Wenwen Brooklyn Reviews from The Last Year
Wenwen more like when when am I gonna get my food am I
Wenwen more like when when am I gonna get my food am I right . The food was pretty good but the service was moderately ass. I enjoyed the ambiance but I had to wait too long for my food so I got bored.
I fundamentally am not a huge brunch person, but Wenwen
I fundamentally am not a huge brunch person, but Wenwen brunch has been on my radar for quite a while so when a friend was visiting from out of town and we needed a brunch spot, I seized the opportunity to give it a shot. We were a group of four and I would honestly recommend going with more than two people so that you can mix/match and share some small plates. We did some Taiwanese beer accompanied by the cold sesame noodles, BDSM chicken sandwich, cucumbers, popcorn chicken, pork belly over rice (don't quite know the name of the dish now). Everything was truly delicious, but they definitely are known for their chicken for good reason. Would highly recommend at least one fried chicken option while you are here. Oh, and I should definitely note that the bathroom slayed with its little disco ball and dancey music :)
Had a fine but unmemorable meal here.
Perhaps it's because I didn't order the best items, but none of the dishes I had I felt were either that creative or better than the original dish it was inspired by. We got: Dongbei salad - This was fine but pretty standard, and I prefer when the tofu noodles are slightly softer. Would try the celtuce salad instead next time. Tater Tot Dan Bing - tbh I think I liked Dan Bing more without the tater tot than with tater tot. Still tasty but not a twist that I think elevated the dish.
First time here.

The hype around Wenwen has died down a little, which means
The hype around Wenwen has died down a little, which means it's a bit easier to get one of the limited-to-5-per-day first-come-first-serve BDSM chickens now. We were the first party at 5pm on a weekday but based on our visit I'd say you'd have a solid chance arriving at 5:30 or even 6pm on a weekday and scoring one. The chicken didn't disappoint - it was juicy, crisp, and intensely flavorful, a really creative take on fried chicken. Was it worth $62? I wouldn't be clamoring to come back for it, but if a group of friends wanted to come again and split one I also wouldn't be opposed. Other dishes were enjoyable as well - good luroufan is so surprisingly hard to find in NYC that Wenwen's $18 "lo ba beng" version seems like a good find. I also enjoyed the diced shrimp-and-youtiao lettuce cups, although it came with 6-7 small romaine lettuce leaves, not nearly enough to use up all the filling, and the waitress said it would be $5 more for an extra order (of raw romaine lettuce leaves). Seriously? I do actually like that there's only one dessert option - they know it's a winner. If you come to Wenwen, just get the fried tangyuan dessert.
Really solid Taiwanese spot in Greenpoint by the owners of
Really solid Taiwanese spot in Greenpoint by the owners of 886. The place was very busy on a Friday night. We had a 7pm reservation, but apparently our table was occupied and we couldn't actually sit down until 7:30pm, which kind of defeats the purpose of getting a reservation in advance. We ordered the crispy tofu appetizer, which was good to start with. The tofu was coated with "Taiwan Dust" and the garlic soy paste dipping sauce added a lot of flavor. We also ordered the fried rice and the beef fat chili oil noodle, which we enjoyed, but while the fried rice was yummy it wasn't particularly amazing for $18. The noodles were also good - very flavorful and vinegary, but the beef was a little hard to chew, and the noodles themselves were way too long so it was hard to eat family style. Overall really good flavors, but it is a bit of a trek to get out there. This place has been on my list for a while so I'm glad I got to go, but personally I enjoyed Win Son more!
Good place to try out if you're interested in trying out
Good place to try out if you're interested in trying out Taiwanese food in Greenpoint area. I came here with a party of 3 and we ordered a few dishes to try - the BDSM chicken, crispy tofu, peashoots, and the beef noodle soup. We know that the BDSM is what they're most famous for so we had to give it a try. I was pretty skeptical when I first saw the price since it was a lot pricier than the other dishes. We got to the restaurant at 6pm on a Tuesday night and it quickly filled up by 6:45pm to almost full capacity. The food came out one by one and each looked amazing. The tofu was some of the crispiest I've had and pretty good with the sauce and side veggies. The peashoots were delectable and had a lot of "wok hei" as they say in Chinese. The beef noodle soup was pretty decent as well, only qualm is that it only comes with about 3 pieces of beef and it's quite small. The BDSM chicken came out super interesting - the chicken was fried and the meat was juicy. The only thing I didn't love is that the powder/spices was almost a bit too much in my opinion - the powder made it a bit too dry for my liking. Would I pay over $60 for the chicken again? Probably not since it didn't feel like it had as much substance as I would have expected. Overall it was a pretty good spot to check out if you're interested in Taiwanese food in the area.
Food was ok, good decor and seemed better suited for small
Food was ok, good decor and seemed better suited for small groups. Reservation was too late so didn't get to try the bdsm chicken. The popcorn chicken flavor reminded me more of Korean fried chicken, sweet and sticky- the chicken breast pieces were a tad dry. Good portion size relatively though. Beef noodle soup tasted slightly fusion, but pretty solid. Pork belly and cuttlefish sauce was your typical braising sauce (good but expensive for what it is, and cuttlefish definitely did not belong in the dish imo). Shrimp floss lettuce cups were interesting, decent take. Pea shoots were somewhat overpowered by the sauce base used for the dish. Would come back to try the bdsm chicken and the beef fat chili oil noodles.
A Taiwanese restaurant worth the trek to greenpoint in
A Taiwanese restaurant worth the trek to greenpoint in brooklyn! GET THE BDSM CHICKEN I went for dinner at 4:30 pm to wait on line to be one of the first out of 5 for the bdsm chicken. i recommend making reservation at 5 for the bdsm chicken because they only serve 5 a day. the BDSM chicken was crispy on outside, tender on inside and just enough fattiness. the spicy vegetables on top complimented the saltiness and crispiness of the chicken. worth the wait. sacha hot honey popcorn chicken was my favorite, because it was crispier than the BDSM and you could taste the basil and honey flavor along with MSG and salt. this was one of the best fried chicken I have had. beef noodles was a bit dry, but we had the lily flemming fried rice and the pork was perfectly fried and there were tons of seasonings in the rice. this is fried rice done correctly. we had the fried tangyuan for the dessert and the cold ice cream contrasted with the warm and squishy tangyuan. the texture was amazing. wenwen nailed it on their frying technique and seasoning profile, and i want to come back for their brunch menu
Great ambience, delectable food and friendly service.
Fabulous spot to do family style dining. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE DESSERT! Omg it was soooo good!

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
