Kizuna Japanese Restaurant Cupertino Reviews from The Last Year

This is a nice hidden gem in Cupertino that really has a different style. First of all the place is really small with less than 10 tables, especially since they switched to a different model during the pandemic. Now, all the utensils and water are self-serve and they use disposable plates and containers for everything. So, you kind of feel like you're eating in a cafeteria even though pre-pandemic, I was able to see this place operating like a typical restaurant. For the food, it comes in big portions. I got the katsu curry and it was enough for a meal and a half - 1 meal if you're really hungry. The place is also quiet so if you're trying to hang with friends, you can hear the conversation but depending on the crowd there, it might also be easy to overhear others. For me I like a quiet spot so it checks the boxes. Overall, this is a nice homey place to get home cooked-style Japanese food and would recommend.

Today (Friday 4/19) is their last day of business!! The owners are retiring and will close their doors. It looks like someone different will be taking the restaurant as there is a sign on the window for transfer of ownership. My friends have loved this place, it became a hidden gem and staple of Cupertino. I am really grateful I got to try their chicken katsu curry before they close their doors. I will dearly miss the food and having dinner there with my friends but I wish the owners a happy retirement!
First time dinning here.
Everything was delicious and service was spectacular. The staff were very informative and recommended great items. Their Curry chicken katsu was phenomenal.
Such a hidden gem! It doesn't look like much at first
Such a hidden gem! It doesn't look like much at first glance but the curry here is amazing! The curry katsu is my favorite in the bay and the udon is really great as well. We came recently for a late Saturday lunch and found ourselves quickly seated. There's a few tables inside but this is also a great takeout spot. For a starter, we got the agadashi tofu which was light and perfectly fried. For entrees, the chicken katsu curry as well as the curry udon and both were fantastic. The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy outside and super juicy inside. Served with a rich curry sauce on the side (which is great to keep the chicken crisp), the set came with salad and mac salad as well. We'll definitely be back to try the pork katsu as well and excited to have found another go-to take out spot.
I tried most of curry restaurants in Bay Area and this
I tried most of curry restaurants in Bay Area and this place serves the best katsu curry! Katsu is juicy inside and crispy outside. My boyfriend had chicken katsu curry and both of us agreed pork katsu had more flavor. All dishes and drinks come in paler/ plastic plate and cups and the customers have to clean the table after eating. I usually don't like eating food in togo containers but this place is exception! I would love to support their minimum labor.
The Katsu Curry is so amazing here.
The curry has bits of shredded beef, and the curry has this deep intense flavor from it. The curry is a bit spicy, but its not an intense burning. If its too spicy, you can eat the red pickled radishes and rice. The curry here is so much tastier than Curry Hyuga or Demiya in my opinion. Curry Hyuga's curry is too sweet for me, while Demiya seems like a watered down curry flavor. This is all personal preference. Try them all and see which Japanese curry you prefer! Back to the food... The Katsu (fried pork) was so crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It is very tasy whether you slather it in curry or eat it on its own. I have had their bento boxes and udon, but the curry is my all time favorite. It just makes me warm and happy eating such delicious food. Current price of Katsu Curry is $15.95 + $1.50 for tax. It comes with a side salad with a blended carrot dressing, and a small apetizer thats always changing (edamame and macoroni salad this trip). If you don't feel like curry they have lots of other choices as well.
It's been a while since I've been here - and I feel like
It's been a while since I've been here - and I feel like it's changed! We came back due to the high rating for their curry dish and decided to give it a try and I'm so glad we did!! It's a little different in which they serve everything on disposable plates and utensils. Drinks and to go containers along with extra napkins are all in the middle of the room so it's a help your self. I kinda like it. You basically seat yourself and order via QR code menu on the table. They bring out plastic spoon, disposable chopsticks and napkins for everyone and you help yourself to drinks. We ordered edamame, chicken katsu curry, tonkatsu curry and chicken karage curry - all spicy for $2 more each. I did add a shrimp to my order which was a nice option to have. Personally for ME, the curry was MUCH too spicy - I could see seeds in the sauce - which made me wonder if those are pepper seeds? Next time going original. However the rest of my fam loved the spice level. I have to say I was used to the other (now gone) curry place where even medium spicy wasn't that spicy... here - they are SERIOUS and I can't imagine what the next level spice would be!! And their curry is deep in flavor - not light in color but dark and very flavorful. It comes in a little to go container for you to dip or pour over your plate - but I love that I could just grab a lid and bring the rest home! Overall - we all LOVED it - the proteins were all so juicy and tender, LOVED whatever salad dressing they served with the salad! SO refreshing!! And I didn't realize it came with some edamame along with a spoonful of mac salad. For me - next time I'll order half rice and I think I can increase the salad? But again - the chickens and pork were tender, crispy with nice crunch and perfect crust. Gotta eat with a bite with rice, daikon and sauce! PERFECT bite!! OH and I have to mention - their edamame - while typically is no big deal but for some reason theirs was BIG edamame with the perfect amount of salty flavor - not too much - just a hint! PERFECT This will definitely be our go to for Japanese curry. It is a tiny place especially since the middle has a table with to go containers, water, cups and napkins but I like the self serve. And when done - there's a garbage can in the front and you clean dump everything when done...
