Mandarin Wok Restaurant San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
Returned to this Clairemont spot after an 8 year absence,
Returned to this Clairemont spot after an 8 year absence, and they've still got it! The only nostalgic 90s, East Coast style (yes, there are sweet n sour + Chinese mustard containers on every table) Chinese restaurant that I've encountered in SD. The ceilings still have cheerful red lanterns, and we were initially the only diners for Sunday dinner. Service was brisket and kind. Some older single guys came in later, and one was very pleased with the off menu sizzling rice soup that he ordered. The actual menu is extensive, which is always a good thing to this here. picky eater : ) We selected the cream cheese wontons as an appetizer, and they arrived perfectly crisp and savory without any unwantedkrab/crab. My sesame tofu was light and featured a generous portion of vegetables. The sauce could have packed more flavor but overall a good version of this classic. My companion enjoyed his beef fried rice but said that the wings were undercooked. Prices were reasonable--flavors at 3 stars but unique (for SD) ambiance, lovely service and menu variety bump this place back up to 4 stars
Fantastic food and great ambiance! The prices were great
Fantastic food and great ambiance! The prices were great and the portions were big. The dinner special can't be beat! The service was wonderful, everyone was very friendly, we'll definitely come back soon!
Wonderful food and great service.
Love the King Pao chicken. My wife always orders Mongolian Beef. It's delicious.
Mandarin Wok is a great choice if you are looking for
Mandarin Wok is a great choice if you are looking for somewhere with a lot of options, very reasonably priced, and a hole-in-the-wall feel. Even being in a strip with other stores, as soon as you enter it is very genuine and relaxed atmosphere. I've always had a great experience with our servers. They've had great recommendations in the past based off of what kind of Chinese food I typically like. Get their salt+pepper wings... they are delicious! The portions are very good and I've left both times feeling like the cost was very on par for what I got. I would highly recommending trying Mandarin Wok if you haven't been!
Salt and pepper chicken wings are a must! Do it.
You won't be disappointed. Flavor burst and super crispy. Nice family owned business.
This is my second favorite Chinese food restaurant in San
This is my second favorite Chinese food restaurant in San Diego. They have an amazing war won ton soup and I really love the sweet and sour pork and cashew chicken. The only reason I have it 4 stars instead of 5 is the prices are a little high and they only offer lunch specials Tuesday through Friday not on weekends. On weekends even if you come in the day time you have to pay dinner prices. Also I ordered the lemon chicken and it wasn't good. Also they gave me sweet and sour sauce last time instead of the lemon chicken I ordered. Everything else is always really good though and they are very nice.
Just did take out from here- salt and pepper shrimp, cashew
Just did take out from here- salt and pepper shrimp, cashew chicken, and beef lo mein. Everything was amazing quality and more than generous for the price. This is my new go to spot for take out chinese.
Take out for Thanksgiving dinner.
Wanted to try something different for the holidays. The whole order was wrong. The quality was even worse. Don't recommend it at all.
Just ordered dinner from Mandarin Wok.
I have been looking for a solid Chinese restaurant close to home to add to my rotation and I was very hopeful. What a disappointment! While the egg roll was tasty but greasy and the shrimp tempura (fried shrimp) was tasty, the Mandarin lo mein and Bbq pork with vegetables was absolutely inedible. The hot and sour soup had too much vinegar and the heat was not savory. Sadly, i spend almost $70 for a tasteless poor quality dinner. I will not be returning to Mandarin Wok restaurant. I am still on the look out for a solid Chinese restaurant in the Clairmont area.
Very good food, not your "typical" Chinese food.
The service is very good and the dining room is clean.
Lunch with friends that highly recommended this place
The service is really good. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the orange chicken. The chicken was hard to find. so much breading or something. The egg drop soup was bland. The egg roll was full of cabbage no veggies. Would not go back.
Great family neighborhood spot with delicious food
This spot is amazing ! Came very hungry after a long day with some girl friends and they were very accommodating. The egg rolls and the kung pao tofu and the vegetable chow Mein were our favorites. Would highly recommend !
