I was craving loco moco and this was close to where I was staying. Its across the street from the Ala Wai Canal at the bottom of Aqua Skyline hotel. Let's just say breakfast came out so fast and was too good that I didn't have a chance to take pictures. Da Original loco moco is solid!

Great Cheeseburgers! The old place could use some renovation but at the same time you are walking into a historic establishment that is to be appreciated. Friendly and efficient service.
I honestly wasn't that impressed.
Sorry, but def not sorry. I made the decision to try Forty Niner for some much needed breakfast for my toddler. The menu and pictures posted on Yelp made for a promising spot so I loaded up the little monster and headed out. The menu is pretty big, offering up a large assortment of breakfast/brunch item and well as lunch plates. Pancakes, waffles, omelettes, steaks, burgers, and more!! Being that it was breakfast, we opted for Uncle Boy Waffle. These waffles are smothered in haupia sauce and topped with bananas, berries, and a sprinkling of macadamia nuts. According to the cashier, the cinnamon honey latte was a popular/must have item so we went with it as well. FYI: although Forty Niner's have a good spread of breakfast offerings, they do not offer your typical juices. Your best option is the cans of Hawaiian Sun. 3 stars overall. The food was okay, nothing that made me feel inclined to come back. The cinnamon honey latte primarily tasted like milk and not much more- not recommended if you're looking for a jolt of energy. Cashier was friendly.

The food is well portioned, delicious, and reasonably priced. I took off a star for service this time. I saw the person at the counter was busy counting the register, so I waited to be acknowledged because i wasn't in a hurry. I also wanted to avoid interrupting or stressing g her. When she let me know she was ready, she still avoided eye contact, and it made me feel like she was annoyed somehow. I still tip because they desrve it. That being said.. the food and price is right, so I'll be back next time.
Great food and staff.
Very casual dining. Place your order at the counter they will call you when your order is ready. Seating at tables are limited, but there are also couches to sit at. Blueberry French toast was great!

Mostly everything we ate in Waikiki was subpar but Forty Niner was the exception. It was on-par with the establishments in North Shore. If you're a fan of French toast, I'd recommend the sweet Leilani. And for those who prefer savory, the Forty Niner burrito. As with everything on the islands, prices are a little steep but portions here are pretty generous. This hidden gem is located in a hotel lobby but don't let that deter you. It's not a franchise, as you might expect in such a location. It's fast casual with plenty of room to sit. I'd highly recommend!

I got ube colada pancakes and this is how I describe it ,the pancakes were fluffy and the ube sauce was creamy and very thick and sweet. There was also some coconut shavings around the ube bits. The service was very fast, and no wait.

