Verōnika New York Reviews from The Last Year
Beautiful space, wonderful dinner experience
We had a wonderful dinner experience. Started the evening at the bar with a round of some fine cocktails. Service was on point and the wine menu is impressive. We will be back.
A complete over statement. Waste of time and money
The ambiance is fine, the quality of the food is well below average for a restaurant of this “level”. The waiter was not properly trained, she mentioned how the dishes were prepared and the reality was totally different. She had no idea whatsoever….but she was nice The wine list was extremely poor. The service very disorganized as they did not know who ordered what and they were putting plates on the table It may be a trendy restaurant because of the ambiance but it is not a good restaurant based on the quality of the food, service and selection A complete disappointment
Thanksgiving Dinner At Verōnika: No Thanks.
For Thanksgiving, 2023, I was in New York to support a wonderful charity, and took my family to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning. Since we were away from home, we made reservations for the special, prix fixe 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 at Verōnika. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐬 • Served in a beautiful setting. I was sitting at the end of a rectangular table with a central leg, making my place a little uncomfortable, but that's sometimes just the way furniture is built. • All the staff were extremely personable and friendly. From the doorman, to the hostesses to the coat check to the wait staff, everybody wished us a happy holiday and went out of their way to make us feel welcome . • The dishes, and the way food was presented on them were a delight to the eyes. • The smell of the food was wonderful. • The homemade croissants were exceptional. I truly wish there had been more. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬 • Pretty much everything else, though I did not taste the 𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘭 𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴 that my wife ordered. • The “𝘊𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵 𝘚𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘴𝘩 𝘎𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘱” was the next best thing any of us tried after the croissants, but I was the only one who finished a bowl. • After the disappointing starters (some ordered the “𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘮 𝘙𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘪 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘮é”), there was well over half an hour between the time our soup dishes were cleared and our main course arrived. By that time, to my sorrow, everybody was frustrated, with some scrolling on their phones. Notably, this was the last seating of the evening and there were many empty tables; The problem was not the crowds. There was a high server-to-guests ratio as waiters stood around with nothing to do, but ready to instantly respond to any patrons seeking assistance. • Between the five of us, we tried two of the three offered entrees (nobody was inclined to test the “𝘝𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘺" on Thanksgiving). The “𝘍𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘏𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘮 𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘺” was very, very dry and had a grainy feel, like ice cream that had accidentally thawed and been re-frozen. The "𝘌𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘵 𝘊𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘓𝘢𝘮𝘣" somehow had the same unpleasant texture. Nobody finished their main course. Perhaps my son captured some of the experience without being precise when he said, "Everything tasted like liver." • The brownish block titled "𝘈𝘭𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘨" and the cube of "𝘗𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯" were a cross between a high end cafeteria and the solid attempt prepared with the limited tools that one would appreciate on a long haul commercial flight in business class. • Our original waitress had ended her shift, and 10 minutes after the entree dishes were cleared, her replacement graciously and apologetically said that our dessert orders had not been recorded for her, so she took them again. 15 minutes after that (again, nearly half an hour after the prior dishes had been taken away), the final course arrived. The "𝘗𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘗𝘪𝘦 𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘦" was the best, and with five people at the table, half of the one slice that had been ordered was left on the plate. The "𝘙𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘊𝘢𝘬𝘦" was a very thick layer of toasted meringue over concentrated sugar in a raspberry filling and nothing but the thinnest layer of anything that could be called cake; It was beautiful to look at, but not very appetizing. The "𝘝𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘬𝘦" was admittedly a gamble, but we lost that bet, though one of my daughters enjoyed the ribbon of chocolate decorating the top. • I am sincerely awed at the bartender’s ability to screw up a 𝘳𝘶𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘬𝘦. I asked specifically for 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯'𝘴 if they had it. He or she elected to substitute 𝘉𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘭 𝘈ñ𝘦𝘫𝘰 and made it so strong that it could almost be described as a glass of rum over ice with a heavy splash or two of cola. Perhaps the excess of alcohol justified the nearly $20 charge, but it was largely undrinkable. More to the point, it was not what I ordered. I have had many meals in many restaurants in Manhattan. I have occasionally tried something that I was not sure I would like, and sometimes it was not appealing to me, but that is the nature of trying new things. In this case, we thought we knew what to expect. I can say without equivocation that this was the most disappointing meal I have ever had in a New York restaurant. To be fair to the chef and kitchen staff, this was a special menu for one night, and it is entirely possible that it is not a fair representation of what they serve over the rest of the year. TLDR version: Six, really great, homemade croissants for almost $1,000 accompanied by a beautiful display of other dishes that were not very enjoyable. I could not bring myself to leave a small tip because the serving staff did their very best work with what they had and were unwaveringly likable. We left Verōnica's Thanksgiving Dinner unsatisfied. Not much was open for walk-in business in Manhattan late on Thanksgiving night. Fortunately, we still had some food in our hotel room.
High Class Dining - Great!
An amazing establishment! My wife and I were treated with stellar service. From the moment we arrived to the completion of desert our every need was attended to. The bartenders were skilled and friendly, the wait staff very professional and classy. It was a great experience and ambiance, food was perfect. Highly recommended.
Lousy lazy service, excellent beef
Nice interior, great bar and restaurant. Hip and trendy. The beef was absoluut exellent. The waiters were more busy with themselves than giving service. Chatting with eachother between the tables, forgot to bring the coffee and drinking wine by themselves. Big contrast with the food, which was very tastefull.
The worst bar experience I’ve ever come across
I made a reservation at this bar, when I arrived I was told to stand in the bar with a menu while they sorted my table. 15 minutes later I heard the bar staff say it was last orders. I went back out to the reception to enquire about our table and I was told the hostess had GONE HOME and nobody was looking after us. One of the other staff realised there was a big mistake here and told us he would sort us out. Without telling us where we were going, he brought us out of the bar on to the street to a DIFFERENT BAR. What an absolute joke. On top of that they charged us the no show fee and took $100 out of my account. I also emailed them twice about this and noone got back to me. Bar is small and not impressive in real life so it wasn’t a massife shame we didn’t go there in the end but the worst bar experience I’ve ever come across.
Amazing experience
I thoroughly enjoyed dinner here at Veronika with five colleagues on a recent Wednesday evening. The dining room is absolutely stunning, service was warm and friendly, the acoustics were perfect for conversation, and the food was fabulous. Our table loved the lobster omelette, the flank steak, the schnitzel, the herbed tuna, oysters, and beef tartare. If you’re near Madison Park, I strongly encourage you to check this place out!
My ears are still ringing
Yes, it’s a pretty room and the staff are nice, that’s where it ends. Seated a half hour after reservation while waiting in a claustrophobic crowded bar being banged into. The music was deafening, I mean bass thumping in my chest with no chance for conversation. The food was ok but took an inordinately long time to come out. Miserable! Never ever again.
