It's been a while since I rated a spot and had to share our culinary journey here! We were sad Cockscomb closed but thrilled Taksim is here. The vibe is an open, rustic loft blend of fine and casual experience. We came for dinner as a party of 3 with one friend with food allergies. Everything we ate and drank were not just beautiful but delicious! The service was excellent and we're bummed we didn't get his name. The spot nailed it with the staff service (accents included lol), food, music, and even the serve ware felt like we were not in Soma. Cocktails are creative and well-balanced. We had several of the Sivas Legal. It's rare still to find cocktails that are savory with a little heat and this one did it! Appetizers were the king shrimp and cauliflower soup. Highly recommend! Shrimp felt like buttery pillows of crispy goodness and the soup was light, not too creamy, and a generous portion you can share. We shared the main entrees of risotto and branzino. Risotto has more texture and less creamy than others you may have tried but it was perfectly blended. I love fish and seafood so I have to say the branzino was one of the best I've ever had in my life!!! Tender and melted inside while perfectly crispy outside. We finished off with the lemon sponge cake that were simply scrumptious bite size goodness (and I'm more of a savory person)! Added bonus: We were lucky to be offered some complementary food throughout including a delicious sipping soup cup (didn't get the name) and their Turkish doughnuts. We were debating this over the lemon sponge cake and scored! Again I'm not much of a sweets and the pastry was not sweet like the traditional doughnuts and came with an array of sauces so perfect for me.Overall, I highly recommend for a date night, ladies night, parties, and everything in between. Let's support our local businesses AND take a journey around the world and go to Taksim!
Be the first to ReplyFood was ok but not great.
Quantity was not nearly enough even though twice a reasonable price. Don't go hungry or you'll leave hungry. Expect to spend $75 per person if you don't eat or drink much. The dinner plate only had one item on it and it was mediocre. One the plus side the ambiance is elegant and the staff was attentive.

Taksim is an under-the-radar neighborhood gem! My wife and I recently tried out this modern Turkish restaurant for the first time, and we were pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed our dinner date in the beautiful ambience, with delicious cocktails and a memorable spread of unique, creative dishes. Our server was friendly, attentive, and generous, taking great care to make our experience a special one. As vegetarians, we had a plethora of options and left feeling fulfilled. We're excited to come back to Taksim in the near future!Drinks: * How Can I Go To Taksim?* NevizadeApps:* Dips sampler (our highlight of the dinner)* Çig kofteEntree:* Blackened Cauliflower "Steak" with demiglaze sauceWe were too full for dessert but enjoyed a pleasant Turkish tea to finish off our meal.

This review is mainly about my my overall experience with Taksim (other food reviews speak for themselves). Taksim was very accommodating. I called for a party of 13 (3 weeks ahead of time). I was able to customize my prix fixe menu (3 courses) for only $67/person. I chose option A ($60/person), but switched out the fishes (+$7). I elected to have the dorade "heart-breaker" instead of the branzino. They said that we could share the private room with another large party for a fraction of how much the private room would be. There was a minimum spend and we met that immediately. This reservation was completed with a $400 deposit. My menu was: first course dips, second course polenta, dorade or chicken, third course donut or rice pudding. The day of: two people got sick and couldn't make it, and they alerted me that in the agreement, they had full right to charge me for the people who couldn't make it, but they didn't! We came in and brought out one bottle of white wine (there is corkage fee) and we were ushered upstairs to the private dining room. The other large party was there but there was enough space not to hear them. The food was delicious. We ordered 2 dozen oysters & the lamb carpaccio. The oysters were probably the best oysters that I have ever had! I loved the chicken but would probably order the dorade next time (amazing flavors). There were no complaints about the food or drinks. The ambiance was nice and servers were very attentive. Taksim was a great place to have a birthday dinner. It's new and chic. A modern restaurant with a mixture of casual dining and fine dining.

