Perfect spot for catching up with friends, date night, or
Perfect spot for catching up with friends, date night, or small celebrations! Came by with a good friend on a Tuesday night, & we were super satisfied with the food and ambiance at Wayan! Reservations are highly recommended - it filled up quickly even on a Tuesday. Our waitress recommended about 2-3 plates per person, so we decided on the pork satay, escargot rendang, octopus a la plancha, and lobster noodles. This was really the perfect amount of food for the 2 of us. The pork satay comes with 5 skewers and was really tasty. Picklrd radish and kecap manis made for the perfect pairing with the pork. Octopus was tasty as well, and the sweet chili sauce that it comes with had flavors that reminded me of tom yum. Escargot rendang was the one that I looked forward to but was a bit disappointed by. The lobster noodles were definitely my favorite of the night - highly recommend getting this! Wavy noodles were accompanied by healthy portions of lobster and a really delicious black pepper butter sauce. The drinks here are SO strong which also explains why they're on the pricier side. We couldn't finish our drinks - half was more than enough. Desserts here are a MUST. Get the pandan custard!! It is so silky & smooth, & the passionfruit provides the perfect tartness. We also really enjoyed the banana sundae and the ube ice cream that comes with it. Wayan is definitely a bit on the pricey side considering the portion sizes. Our bill came out to ~$210 after tax and tip. But it's worth a try!
Be the first to ReplyWow!! Such an enjoyable experience here.
Pro tip to make reservations (pro tip for the rest of NY restaurants in general). Ambiance is intimate, small groups under 4 fits comfortably. Shared dishes/family style. Small portions are 100% worth it. 3 meat skewers - lamb, shrimp, scallops. Every bite paired with the sauces were enjoyable. Lobster Noodles - WOW!! The spices with the consistency of noodles- just wow. Ribs - best part of the night. Meat slides right off the bone. Sauce was perfect pairing. Server was awesome. The whole team checked in on us several times through the dinner.
Be the first to ReplyI had high expectations for this restaurant, and I won't
I had high expectations for this restaurant, and I won't say that it disappointed, but it it wasn't all that great for the price point. I had a party of 9 and it totaled around $160 per person - although there was a very hefty amount of food, the overall experience was not worth the price. Our servers barely spoke and there was slight miscommunication at serval points. Our food was also very oddly paced - we would go 30-40 minutes without food then all of a sudden 3 main course would come out back to back. The pork ribs and octopus lack flavor but are cooked pretty well otherwise. Wouldn't recommend the pork or lamb satays, they were quite dry. The yellowtail tartare is very fresh with floral notes, which is pretty unique and enjoyable. The lobster noodles are very flavorful and the corn fritters are very crispy and well made. Would absolutely recommend the banana sundae and the passion fruit pandan custard - definitely were highlights of the meal and i would probably buy them separately if I could. Love the atmosphere of the restaurant! Very ambient with beautiful Indonesian inspired decor.

