SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa 6115 Sunset Blvd # 170 Los Angeles, CA 90028 United States Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Sugarfish is my go-to local sushi spot! They don't accept
Sugarfish is my go-to local sushi spot! They don't accept reservations so I prefer to go at odd hours when there's less of a crowd. That said, the service has always been friendly and attentive. I pretty much only go for the Nozawa Trust Me, their larger omakase lunch option, which, at $39 is actually a pretty good deal considering how much you get and the fact that Sugarfish is a no-tipping establishment. The servers are always sure to clearly identify every piece of fish that comes out, which is helpful. On my most recent visit, the standouts were the New Zealand sea bream and the hokkaido sea scallop (which was a substitution that day). I also love the blue dungeness crab handroll, which is served warm. Total comfort food. Overall, everything tastes super fresh and I always leave full and satisfied. I definitely want to visit soon and try some of their a la carte options. Their limited availability menu always looks tempting. I will be back again soon!
I visited Sugarfish about a week ago with my family having
I visited Sugarfish about a week ago with my family having not been in many years, pre covid. I didn't remember much about it except that I loved the salmon nigiri. I came back hoping they would live up to the delight of my memories. As soon as you walk into the place, you can tell it has a very simple and clean vibe. The lighting is well done, not too bright not too dark, a good dim feeling. It wasn't too loud yet still had a good atmosphere and there was also no wait (for lunchtime) which was nice. Our waitress was super nice and knowledgable. I had the Nozawa trust me order which is a chef's selection of a few different sushis and hand rolls started off with some edamame of course. I really enjoyed everything I had. It was super clean, simple, and fresh. The salmon nigiri definitely lived up to my expectations and was exactly how I remembered it! I also really liked the albacore sushi and the Toro hand roll. The crab hand roll was delicious as well as the lobster hand roll which one of my family members ordered. There is a clear thought out philosophy in Nozawa's approach, he wants everybody's experience to be pure and simple as well as peaceful. This means you can taste the quality of the fish and enjoy the simplest things done right (which is not easy). Another thing I enjoyed about it which I think is overlooked is that the rice that the fish was sitting on was nice and warm. It adds a nice element and combined with the freshness and soy sauce when you bite into the sushi it just lights up your taste buds. I would say the only thing negative I have to say is I was super hungry and felt that there was a little bit too much time in between each dish. Overall, I really enjoyed the meal and would recommend it if you are looking for a simple, fresh, original Japanese feeling. It is not the right place if you are looking for exotic rolls or whatnot.
Everything taste amazing .
There was zero wait and the service was quick and smooth. Everyone was very friendly .
The sushi was one of the best tasting ever! Service was
The sushi was one of the best tasting ever! Service was good and the place is elegant. Great crowed and staff. It's a little slow in the kitchen but worth it.
High quality sushi at a reasonable price.
Service is excellent with a delightfully chill ambiance. Visit every time I am in Hollywood.
I decided on going for the light omakase.
With a side order of Ankimo. And I really have to say that quality is everything is hyped up to be and more. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of sushi because I have a particular taste that I enjoy the most . That being said, I can tell that the quality is reflected in the price when it comes to the way that it's cut, the seasoning that's used, the sauces that are composed. And the fact that they have some of the most amazing single orders. I feel like it's definitely worth the price. That being said, the price is a little steep for most. Have a hard time justifying a lunch without an occasion at Sugarfish. But definitely will use it as an excuse to go and probably can find an occasion. One thing to be certain, they make sure that you know that they don't do the crazy rolls and it's not all in American style sushi. In fact, it's a pretty traditional Japanese style, even the furnishing and atmosphere has a very vibe to it. I feel like SUGARFISH is a perfect place if you're craving that Japan. The biggest thing that I noticed was the perfection of the rice and the seasoning on the rice. I think that's the biggest reason why I don't care for most American sushi, places, like a typical you can eat lunch. The rice had the flavor of care and dedication to be perfectly composed in a way to complement the fish. When it comes to the cut of the fish, it's almost unbelievable how close to perfection every slice is. Just looking at the the grain of the slices of the pieces of fish. I was staring at it a little longer than I probably should've in amazement. I'm talking about nearly perfect seasoning on nearly perfect rice topped with a nearly perfect sliced sashimi all nearly executed perfectly in each serving. The temperature was nearly perfect, and the texture was absolutely perfect. When it comes to the Ankimo. it was absolutely amazing with the miso citrus sauce. I had to refrain from licking the plate. It took a lot of self-control, but I managed. No over the top sushi boat, or conveyor belts here. If you're looking for that, it's not the right place.
Ok for being such a trendy spot the food was actually
Ok for being such a trendy spot the food was actually pretty good here and I don't even love love sushi! Really friendly staff, relatively quick service, good sake, Sapporo reserve. Smaller establishment itself inside, but manageable, would definitely come back when in the LA area.