Be the first to ReplyMediocre and overpriced Mediterranean food.
I was hoping whatever would replace the killed by COVID Cockscomb would be equally as good, it's a massive disappointment, with Cockscomb being much better in creativeness and flavors. While the interior and space of the restaurant is nice and the service was attentive, the food is mediocre, uninspired, and overpriced.Nothing really stood out, it's your very typical Mediterranean fare. The prices were quite high given the quality of the food, which was disappointing. Other Yelp reviews say easy reservations, but it's because this place is just absolutely uninspiring. For similar prices and not too far away, formerly Michelin starred Mourad is eons ahead in every way, be it price, taste, affordability, service, aesthetics. Everything. While the interior and service is good, the food was not up to par and the prices were high given the quality. Maybe go if you really can't get a reservation anywhere else, but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

Taksim has been on my radar of restaurants to try and we came came here for my partner's birthday dinner. We emailed ahead of time to make a reservation since we had a big party; they were able to accommodate us since we emailed a month in advance. You can walk in or make a reservation if you don't have a big party. This place is a hole in the wall spot. I love Mediterranean food and this place does not disappoint at all, especially the quality was top tier and the prices were not extreme. Since we had a big party, we had a set menu which consisted of 3 courses. They also allowed you to add on items that were not on the set menu.We started off with the first course of dips and pita bread; it was so delicious and very generous on the pita bread. (This was included in the set menu) We added on the olive crusted lamb carpaccio and the dozen oysters; I did not have the oyster but everyone said the oysters were fresh and tasty. The lamb carpaccio was refreshing and light, it is the perfect appetizer. For the second course, we all got to pick between the dorade (fish) or the chicken or the polenta. I chose the chicken and it was so flavorful and the chicken was juicy and it was served over a bed of quinoa. I was definitely stuffed by the end of this course. My friends who opted for the fish dish said it was delectable. Finally we finished with dessert, and for this course we had the option of Turkish donuts or raki palace pudding. All of us chose the Turkish donuts which came with a little bit of chocolate ice cream.Overall, I think this place is great for a date night or if you are going out with a group of friends. The service here is amazing. Definitely recommend to people to check out before they start becoming more and more popular.

We had gathered in a large group to celebrate my husband's birthday. So we had high expectations for the meal, but our dinner experience was lacking. The portions, of both the appetizers (pita with lots of sauces *in very tiny amounts* that you really cannot share them) and of our main course were really small. We got half of the appetizers first and it took us nearly half an hour (if not more) to get the second portion of our appetizers! Our waiter seemed to disappear in the meantime, not checking in with us or offering any alternatives. My main course was their signature fish dish but again it was a small portion definitely not the standard single portion of fish which is 6-8oz. More like 3oz...half that portion (or less for some of us). For $54, definitely on the high side even for a great SF restaurant, don't you expect to get a fully satisfying entree?!! The dessert was the only exception and it was a decent portion and quite delicious. We paid *nearly $600* for a party of eight people. The service could have been more attentive all round at these prices, and in advising us on how much we need to order; not just getting our order to our table. When I got home I needed to eat a late night snack after our three course meal so I worried about my friends as I had chosen this restaurant!! Looks like they want to keep their prices high and portions small. But I'm sorry to say it did not make for a satisfying meal.

