I typically think of it as exclusive or a place where I need to get dressed up for and plan to spend a evening on fine dining service. However, on a hunt for Key Lime Pie, I decided to order-in Uber Eats to see how the quality was and if it's worth a future trip. I know my selections are atypical of what someone would order here. I opted for the veggie sushi, the Market salad, and of course the Key Lime Pie. Having just returned from Miami and having had the Key Lime pie at Joe's Stone Crab, I've been trying to find something as rich and authentic. Fire & Oak has it! There's even the zesty lime bits dispersed inside the filling. The classic gram cracker crust is buttery and balanced the tangy lime. The portion was generous for $9, and I absolutely loved this. I'll come back just for the key lime pie. The veggie sushi roll ($12) was understated and came with three dipping sauces, the roll is rice side out, which is good if you are not a nori fan. Personally, I enjoy tasting each of the veggies here. This was very fresh and could have used a few more minutes of being pressed as some of it fell apart in my soy sauce. I really enjoyed it though and would recommend adding some oshinko to the veggie mix. I'm saving the best for last here, and no it was not the key lime pie. Have you ever had a salad that makes you feel better with each bite? This salad was so good, I almost want to cry. The Market salad ($13) comes with bacon, egg. onion, radish, tomato, carrots, and brioche croutons. I paired it with the champagne dressing. I like my salads slightly underdressed, so I appreciate that they serve the dressing on the side. Visually, this is a well thought out salad. The egg is not a giant hard boiled half egg. It's the softly scrambled pieces that when mixed allows you to get a bit of it in every forkful. The carrots are thin enough to not be cumbersome and nicely accent the salad rather than dominate it. The red onions and radish provide the zest and spice needed to balance the richness of the eggs, bacon, and butter toasted brioche croutons. Similar to the eggs, the bacon is not overwhelming the salad. The bacon is extra crispy and adds a nice salty textural crunch. The bed of mesclun held the toppings well and was served in large pieces indicating this is not coming from a typical grocery store mix. The combination of the champagne dressing and mesclun is ideal as both are delicate. Based on this take out experience, Fire & Oak is worth visiting again soon!