I had to see what everyone was raving about, as Sugarfish
I had to see what everyone was raving about, as Sugarfish is frequently recommended to me. The Hollywood location is nearest to me so I gave them a shot. Honestly, it just tastes like your average sushi and the portions are small. There is no reason why anybody should be paying this much for this quality of sushi. Some of my friends say SF is the McDonald's of expensive sushi and I couldn't agree more. I really don't get the hype at all. Maybe people have more money than they know what to do with, or they haven't had actually good sushi before. Koreatown has better sushi than here. Kazoku has better sushi than here. Toshi in Valley Glen is better and cheaper than here (my second favorite spot). What's that spot in Los Feliz next to Coffee Bean on Hillhurst? By Albertson's? They have better sushi than here. Kura is better and cheaper than here. Buffet sushi may not be better than here but I'll take buffet sushi over underwhelming portions and pretentious, overhyped and greedily priced Sugarfish.
A little overhyped and so expensive but still decent sushi
A little overhyped and so expensive but still decent sushi that comes in really cute packaging.
It has been almost 10 years since I wrote a Yelp review.
Hi Yelp! What place could have brought me back? Well, I had a wonderful experience at Sugarfish. The restaurant is a popular part of Sunset Blvd, a stone's throw from the Palladium and walking distance from my apartment. Sugarfish does have a very simple gimmick: It is an Omakase sushi restaurant. This means that patrons leave the menu selections to the chef or shop. Thus, it is a set, curated menu. All of the set meals are some variation of the "Trust Me" naming convention. Depending on which set meal you order, the dish and sequencing will always be the same. The staff will also suggest that consumption of courses be in order and in a set amount of time to ensure optimum flavor and structural integrity. Texture and flavor was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed the warm sushi rice on nigri and handrolls. I am really used to cold and stale sushi rice, so this was a welcome surprise. However, this doesn't mean you cannot plan your own meal. They do have plenty of ala carte options. Just know, that this is a more serious sushi menu, meaning no strange roll variations popular at most sushi restaurants in the area. Just a much more true sushi experience, especially for folks who have ventured to Japan and partaken of the sushi there.
Yet another excellent Sugarfish experience!! Surprised to
Yet another excellent Sugarfish experience!! Surprised to see the place relatively quiet on a Saturday around 1pm but I was okay with that so that it wouldn't be too crazy. I definitely went overboard because I ordered so much more after the set menu and when I was full, but hey, YOLO because it's worth it for Sugarfish. My server was Jenny but I was also helped out by pretty much every staff and they were all super friendly and attentive. I went with the Don't Think, Just Eat to begin with and followed that with a few extra dishes. Everything was so fresh and delicious, the warm rice was perfect, the seaweed was always crispy, and the flavors were divine. Across the board, a few favorites were definitely the tuna cuts especially that toro tasting that sent me to the moon! The pink lobster was the most unique. The lobster hand roll was amazing. The crab cut roll was one of the best I've ever had. The sea bream with shiso was a blast of flavor. Seriously, nothing is ever wrong at Sugarfish. Oh and I got day time drunk with two bottles of Sugarfish Sake because it's so smooth. Happy to return!
This was actually the worst Sugarfish location I've been to.
I have eaten many times at the Calabasas and Studio City locations, which have been amazing in service and food quality. Yet, this one was very poor in food quality. For instance, the Salmon Kombu, Hirame, and the Kanpachi nigiris were all very fishy and had a rough texture. It is not normally like that, compared to the other locations which had amazing buttery, melt-in-your-mouth bites. But, this location was a big letdown. To the point that I canceled the rest of my orders that were supposed to come because of how turned off I felt from continuing to hope that the rest didn't have a fishy taste to them as well. Anyhow, I don't mind spending $200 at Sugarfish, but to spend that amount for a low quality of fish that left me dissatisfied, it hurts a bit and it's disappointing.
Stopped through for a late lunch a couple days ago and I
Stopped through for a late lunch a couple days ago and I feel the need to reiterate that SUGARFISH Hollywood? Some of the best sushi to be found in all of LA. It's consistently delicious, the cuts of fish clearly of the highest grade (see my photos), the artful presentation always on point, and the service by the decidedly youthful staff is always excellent. A real treat this go around was the weekly special New Zealand lobster nigiri at $9.50. Such a soft and buttery piece of lobster, with notes of truffle and umami and a hint of sweetness swirling about... just terrific.
One of the best sushi experiences I've ever had.
We tried some of their combo options and each were absolutely amazing!
Omg the best sushi I have ever had .
..dim lighting, amazing staff, sit down bar if you want, tip is included with the meal and fresh incredible sushi

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