Taksim has a lot going for it: cozy ambience, unique menu, easy reservations, and quality dishes and cocktails. However, the prices made my experience here off putting - even for a business meal. The Esmerelda cocktail was great and probably the only item ordered that felt in line with / below standard SF prices. The portion size of the Taksim sampler was disappointingly tiny, especially at a price of $37. The freshly baked pita bread was delicious though, and I would have loved to order several more pieces! For my main course I ordered the Branzino, which was tasty and thankfully filling. I probably wouldn't dine here again unless they adjust their pricing, given there are other great options in town for Mediterranean cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyTaksim was an unexpected find on a last minute dinner
Taksim was an unexpected find on a last minute dinner reservation hunt, and a turned out to be a hidden gem in our very own neighborhood. Pricy for sure, but it's a worthy candidate for your once-in-a-while fine dining splurge. Turn down a dimly lit alley at the edge of SoMa and suddenly you're greeted with the steady murmur of restaurant-goers and wine glass clinks under string lights. The restaurant has multiple intimate rooms (with 5-6 tables each) throughout the building. We got a tour as the waitstaff led us to our table. It was packed with patrons during our weekend night visit. We started off with the $36 dip sampler for our party of two, and ordered the Eggplant Stuffed Peppers and Wheat Berry Risotto for the rest of the meal. Everything hit the mark, and I felt like we got a good variety of flavors and explored multiple sides of the menu with our choices. The waitstaff were attentive, friendly, and generous in offering us rundowns of our dishes. The portion sizes are on the smaller size so prepare (either your stomach or your wallet) accordingly. For example, the pita sampler comes with only 3 tiny pieces of pita and every additional three pieces is $7 more, so be wary. Perfect for a birthday dinner (a popular idea; we sang happy birthday for no less than 2 parties in our small room alone within 30 minutes), anniversaries, dates, any kind of sophisticated celebration. The waitstaff do a great job of facilitating and participating in them. Would also recommend reserving beforehand (especially for big parties).
Be the first to ReplyI was finally able to eat here.
We had planned on going here for my cousin's graduation dinner but he was out of the country. I couldn't wait to try. There isn't much parking on restaurant street but I found parking on the next street. I asked for recommendations and then the Server explained the menu to me. I ordered Taksim Trio Sampler Plate which is All dips coming with plain pita breads as a starter and then I continue with King Shrimps which is wrapped with Kadaif. That was amazing. I didn't have shrimp like this before. After this shrimp definitely I picked Melon Salad. That was so seasonal and fresh. For Entree, I had Lamb Chops which is smoked with almond woods in a wood oven. Omg, I don't wanna lose its taste. By the way, they have a full bar and special signature cocktails. A definite dish to get. I loved it. I wish this place was closer to where I live but I will be coming back. Thanks to all guys and owners to serve modern Mediterranean foods in SF!
Be the first to ReplyA disappointment.
The space is still beautiful. We have happy memories of amazing meals in the space when it was the Cockscomb restaurant.I'd been looking forward to trying Taksim, but it was a disappointing experience, so many little things weren't right that by the end of the evening we heartily regretted our choice and resented the bill. The service wasn't great, the waiter insisted on removing my bread plate even though I made it clear I was still eating the bread from it. There was plenty of room to move it to the side; no need to remove the plate. The octopus, though attractive and creative, didn't taste fresh. The polenta was cold. Otherwise it was a very good dish; but cold polenta is like cold porridge, not nice. There was no beer on draft. We were presented with a good beer list, the waiter took my beer order, but eventually I was told that there was a problem with all the taps, so no draft beer.We fell for the still or sparkling trick. Most of the high-end restaurants we've been to recently make their own sparkling water in house, and it's complimentary. But, here, sparkling meant an $8 bottle of Ferrarelle water imported from Italy appeared at the table. If you want to sell fancy sparkling water, put it with a price on the menu. Not only did it feel like a stealth markup on the meal, it wasn't a green choice. In summary, if you want to try Taksim, study the latest reviews. Maybe if we'd done cocktails and appetizers like some other reviewers our experience would have been better.

4.5 stars: Four stars for the food and drinks, and extra half star for service. Went there on a Saturday for my baeski's bday. Thought the place would've been more crowded given the excellent ratings, but it was about 40% full. No complaints though because we prefer less crowded places. Service was excellent!! We ordered:two cocktails - Take Me to Taksim and one other drink whose name I can't recall. We love cocktails with interesting flavors, but these were just ok.bread (non-pita) - this was very good, especially with the butter! You can watch the cooks constantly putting dough into the oven.king shrimp appetizer - interesting presentation with the crunchy bitsoctopus - the octopus by itself was salty, but delicious when mixed with all the other items on the platepolenta - not bad not bad! The runny egg was a great touch. We passed on dessert, but they gave us a huge bday dessert plate anyway, and two of the waiters sang Happy Birthday to my baeski lolEnded the meal with two Turkish coffees (don't drink the mud at the bottom of the cup!)
Be the first to ReplyWow! This up-and-coming restaurant is a major thumbs up.
The chef, Daniel Gribble, an understudy at French Laundry, struts his stuff. The restaurant ambience, the food presentation, the flavor combinations, down to the Turkish coffee, is top-notch. The service was incredible which is something you can hardly expect these days. What an absolute joy this evening's dinner was and thank you to Wil Chow for showing it to me.

