Le Pressoir d'Argent - Gordon Ramsay Bordeaux Reviews from The Last Year
An exceptional place
Everything was impeccable, from the welcome until our departure. We didn't miss anything, thanks to the attentiveness of the staff. Each dish had a story, talentedly told by a young waiter of 22 years old. The flavors, the smells, the presentation of the dishes delicately and deliciously delighted our taste buds. We felt privileged in this exceptional place.
Excepcetionl cuisine and service in a stunning relaxing environment.
We visited Le Pressoir d'Argent on our last evening of a holiday in the Bordeaux area and we really did save the best until last. We were made to feel welcome the second we entered the building and had the most amazing fine dining experience to date. The staff were exceptional as was the food. My favorite dish of the evening was the pigeon and my partners the lobster. The “black diamond” truffles were on another level and complimented the dishes they accompanied perfectly. Every course was of the highest quality with the finest wine pairing , we would like to thank the team for providing us with an unforgettable evening and hope to return again in the future.
Exceptional!
Perfection has been achieved! Exceptional card, cozy atmosphere, excellent service, and above all exceptional dishes that are both original, subtle, sophisticated and crafted, with elegance and finesse and without any false note. We were a little hesitant initially thinking the chef was English, but we discovered that in fact the chef is French, Alexandre Koa! In summary, exceptional place, exceptional welcome and service, and above all exceptional cuisine!
Disappointments…
The place is splendid and the staff very attentive and friendly. It’s a very beautiful kitchen, with a few hiccups though. The pastry chef who had developed a rather sophisticated composition around the pear forgot a basic principle: the quality of the product highlighted, which was not there. So this first dessert was a failure. Furthermore, we chose a food and wine pairing which worked well except for the signature dish offered at an additional cost. A wine that was too young has spoiled it. Disappointing overall for a two Michelin star.
A shame. A wonderful restaurant that left me feeling let down.
It breaks my heart to give this a 3 star review. My wife and I first came here not long after it had opened to celebrate our engagement, and to say it was sensational would have been a massive understatement. So, to mark our fifth wedding anniversary, we saved up to come again. It’s important to put this into context: if you were paying a fraction of the price, this would walk five stars, but you’re paying a lot of money for what should be excellent, two Michelin star food and service. This is not what we received. Since our initial visit, not much had changed, but it was starting to look a little tired. The service was good, but nothing compared to the meticulously choreographed hospitality we had once gazed at in awe. The staff were young and seemingly inexperienced. Lots of chatter and giggling between them, which in itself is quite endearing, but lacking the seriousness you’d expect. We opted for one of the tasting menus with the lobster supplement. Each dish was good, but not exceptional. On our initial visit those years ago, each dish was something I could only liken to an experiment from Willy Wonka’s factory - how they got those flavours and taste sensations seemed magical. But this time it was ‘nice’. The signature lobster dish had completely changed. They had now added caviar and cooked the lobster differently, which you may be wowed at, but everything, including the gold leaf, was unnecessary. In fact, it was probably too rich. The thought behind the food is clearly excellent, but we were full with three dishes to go, which isn’t great when you’re parting with a few weeks’ salary. The wine, as you’d expect in Bordeaux, was sublime. Again, it’s sad to leave this review, but feedback is a gift, and I’m sure this won’t in any way impede their success.
Wow!! A gastronomic journey!
Oh wow wow wow! What a gastronomical journey we had last night. But be warned, if you are booking dinner here come very very hungry! The wait staff were exceptional. I think they had about 10 staff working 10 tables. But each time a dish arrives we had two to three staff serving us. It was almost like a dance how they walked the restaurant and presented dishes. We don’t eat seafood or fish and they perfectly catered for us. I overheard another table who had a few dietary issues - ie a table of three where one did not eat shell fish; one didn’t eat pork and one didn’t eat pine nuts. Nothing was an issue We had a 5 course meal - but in France, that works out to be about 10 courses! Everything was so delicate and delicious. It’s truly an experience to put on the bucket list!
Food was really good (as should be expected from a 2 star
Food was really good (as should be expected from a 2 star Michelin rated restaurant). Deducted one star because they coyly offered a $45/person cheese plate (not included in the prix fix menu) and the wine pairing. Should either include with the already expensive price or be upfront about the extra cost of the cheese plate (which wasn't worth the thin slices of cheese they gave us). Otherwise, service was amazing and worth the trip for our special anniversary dinner.
Fabulous meal, beautiful room, wonderful service
Oh my, what a fabulous meal! And what an elegant room. We ordered a full tasting menu, which had 14 courses ... but the staff kept bringing little treats so I think we actually sampled 20 different dishes. The entire meal lasted five hours. Yes, five hours. We arrived at 7 pm and left a little after midnight. Honestly I was a little dizzy from all the variety and all the exquisite little dishes! It was just wonderful. One question I have is -- What was that delicious champagne they served when we first arrived? It was so refined and elegant. The best champagne I ever had. Unfortunately, I did not ask for the name. It was $35 (euros) for my glass, but absolutely worth it! So delicious! Finally, the staff -- so attentive, so kind, so gracious. They are consummate professionals.
