Bistro at The Boathouse Henley-on-Thames Reviews from The Last Year
Lovely Lunch - highly recommended
Lunch on a busy Saturday for the four of us. We have a place in the centre Henley we use. A few years back we frequented Shaun’s up market restaurant and tasting menus a lot - every time was fantastic and never disappointed. This was our first time at his Bistro style establishment since he had changed dining styles I think just before lockdown. Great menu and fantastic staff. Even though you will notice some of the staff seem barely out of school they are all ‘old heads on young shoulders’ polite yet relaxed. Starters of baked Camembert were historic is a little on the large size but that’s not a complaint. Smoked Salmon was perfect. All the prices were very reasonable. We all had different starters but were equally satisfied with the portion size and taste quality. The girls drank various cocktails whilst those driving enjoyed alcohol free beers and water. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with Shaun visiting customers at their tables for a catch-up. Highly recommended
Fabulous location, great vibe, awesome food and attentive, lovely young servers
The location of this restaurant is stunning and the vibe continues inside, buzzy but not too loud. The food was excellent - I highly recommend the mixed tacos as a starter! All reasonably priced, including the wine choices. But the icing on the cake is the servers, they were all so attentive and lovely, and just seemed really happy in their job. A fabulous night with great friends!
Birthday dinner.
Amazing service and food, sat along side the Thames on a lovely balmy spring evening. The tartiflette was fantastic. Already looking forward to next booking (19/05/2024).
What a lovely find!
A lovely spot for dinner. The staff where absolutely delightful, nothing is too much trouble and the food was amazing. Will I go again? Absolutely, well done guys!
Poor
Nice location, food was below average, my partner had the roast beef only one slice of the beef was cooked well, I had the soft shell prawn tacos average is me being polite, I ordered the mac and cheese balls alongside my tacos, cooked on the outside freezing on the inside, they was sent back, was offered a replacement but was put of by this point. Would not return
Lovely neighbourhood restaurant, great atmosphere
This is a really lovely restaurant with excellent food, good service and a lovely atmosphere. The room looks out over the river and there are spaces to sit inside and out. The tables are well spaced, the music is subtle, but it is still maintains a really great busy and lively character. The food is well presented, very generous and good quality with a thoughtful menu, and absolutely delicious. The bruschetta and the chocolate tart deserve a special mention. Vegetarians are well catered for and vegan options are available. The service was friendly and efficient. A great experience all round!
Fantastic!
We went on a Thursday night post Easter weekend so was probably quiet given the time. We chose to sit next to the window with a view of the Thames. From start to finish we had an amazing experience and the food was outstanding. We had the Camembert to share and for mains I had the mussels in white wine sauce, fries and crusty bread, whilst my partner had the fish and chips with tartare sauce and mushy pease. Everything was cooked to perfection - the haddock was beautiful and there was plenty of Camembert. This is a family run restaurant and this is a restaurant they can be truly proud of. The chef came out to chat to guests too, which was a nice touch. All in all, I would highly recommend!
Excellent Sunday Roast Lunch
Excellent location, on the banks of the river at Henley. Located between the Long Stay Car park and the town center. Really delicious Sunday Lunch here, Roast Beef, Yorkshire Pud, delicious veges, including Cauliflower Cheese, great gravy. Dog friendly outside on the deck, water bowls provided. Awesome table service, very professional. Great choice of food, my Partner had the fish and chips and they were delicious! Great coffees too. Clean loos.
How a restaurant should be.
My wife and I have just got back from a great meal there. Excellent quality food. Friendly, attentive staff. Far better than the meal we had at the Hotel Du Vin the night before.
Business dinner for 15
Took a team there for dinner during a meeting in the Henley area. As always the food and service was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the food and the evening, highly recommended. From start to finish the service was also great, the service during the actual meal and making all the arrangements before the dinner itself.
Consistently fabulous!
A continual ‘go to’ restaurant in Henley ~ food is always consistently excellent, fresh and great size portions. Service is warm and friendly (consistently) too with the back drop of a beautiful setting. You just can’t go wrong here. Great for families, friends, couples and parties! Cannot recommend highly enough!
Lovely setting with great ambience
Had a lovely lunch and couple glasses of wine. Great setting, really friendly staff and delicious food. Highly recommend a visit.
Top Burger 🍔
Four of us enjoyed the most delicious burger with piping hot crispy fries. Honestly couldn’t fault it. Everything was as it should be. Piping hot. Perfectly cooked. Quality ingredients. The rest of the menu looked great too. Staff were pleasant and efficient.
Nice Bistro
This bistro is a very nice place to spend the evening. All of us enjoyed our food. My Fish & Chips was good, but the Mussels were a better bet. Staff were friendly. Not cheap but definitely worth a visit.
Ok
Lovely location. Limited menu and what you see on the online menu may very much not be what's available on the night. Was pleasant enough but we were expecting a little more as we chose it based on the Michellin Guide.
Pricey, but so worth it - outstanding.
What happens when a Michelin star kitchen decides to open a Bistro - magic. Whilst the menu seems standard with burgers, fish and chips, tacos - the quality of the food when it arrives is off the charts. Every dish is absolute perfection in each mouthful. Generous portions, simply the best plate of food you could ask for. Lovely atmosphere, spacious tables good staff. The bill may appear pricey, but once you have experienced the quality of the food you will think it is bargain of the decade