A great old school local spot with very friendly and excellent service. I'm normally there for breakfast and find all there breakfast dishes extremely delicious and fulfilling. My favorite dish is the Smoked Meat plate. The pork is seasoned just right and tender. Their Chicken and Waffle plate is another fan favorite in our family.
If you're visiting Waikiki & you're waiting for table in
If you're visiting Waikiki & you're waiting for table in regards to breakfast: 1. You're going to the wrong place 2. You're wasting your precious vacation time Go to the Forty Niner. It's locally owned & operated. Hard working people run this establishment & they put out a very good product. I went there 3 different times over 6 days. The only reason why I didn't go there more is because I had tours that started early in the morning. I don't know the entire story, but the Forty Niner was started by 2 gentlemen who served in World War II. Today, real estate is a problem in Hawaii, if you haven't heard what the average cost of a home is. The Forty Niner doesn't have their own building like they used to. However, don't let that discourage you. It's located next to the ground level of a hotel near the canal. It's outside, which is nice, but you're covered from the elements of weather. The Forty Niner breakfast was my favorite. You get fried rice with spam, 2 eggs, & a choice of meat for a very reasonable price. They have 4 tables where you can sit down & enjoy your meal. I highly recommend the Forty Niner. The food is fantastic without the long waits.
We came Just for the Hawaiian pancakes!!! ESTABLISHMENT:
We came Just for the Hawaiian pancakes!!! ESTABLISHMENT: No frills local dig boasts being the oldest running diner on the Island. Two brothers joined forces post WWII to create a simple island homestyle brunch experience. Here you will find hidden in a small hotel on a random street as an offshoot of one of the main strips in waikiki. PANCAKES: Delicious hot & fluffy banana-stuffed macadamia nut pancakes with the warm creamy haupia (coconut) sauce is PURE ALOHA! Glaze-like sauce looks like it would overpower but surprisingly not overly sweet. A great balance of mild coconut & banana flavors. Dreamy. In my opinion, typical Hawaiian dishes tend to be a bit more subdued in comparison to other cultures but nonetheless, I appreciate its simplicity. Hence the Ube pancakes (purple yam) taste very much like the actual potato/yam. Sprinkled with shredded coconut topped with real ube yam pieces is a great option for the one who favors an even milder sauce. Please know that this mom & pop eatery is a reflection of island simplicity and that's the type of experience you'll get. SERVICE: Efficient & packed ready for the on-the-go visitor so you can enjoy more beach time & shopping. A win'win little Island gem. Mahalo!
Al fresco dining and we were lucky to get 1 of the 4 tables
Al fresco dining and we were lucky to get 1 of the 4 tables available there. Located inside this hotel lobby off Seaside, there's also couch seating. This was our post marathon meal so we were hangry. He had the big breakfast: spam, bacon, Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice. Very filling and delicious. I had the loco moco with the patty and kalua pork. The dark brown gravy was very good. Both were big, hearty portions to feed your soul. Definitely give this place a try when in Waikiki.
This place is located in the lobby of the skyline hotel.
It's not what you think. The containers your food is served in are neither compostable nor biodegradable. But they should be because its Hawaiʻi for 1, it's Waikīkī for 2, and that's just being responsible when you don't offer any other option. Food was average for what was promoted. It looks better than it really is, so for food presentations, they get 5 stars, but taste only 3. I won't go here again.
Very excited to check this place out.
Ordered "Da Original" loco moco $12 comes with 1 beef patty asked to add a second patty for $4, came out 2nd Patty served separately on to go box with no gravy, I asked to just add some gravy on top, but had to pay another $3 additional, the counter person tried to argue with me and said " that's how it is" . Food is alright there are other better places out there. The beef patty was still cold inside and not as cooked, also ordered "Forty niner"pancakes $13 banana pancakes with macadamian sauce? nothing too special just plain pancakes with condensed milk on top as sauce. This place is a joke. Left with bad taste and bad experience. I should have gone to McDonald's instead!
Service was almost okay but not really, they weren't too
Service was almost okay but not really, they weren't too friendly for being at a hotel . The food was smaller portions than I thought and I ordered the "big boy breakfast ".. for the price it didn't suffice.

When you're in Waikiki, support local and have breakfast or lunch at Forty Niner. Loco moco is super ono - good portion size and fresh ingredients. Kalua pig omelet is winnahz. No long lines and super casual atmosphere. Must try!
Service was fast but my açaí bowl looks kinda sad.
.. Ube Pancakes wasn't bad, but the pancakes itself wasn't made or filled with ube, it was just original pancakes with ube sauce on top, the pancakes was very fluffy tho!
Forty Niner is a Gem, eat there!
Loco Moco was so amazing, so good. The Hawaiian chicken was perfect too. Great atmosphere and will definitely be back.
Hold in the wall with really good food!
We found this place based on high recommendations on trip advisor. I cannot lie, at first, I was skeptical as no one else was there other than one other couple and us, and it was breakfast time. We ordered outside and the lady that helped us was very helpful and nice. I ordered the Fourty Niner pancakes, and a side order of bacon. My twins ordered plain pancakes and my wife the chorizo hash. The food was wonderful with nice large portions. We chose to eat on the picnic tables in the rear of the restaurant as the weather was very nice.
