Fantastic.
Good enough to eat twice in 4 days (once as take out, once for special occasion early dinner). Food/drinks: The food is excellent. Very impressed with the octopus, tomatoey eggplant dish, fatoush, sea bass, babaganoush and 4 other dishes I tried. Cauliflower was good but not that exciting. 6 dishes for 3 people was plenty. Love that they're allergen friendly (gluten free, dairy free was no problem) and gave me lettuce cups in place of pita. Oh, get the tahini!! It's next level. And the 3pm in Instanbul. Delicious. And the golden raisin sorbet. Light and refreshing yet creamy. Service: Also excellent. Getting attentive service with a full house (there must be like 200 tables?!) and real care about my dietary restrictions was impressive. Ambiance: Nice! We sat indoors in a booth. It's airy. Buzzing with activity. And was a nice experience overall. My only complaints: it was drafty when the door opened/closed and there are stairs to get to the bathroom. The food for us in but the experience will keep me coming back. Tip: tasting menu is probably a lot of food so don't feel pressured to get it!

..wow what can I say about this INCREDIBLE place? I want to start off by saying that I am allergic to all nuts (except peanuts), tahini, and I'm also vegetarian. This itself makes me stray from ALL Mediterranean places because most of their dishes have these things in them, and let me tell you before you tell me, I am missing out on some good stuff! My group of 14 & I dined here recently on Saturday, April 13th on the top floor. My friend called ahead for a large group & had the menu picked out in advance. My birthday was just a few days before so he also mentioned that to the restaurant & they added it to our personal menus! What a sweet & personable touch! To make it easier on our waiter, we split the table up by vegans/vegetarians on 1 side & meat-eaters on 1 side. By the way, BIG SHOUT OUT to our server, Elvis!! He somehow remembered everyone's allergies & dietary restrictions and remembered whose drinks go where if someone switched their seats briefly. Elvis, I don't know what to tell you, other than that you made my dining experience at a restaurant where I normally am not able to eat anything, so memorable that I will literally never forget it. He brought out dishes that accommodated everyone, and then if a vegetarian dish had tahini or pine nuts in it, he would bring me the same dish without it. This was for ALL courses, from the appetizers to dinner and even to dessert! I seriously cried happy tears on the inside! Anyways, everything here was absolutely fantastic. While it was mine & my husband's first time dining here, a few others have dined here before and have raved about it. I can definitely say, that I am another happy & raving guest and will be recommending this restaurant for years to come. Can't WAIT to be back!
Be the first to ReplyIt's been years since I have been to Zaytinya, back then
It's been years since I have been to Zaytinya, back then not sure if reviews were even the in thing! What I remembered were regular entrees not tapas style. We tried to call to make a reservation but nobody answered, so we opted to still go. As soon as we were about to walk in, we were told there's a private event. So much so for not being diligent in updating their hours information to avoid the inconvenience of trekking to the restaurant, Spending on Uber, etc. We still wanted to eat there so we made reservations for the next evening. We came back and we didn't have 4 ppl that we reserved for due to last minute illness. We had to wait even when we arrived on time per our reservation. By the time we were seated we informed the hostess that we only had 2 ppl. She then just told us sorry we can't seat ourselves, that is policy. Nowhere in that conversation did she say they will try to find us a table. I was left with the impression they'd just ask us to leave. Thank you though for Christopher the manager who was so accommodating with finding us another table without much wait, with bubbly for the inconvenience. I ordered the eggplant bites and chocolate cake. The cake was on dry side, definitely a 3. Best part of the evening was the bottomless warm pits bread that was served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Be the first to ReplyFood and service were amazing! Very pretty restaurant.
We ate at the bar and our server Jeferson M was fantastic!! The woman behind the bar was incredible making sure our bread stayed filled. Honestly some of the best cocktails, food and service we have ever had! Only improvement would be that the ladies restroom had a couple stalls without paper both nights and seems to require a dedicated employee with the amount of high traffic they get on the weekends. Definitely make a reservation if you can as they were super busy but we can see why!!