Fun ambiance, beautiful decor, great service, and a unique Asian fusion that I have never experienced before. This is a restaurant that I highly recommend going to but be sure to make reservations in advance! My friends and I ordered an array of food to share. Not one thing went to waste! We ordered the Hiramasa sashimi, pomelo and cucumber salad, lobster noodles, peekytoe crab fried rice, crescent duck, layered cabbage, and pandan custard with a scoop of ube ice cream. The dishes I would order again were the sashimi, lobster noodles, and duck! Chefs kiss and I wouldn't change a single thing. The drinks were very unique with a fun twist on an Asian cocktail. I will definitely return and visit the sister restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyThe ambience was very cozy, even outdoors on a cold winter
The ambience was very cozy, even outdoors on a cold winter day. The servers did their best to help us feel warm, including moving some space heaters closer to us when other tables weren't occupied. However, it would have been even nicer if they had had more or larger space heaters to begin with. Food was small portioned for the price, but all very delicious. The standout of the night were the lobster noodles --it was a huge hit with everyone at the table and I would go back again just for that dish. Other solid dishes we ordered: - Cauliflower plate - Chicken satays - Avocado salad starter - Steamed black bass - Layered cabbage (this wasn't my favorite since it was a bit sour, but still solid and a top favorite for others at the table)
Be the first to Replymy favorites were the sea bass and the lobster noodles.
they were so good, and i am still craving them. everything was really good though, and i thought it was an interesting combo (french and indonesian). it is a little more on the expensive side though
Be the first to ReplyOh how a miss this was.
Maybe the vibes were off, maybe it was me, but this was not it. The only good things about this night was the waitress! She was spot on! Where do I start. I made this reservation a month ago. I received a text to confirm my reservation and then following that I was told we were going to have to sit outside. Okay, fine, however their set-up in this winter was not up to par. I was sat right next to the door, so they kept opening it up, making the whole night very uncomfortable. We were freezing!! It was like I was in the tundra. Our silverware was so cold, that it made our food cold/unpleasant to eat. The grouped too many people in a small tent, with no heat, no space to put their belongings, and small kid seats lol. Every single person asked if they could move tables and they were told that only reservations had inside seating. Weird, because I had one... Now with the food. We started the two satays. The chickpea and scallops. The chickpea looked like a churro, but reminded me of a tamale. This was honestly pretty good. The scallop was fine, kinda felt a little undercooked, but the sauce was really good. We also got the Nasi Goreng (rice) and the corn fritters. Probably the safest thing on the menu, pretty good. I must say that the corn is a must have! As our mains we both opted for the noodles, lobster/veggie (not on the menu). If i'm going to be honest, the noodles weren't my favorite. Both were just fine. Ultimately our meal wasn't very satisfying and we were left hungry after. For dessert, we choose the Padan Custard. Now that was bomb. Will I be back... no. Pretty pricey and very underwhelming.

An amazing drink menu with unique delicious drinks!
Be the first to ReplyVery chic ambiance and an innovative way to enjoy
Very chic ambiance and an innovative way to enjoy Indonesian cuisine. Went here with some friends and had a great time. Drinks were over priced but tasty. Food is all SHARABLE. Please do not make the mistake of ordering one time per person this is family style. All the food is very rich and heavy. Service is quick but has the vibe of a nice long dinner. A bit too loud for a date spot unless you reserve a corner table. There always is a wait so make sure to make a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyOh what a fantastic spot! Loved everything.
We enjoyed our cocktails (especially the Kopi), devoured the small plates (the Gabo Gabo is a must), melted over the large plates (lobster noddles were *chef's kiss), and ate every last bite of our sides (gotta try the Brussel Sprouts). I recommend sitting at the Chef's counter to watch the fantastic staff work their magic, and enjoy the beautifully designed space. I went for brunch, will definitely be back for dinner.
Be the first to ReplyI still dream of this place.
Food is phenomenal. Each bite is unique and memorable. Absolutely recommend visiting.
Be the first to ReplyOverall it was a nice experience.
We really liked the cocktail Kopi (tequila, espresso & coconut milk). Food was all tasty but a bit salty for me.

5 stars across the board okay!!! AMBIANCE! FOOD! SERVICE! I came here on a whim in the rain for a very last minute date night.. and it was totally worth it. We got the satay platter with scallops, chicken and beef ( you're only allowed 3 satays on the platter) so we got lamb satays on the side. My fav out of the 4 were the scallops and chicken but they all were delicious. It was my first time trying lamb (late I know)We got the corn fritters, so sweet and delicious, nothing like it imagined.. I thought it would be heavily battered where you could hardly detect the corn but it wasn't.. it was crunchy and sweet. He got the octopus and I tasted it (also my first time trying octopus) and let's just say I'll be trying it again, it did not like flavor and it wasn't super chewy as I imagined. We both got the lobster noodles, it was giving ramen & a little too wet but flavor was off the hook, it has a little kick to it, hearty chunks of lobster topped with cilantro and scallions *chefs kisses* I can't wait to return here when it's warm with my friends.. it's so cute and I love soho. 5/5 taste5/5 service5/5 portion3/5 priceI recently visited Wayan, and I must say that it was an amazing experience. As a seafood lover, I was thrilled to find out that their seafood ingredient dishes tasted perfect. The flavors were exquisite, and the ingredients were so fresh that they practically melted in my mouth. But that's not all - the pork ribs were simply phenomenal. They were cooked to perfection and were so tender that they fell apart with no effort. The combination of spices and seasoning used in the dish made it even more irresistible. The only thing that was slightly underwhelming was the bread, which was good but the least interesting part of the meal. However, this is a minor complaint, as the main dishes and desserts more than made up for it.Speaking of desserts, they were equally amazing. The flavors and textures of the desserts were beyond words. And to top it all off, they gave us a complimentary lime pie for my friend's birthday! This was such a sweet gesture and made the evening even more special.I must warn you, however, that the menu is quite pricey, and the portion sizes are on the smaller side. You may need to order multiple dishes per person to feel fully satisfied. But trust me, the taste and quality of the food make it worth the splurge.Overall, I would highly recommend Wayan to anyone who is looking for an incredible dining experience. The food is exceptional, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is welcoming and cozy. I will definitely be back soon!

