection of green & blue subway tiles on the wall that is designed to almost look like a school of fish. It was very spacious and the chairs and tables were comfortable to get settled in for a memorable meal. Not to mention, the music was an absolute vibe - smooth yacht rock paired perfectly with the sea-centric menu offerings.Food - what an experience! Everything was prepared perfectly. We started with their broiled 'oysters philadelphia,' which was a great shared plate. Served warm, and had a rich texture with salty/creamy notes from the provolone and salami wrapped around it. Lighter dish, so would recommend another appetizer if you are with a larger party or really hungry. I personally had the blackened grouper, which was light and flaky. It was the perfect vessel for their creamy grits and creole hot sauce - as the fish kept its texture but soaked up all of the great flavors. The standout side in my opinion was their hasselback potato. Their creme fraiche sauce & horseradish flavors stole the show, but for a heartier side, the fresh chives gave it that nice herbal tone to keep it feeling relatively light. We ended the dinner with their coconut cream pie, and I would be hard-pressed to believe you can find one much better than this anywhere else in the city. Light and fluffy, with a sweet and crumby crust. It was an excellent ending to the entire meal. Whether you are looking to just treat yourself or go out for a celebration - Vernick Fish is more than well suited to meet your needs.