Or should I say the DC. Anyways, there was okay service UNTIL WE GOT THERE. Mr. Manager told us that the food was halal [FOR CHICKEN AND LAMB ONLY], which was nice. Then, they took 30 minutes to tell us our seats had been given to someone else by accident. They thought we were Rodrigo; yet contrary to the affirmed claim, Olivia was not present. We were seated 20 minutes later. MIND YOU WE WERE STARVING FOR ALMOST AN HOUR AT THIS POINT. Anyways it was quite an nice area with an overhang and exquisite lighting. They took 30 minutes to serve me two lamb chops. They were nice enough to be confused AGAIN as they thought we were Rodrigo again, offering us more room for the "joining party." The lamb chops I had were tiny. One of them was practically entirely fat, the other somewhat fat. Don't waste your $30 dollars! The music their is mostly only bass and drums somehow, intentionally.
Be the first to ReplyFood was decent.
Not worth the money or the wait. The service was bad. They accidentally gave our seats away. They tried to move us to sit with someone else. Took 1 hour for the food. Not all halal . Not enough on the plate. Too much fat in the meat. $30 for 2 mini lamb chops is not worth it. . Our hotel room was cheaper than the meal . They called us the Rodrigo family. No I'm not Olivia Rodrigo's dad ‼. The beef was so not halal mode. Turkish Restraunt not fully halal? The waiters did not give us free cash. It was not in Mexico either . It was not a school . No robots serving us like McDonald's . There was no private Jennifer Lopez performance. They did not give us complimentary cuban cigars. Nor did they give us a free ambulance or taxi cab service. They did not give us the country of Türkiye in our wallet. The waiter was not Steve Harvey. There was no iMax theater screen built into the waiter named Ariana Cash. Johny cash did not perform. The ambiance was not ambiancing. There was no Mari Acha band.

Zaytinya was a lovely culinary experience! My husband and I were visiting Washington DC and we felt so lucky to discover this gem of a restaurant, owned by a true saint of our times! We got the tasting menu and every course was packed with delicious items from a traditional Mediterranean menu! Our only criticism was that it was way too much food. We were on foot and staying in a hotel, so we had to waste food, which is something we hardly ever do. Each course could've been cut down by 1/4 to 1/3 and we still would've been completely satisfied!
Be the first to ReplyCame here for lunch on a Monday with my husband.
Lovely ambiance. Business-casual vibe as expected on a weekday during lunch. We ordered hummus along with the chicken shawarma and falafel sandwiches, which came with a side Fattoush salad. Everything was very tasty. Only slight con was the falafel sandwich was a little dry - I should have asked for some tahini/tzatziki on the side. Service was a little slow, but it was busy. Overall, I would recommend this place but wouldn't say it's the best Mediterranean food I've had.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful decor.
Excellent Brussels sprouts. The fattoush was so so and the salmon sandwich needs some more flavor since it was a bit bland (strange considering the flavorful ingredients). Decently priced for lunch

Great food, very fancy so it would be a special occasion place for me but I reallg enjoyed the food, especially the branzino. Free pita is good as well when they are stocked up on it. The server was nice but didn't really explain anything on the menu. We sat outside which I recommend, much more peaceful.

We caught the tail end of the lunch rush, but the staff was still incredibly attentive, kind, and hospitable. Our server was a pro and she wasn't even phased by the by how busy it was. The food was so good! The ambiance was nice. Decor was clean and simple. We visited during the cherry blossom festival, so we were able to try a few seasonal items, like their cherry blossom cocktail. Very nice restaurant and we certainly plan to come back again soon.

Incredible food, fun lively room! Even the pita bread was remarkable. The staff was helpful to navigate gluten free options. The octopus was amazing. Highly recommended for innovative Mediterranean food.
Be the first to ReplyI LOVE zaytinya!! It is a fantastic spot to visit.
Having been here before, I decided to skip the experience menu and go a la carte, creating my own version of the experience. And what an experience it was! We started with the Zaytinya fries and an olives platter, which is an absolute must-try. It comes with pickled cauliflower and seasoned nuts, adding a delightful twist to the traditional olive platter. The labneh and hummus were creamy and flavorful, perfect for dipping with the unlimited fresh warm pita breads that kept coming to our table. For the main course, we got the delish lamb and the perfectly seasoned chicken shouk. Each dish was a testament to the culinary prowess of Chef Jose Andres and his chefs at this location. To complement our meal, we enjoyed a few of their signature cocktails, each one a perfect blend of flavors. The ambience of Zaytinya is fantastic. There was an incredible vibe throughout the restaurant, making it not just a meal but a whole culinary experience. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff ensuring our dining experience was seamless. In summary, Zaytinya is a must-visit for anyone in D.C. looking for an exceptional dining experience. Whether you're a local or just passing through, make sure to add this gem to your list. I can't wait to go back!