A must visit! Wyan was top on my list for sometime and it over delivered. Every dish had incredible flavour and was the perfect size for sharing. Service was fantastic. Excellent cocktails. Fun atmosphere. Our guests loved their experience too. Already looking forward to my next visit. Food was so good I only remembered to take photos at dessert. (You must order the passion fruit one)
Be the first to ReplyA Flavorful and Fun Night.
The Food: The menu at Wayan combines French-Indonesian cuisine that is full of flavor and creativity. We were shocked by all the unique dishes. We ordered Chickpea Skewers, Sashimi, Pomelo Salad, Lobster Noodles, Pork Rib, Corn Fritters, and a Banana Sundae for dessert. The presentation is also stunning; each dish looks as good as it tastes. I'd recommend every single dish we ordered. The Vibe: What really sets Wayan apart is its atmosphere. The decor is modern and not overdone, making it ideal for both date nights and dinners with friends. We loved the playlist, service, and energy.

I have vivid memories of the flavors and just how satisfying the food is here. I sat at the bar with my sister, just as the restaurant opened on a rainy day. The host was so accommodating given all the reservations, but with the two of us arriving so early, it worked out.We had the corn fritters, lobster noodles and a few cocktails between us. As I sit here writing this review, my mouth is watering at the memory of those noodles. What amazing noodles! This place is such a vibe, and reminds me of my time in Bali. Their playlist is just the best and is so nostalgic for my 90s faves. The service is on point, steady and just the right amount of check-in with guests. Worth the $$$$ price. I plan to sit the Chef's counter my next visit.

Our second visit and we were anxious to try the ribs and the chicken wings. During our first visit they were out of both. First, the Chicken Wing Balado. The wings were very small and were coated with a balado paste which is a Sumatran chili. The chicken was fine but the balado paste had an off putting texture which took something away from the dish. The accompanying hard boiled eggs were a bit overdone and didn't seem necessary. The Crisp Pork Ribs were coated with a Soy Tamarind Glaze, Sesame Seeds & Urfa Biber which is a Turkish chili pepper. The coating's were good but the ribs were over cooked. Overall, we had a great experience because the other dishes we had were really good.
Be the first to ReplyProbably more like a 3.
8 stars if I could rate in increments. Not bad but also didn't make me think "wow, I NEED to come again!". Standouts for me were the lobster noodles, ribs, and ube ice cream. The restaurant has an intimate vibe to it and is a great place to catch up with a friend over food and drinks. I would come back again if any of my other friends want to check it out.