Was excited to try this, but the food was unfortunately a little lackluster and disappointing for the price. We ordered almost all of the entrees, but none of them really stood out. Our favorite was probably the dip and bread appetizer, we got the sampler so we could try all of the different dips. I'd skip the mains and just come for drinks and the bread + dip. Service is also fairly slow...

Wow, I did not expect this place to be so good but it really was excellent.Sample platter with all the different sauces was great to start with, and the crispy shrimp was very interesting.Branzino was very good and the lamb chops were solid, with a nice smoky taste.Turkish donuts with all the types of chocolate was also excellent. Really, everything was great. We sat at the chef's counter so had a great view of all the effort and intricacies in making our dish. Definitely will visit again! I see some pictures of duck breast from previous visitors but they were not on the menu today.

Be the first to ReplyWhat a night.
Fine dining. Excellent service. Upbeat environment. Reasonable price. I had the scallops, black lentils, and peas. All perfect. I don't know how they did it, but the scallops were the best I've ever had and paired nicely with the sauces. As an appetizer we had pita bread with hummus, baba ganoush, and red pepper (manahanan- I can't remember the spelling :) spreads. Always a good sign when they appetizers are amazing. My wife had the polenta and ratatouille - a marvelous mix of a flavors. At the end, we were comped Turkish chocolate doughnuts, chocolate ice cream, with thin chocolate dusted with pistachio. It was my birthday and the waiters came out with a lit candle. You know, when you have a lovely evening and everthing goes perfect, you can forget the stress and strife of the world. Just for a few hours. That's what happened at this small, intimate taste of the Mediterranean night out.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurants in SF.
Great food from start to finish. Great attentive service. Loved it and can't wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food but lack of transparency on pricing.
We were served sparkling water & bread but came to see it all charged on our bill. Not very nice..
Be the first to ReplyThe lamb shank was way too chewy.
The staff were just completely rude and incompetent and didn't even know what was on their own menu. I noticed the floors were not as clean as they should be also.

Hey, Yelper! First-ever review here - i'm a longtime user, but always was too lazy to contribute to reviews... That is, until I went to Taksim. Went here with a group of friends to celebrate an early birthday, and had the most incredible experience. We weren't sure what to expect but decided to try this place out since it's new. We were so blown away by the food. Here were the standouts:The dip spread- get all the dips you possibly can. My favorite was the tomato marmalade which the server told me takes days to make - it was rich and reduced so much it had this deep sweetness to me, kinda the way balsamic does. So good. I also am a sucker for muhammara (red bell pepper dip) which was super smoky. I can't ever say no to whipped labne, and the tzatziki and baba ganoush were crowd-pleasers. Shrimp - get these no matter what you do. They're wrapped in crispy spun pastry dough and the shrimp are enormous and juicy. I've never had a dish like this -- anywhere. Guinea hen - this was so perfectly cooked. I have had this a lot of places where it's either too chewy or overcooked so i'd come back just for this cos it was done so perfectly. Scallops - like the guinea hen, hard to find a place that does them well. These ones were perfectly cooked and so sweet. Probably my favorite of the entreesBranzino - okay, so to be honest, i wasn't that excited about this initially (my friend wanted it) because branzino most places usually is pretty boring, but this one was so crispy. Plus, the anchovy rice pilaf (which i had not realized came with it) had the table arguing amongst ourselves over who got to finish it. Turkish donuts for dessert - these were INCREDIBLE. the donuts themselves aren't actually sweet, which is probably why i loved this dish (i hate overly sugary dishes). but they came with a bunch of different types of chocolate (ice cream, chocolate marscapone (i think), and chocolate sauce which you could dip it in. They were so light and fluffy - might just order some of these to go next time I'm in the area. Lastly, the service was above and beyond. The servers were constantly coming by to fill our water and change our plates (like three times) and the owner came by to explain all the dishes and how they made them, which was really nice. He was also super patient, cos we always had follow up questions on how the dishes were done. Clearly, the servers and the whole team have a passion for the food - felt like a Michelin restaurant in that way. My friends literally said, "i've never been treated this well at a restaurant." Can't wait to go back. Enjoy!!