Everything about this place is special: the ambiance is busy but sophisticated, the service professional, and the hood felt like taking a trip to the Mediterranean for the evening. Truly a top tier dining experience for us.

Be the first to ReplyI have had many good meals at Zaytinya, some of them superb.
But I am here to tell you that Saturday night at the prime dinner hour is not the time to get one. This is a case of a restaurant's wild popularity backfiring: there is no way a restaurant of that size can cook to order when full. The usually wonderful grilled halloumi and octopus santorini arrived dried out, the sign of having been pre-cooked and later heated up. The waitstaff were maxed out. And the decibel level was over the top. In this way, a much anticipated meal was ruined. Now that the weather is warming up, the most enjoyable experience is to be had al fresco, on the ample patio. Preferably at lunch time in the glorious sun or a weeknight dinner at dusk.

You don't need Jose Andreas to keep an eye on this place as the staff behave like it's their own business. I've been here literally dozens of times and each time it is magic. My favorite spot is at the bar where the bartenders take extra steps to make you feel welcomed. It's a place where they know your name, as the song goes . Food is consistently delicious and fresh and great value! Bravo Jose Andreas, bravo Zaytinya !!

A server tried to serve us food from another table with full awareness that it was already placed on another table. Unacceptable behavior from this restaurant and I will not recommend based on this premise.

We came across this wonderful restaurant and was delightfully surprised. The hostess was incredibly accommodating even though we walked in at a peak with all the hustle and bustle. She sat us by a window table in less than 15 minutes. Our waiter Alex R. was kind, professional and very down to earth. We opted for the brunch special for 2. Generous portions, perfectly prepared both in cuisine and presentation. All the employees are A+ including the bus staff! The fluffy hot pita was so good! Coming back again if we ever visit DC in the future.

My first time here and it was amazing! This review is long overdue, but I did visit for Valentine's Day when they were running a tasting menu. The restaurant was busy with tables packed closely together. Even with a reservation, I still had to wait 15-20 minutes for a table to be ready. Our server was attentive and provided us with as much time as we needed to select our dishes from each course. Everything from the small dishes to the entrees were flavorful and delicious. I also appreciated the never-ending pita! Super light and airy but the perfect snack to fill the void in between courses. The restaurant itself is beautiful, but keep in mind the volume levels can be high as it is a large space. There is also a heated patio! Parking is on the street but since it is D.C., nearby garages are also an option.
Be the first to ReplyI had a wonderful meal from here tonight.
This is the first time I ever had food from here delivered. I normally eat at the restaurant itself and have always enjoyed my meal on site. The food coming through DoorDash did not disappoint. The food did not suffer because of the packaging or transit. It was still as flavorful as on site and the plating was just as nice. The only difference is the temperature of the food is a little cooler than on site but that is to be expected with any delivered food and not a fault of zatinya or DoorDash. My wife and I were both very happy with our appetizers and entrees.

The allergen menu was fantastic and helped ensure we picked foods our son could eat. Tons of options and not a bad dish on the menu. Anything they make with eggplant is delicious.

Really good food, but what was the best part was our amazing server Hairul. He was really cool and smoothed things over so well to make sure we were happy and was very pleasant. People like him make me glad to go out and eat and support establishments such as these. I want to wish him a very Happy Birthday and can't wait to come back with my Family!
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance and delicious food.
We went on a Wednesday night and it was packed! The fresh pitas with a the hummus, the tazitki, and the scallops were my favorite. Waiter was polite and knowledgeable.