Ambiance (4/5): Despite making a reservation, we were still stuck dining in their outside enclosure. Although they have a heater in there, it was very cold. The interior of the restaurant is ornate and wonderfully decorated.Service (4/5): Since we were the only patrons outside, the waiter came to check on us a little less often. When asked for recommendations, the waiter was patient and explained which were fan favorites. The staff recommended family style ordering.Food:Satay (4/5): We got a sampling of 3 satays including lamb, scallop, and beef. All three were nicely seasoned and cooked to perfection. The price point may be a bit steep for what you're getting though.Octopus a La Plancha (3/5): The octopus was slightly overcooked but the seasoning was unique and tasty. I'm glad I tried it but would not get this dish again. Lobster Noodles (4/5): Lots of lobster chunks and great flavoring! The sauce was thick and creamy but as soon as the noodles were a bit cold, everything congealed together. Perhaps it was due to sitting outside... However, this was my favorite dish of the evening. Overall (3/5): I thought all the dishes had a unique flavor but unfortunately the price point did not make this a lasting impression for me to want to come back again. I could see two grown men wanting much more than the 3 dishes we ordered and still be hungry. If I dined here again, I would order all different dishes to try the different tastes.
Be the first to ReplyFood wasn't worth the price paid.
Lobster noodles and crab fried rice were good but both had limited pieces of meat. Each plate was $30+ and was barely enough of a portion size for two people to share.Layout of indoor restaurant is awkward. I understand they wanted to cram in as much seating as possible, but they could really have left some space in the front of the restaurant. They sat us at a table literally in front of the entrance. Really hurt the ambiance feeling every draft from the door opening or suddenly having a group of people standing right behind you waiting to be seated.Service was lacking, not very attentive.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a tough one.
The food was interesting, delicious and nicely presented - all of this set in a lovely professionally designed room. And an attentive and caring server to boot! But here's the rub. We (a party of three), were running late for our 6:00 reservation because of an accident blocking two lanes on the approach to the Midtown Tunnel. We called the restaurant and explained the situation and would arrive at 6:10, this according to our nav. The woman answering the phone tells us that they will hold the table for 15 minutes, after that it will have to be given away, instead of saying thanks for the call, see you soon. We arrive exactly at 6:10, and are then told by the hostess (presumably the same person) that our reservation and table will only available for our use until 8:15! I don't think I've ever been told in all my years of dining out, as I walked into a restaurant, how long I had the table for before I'd have to vacate. This really rude we-have-all-the-business-we-need attitude was so offputting that it made us think twice about returning to this restaurant. Not sure if this Jean-Georges offspring establishment has such a rigid policy, or was this simply an employee going overboard - I think it's policy.

When people ask me what are my top restaurant's I'd recommend in the city, Wayan holds one of the top spots. I've only been here to dine once, as a friend was in town and we were able to snag a resy for 3 at the last minute and this establishment had been on my wishlist for awhile. Wow, it truly did not disappoint. Let's start with food. The flavor profiles here are so complex and unique. The dishes they serve here are truly unlike anything I've had before. I love fusion places, and this spot only further illuminates that. Here's what we ordered:- Vegetable Spring rolls: comes with two, deliciously crispy and paired with delicate dipping sauce- Ceviche: super refreshing and light- Lobster Noodles: I dream of this dish. This is a MUST order when coming here. The noddles and coated in sauce and there are large chunks of lobster distributed throughout. A very elegant, well thought out dish.- Pork Rib: a meat-falling-off the bone type of dish. Very tender and very strong taste. This is cooked to perfection. Another must order IMO.- Nasi Goreng: out of everything we ordered this was the least impressive, which is funny because it was still very delicious. I think the flavor was pretty decent and it's nice that there is a fried egg on top, but this is a dish that you could skip. - Corn Fritters: We ordered this simply because everyone online raves about it! It was definitely interesting and worth trying. Not my personal favorite, but I would eat it again if given the chance!- Chocolate Ganache: I was blown away by the avocado ice cream. Super rich and creamy, not overly sweet, literal perfection on a plate. I also really enjoyed the rich chocolate spread. A great way to end the meal. We all enjoyed our cocktails as well.Service was pretty good. Interior is stunning and elegant. A lovely place to get dressed up and to enjoy a food tasting experience. I can't wait to come back and sit at the Chef's counter. 5/5

Great and friendly service.Food, The food was delicious but would love if they gave slightly more especially if you sharing.Overall great experience however be ready to pay $$$
Be the first to ReplyFood was great.
Why only give it 3 stars? Well, while the food was new, unique and delicious, the price was not worth it! Our waitress recommended that EACH person order a small plate, a large plate and a side for it to be filling enough. That total costs at least $60 per person... So if you're looking to spend a lot of money for small portions... this would be the place to go.I have to admit the food tasted like things I've never had before. We ordered a bunch of small, large plates and a few cocktails (+tip costs over $500 for 6 people). The octopus small plate and the lobster noodle large plate stood out the most to me. The octopus dish was not chewy at all; it was soft and tender. The lobster noodles had a thick sauce that was unique and paired well with the lobster. I would also recommend their escargot because of its quality. We also ordered satays (3 skewers for $36...) and the lamb tasted the best. The crab fried rice was too salty. The crispy pork ribs were good but small portioned. The duck hash tasted like an average potato hash dish at a brunch place. The ceviche and the spring rolls were yummy but veeerrrry small portioned. Overall, the restaurant does a good job executing a blend of French and Indonesian flavors, but it was not worth the hefty price tag.