Kakiage udon Everything here was still Covid procedures.
Had plastic plates, bowls, utensils. Had to self serve and clean up essentially. There is about only 4 tables open sit in this resturant. The Udon was decent, but nothing special. It just reminded me of the udon Costco package. The tempura bundle was so huge I coudknt finish it all. It also didn't fit in my udon bowl to dip.
We went to Kizuna while we were visiting family in
We went to Kizuna while we were visiting family in California for Christmas and New Years. We met up with friends who it was also their first time coming to Kizuna. They took us in right away and helped us right away. The service was great. They had a pretty extensive menu also so there was a lot to choose from. All of us ordered and we waited just a little before our food carne out. We were a little stunned when the food came out because we were eating in the restaurant. All the food came out on paper plates with disposable silverware or disposable bowls. It definitely caught us off guard. I got the oyakodonbori and it was in a disposable bowl. We quickly got over the presentation when we tasted the food. It was really good. I enjoyed my oyakodonbori. Other people ordered the combination meals and they enjoyed their meal as well too. Overall it was a rather great meal and it was pretty affordable. So don't worry about the presentation, it tastes good, trust me.
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night after some rock
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night after some rock climbing. Luckily we put our name down right before a bunch of groups came and we got seated in a few minutes. Otherwise it was looking to be at least a 20 min wait. Ordering was through your phone. You also pay on your phone. Water is self serve. Food comes out on disposable plates. So turn around for tables can be pretty quick! They have their system nailed down. All the food came out quickly and it was all delicious. But oh my god the pork katsu. That first bite was heavenly and I will have to order it every single time! We all got a variety from karage to chicken katsu but the pork...always pork from now on. It was tender and just melted in my mouth. And the fry was perfectly crispy. I can't wait to come back!
My significant other wanted to try this place out, and udon
My significant other wanted to try this place out, and udon is one of my favorite foods, so I was looking forward to it. I scanned their QR code at the table and ordered the Niku Udon. To actually completely place the order, I had to provide my name, phone number, email, and credit card information to pay. There was an appetizer that came first that included inari nigiri (2 pieces total), edamame, and some small shredded seaweed-like pieces. I thought these were pretty good. Unfortunately, the Niku Udon was underwhelming. Each component -- the broth, noodle, and meat -- didn't have enough flavor. The texture of the noodle was okay. Overall, this udon wasn't that much better than getting instant udon. It's possible that they're going for something healthier so that the broth and meat are less fatty and maybe less salty. However, that's not noted anywhere, so I can't confirm if that's the sole reason why the dish tasted so-so. I was pretty disappointed that they used disposable foodware for every part of the customer experience, though I was able to tell them I didn't need their utensils and napkins because I brought my own. This environment may be logistically easier for young kids or those that are unable to use reusable foodware for health/medical reasons. ECO NOTES (Dine-In) Dine-In Dishware: Disposable plates and bowls Napkins*: Single-use disposable paper napkin Utensils*: Plastic spoon plus disposable wooden chopsticks Water cups: Self-serve with plastic cups of varying sizes, so you could likely bring your own (BYO) clean, reusable cup/bottle *When the employee brought this over, I told them I brought my own, so they took these back.
This has been my favorite Japanese curry spot since before
This has been my favorite Japanese curry spot since before the pandemic. We get the same order every time, Katsu Curry and Curry Udon - delicious!!! We used to dine in regularly pre-pandemic but now mostly do to go orders since the store has transitioned to serving in takeout containers and utensils even if you sit down.
Wow I was so pleasantly satisfied after trying the japanese
Wow I was so pleasantly satisfied after trying the japanese curry at Kizuna! There was no wait on a Saturday evening when they opened at 5pm. Easy parking since it is located in a plaza. I walked in, sat at a table before my group of 4 arrived, and ordered using the QR code at the table. It was very straightforward and the curry came out in less than 10 minutes-- and piping hot! The salad was fresh and I like the side of macaroni salad. The chicken katsu itself had a consistent breading and crisp to it! Downside is the disposable plate and the plastic red solo cups used for water. But the food itself was delicious and it was a very quiet restaurant. There were only a couple other families eating as well. It is a rather small sized restaurant with good service and tasty food. I would definitely come back again if I am looking for a light environment and delicious curry.
Really cute homestyle type Japanese place.
We came in on a Sunday right as it opened, and it got crowded pretty quick! They don't have any Yelp waitlist so you'll have to mark your name and wait outside. Once you get in, you order through a QR code on your phone which was pretty interesting. All of the food comes in the takeout disposable containers only, and they ask you to throw away your own plates once you finish eating. I ordered a katsu and salmon combo, as well as an agedashi tofu, and it was really yummy. The katsu was crispy and all of the food was really warm. It just felt like a homemade meal, which is totally the vibe that they were going for. I think definitely this place is a great place if you want homestyle Japanese food. The value is pretty decent as well, and it really just feels like a cozy place for a meal.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
