The Angel Restaurant Ludlow Reviews from The Last Year
Total joy
Quirky and charming Spanish Tapas place . Great variety of cocktails with Negronis a speciality. Unique , slightly mad interior. Lovely owners and staff. Oysters and fish dishes looked fantastic, but tapas seem to be what most people come for. And what a happy place this is..everybody positively buzzing and loving it. Loved all the tapas we ordered. Maybe it’s not exactly like what you ate in Barcelona but you’re in Ludlow so get a grip and enjoy it. Best restaurant experience for ages. The loo has the finest selection of seaside postcards on the wall that I’ve ever seen .
Good choice of tapas and seafood
Good selection of tapas dishes and lovely fish / seafood main courses. As with most tapas style venues, the bill can soon mount up but the food certainly makes it worth the extra pennies.
An unpretentious gem
absolutely top place. superb tapas - really good quality and very espanol. great service and very chilled vibe. would definitely recommend.
Brilliant value.
We chose this restaurant as was advertised on this site as a cheese and wine restaurant. Though when we sat down we realised now they mostly serve fish. Our disappointment was soon invaded as dishes were Lovely at brilliant prices ,would definitely go back next time we are in Ludlow .
Fabulous Mediterranean food and atmosphere
We were a group of 13 friends and The Angel were the perfect hosts. They were so accommodating. The tapas and fish were fabulous. The service was friendly and efficient. They were happy for us to stay and chat and drink after the meal. We definitely felt the Mediterranean vibe. Excellent!
Nice, quirky, fresh
Nice quirky place with an interesting menu. Simple, fresh food, cooked with Mediterranean flair. Lovely pleasant young staff who make you feel very welcome, quick friendly service, nice quality wine.
a cracking find !
Super tapas place - fine food , lively atmosphere, great service, quirky decor, excellent value. Highly recommended !
Highly recommended
Amazing atmosphere, service and food. The Prawns were to die for. The staff were attentive and friendly.
Great quirky restaurant
What a great quirky place. Decor is amazing. I could have stayed here all evening, especially if someone had begun to play the piano. This sits in the upstairs dining area. The main menu was mainly fish, both myself and my partner had the monkfish, which was delicious. There is also a tapas menu. If our food was anything to go by, anything you ate would be delicious. Well worth a visit.
Best fish I've had for years
Incredible authentic cooking. Fish recommended, you will have little better in the UK. It is as fresh as you will find and cooked to perfection. For those who remember the Jolly Frog, this is Martin at his finest. Cracking atmosphere too and amazing friendly staff.
Go somewhere else
Dreadful experience. Having dined in Spain many times this did not feel like Spanish food. Food was lukewarm, smothered in mayo type sauce, poor presentation, not very appetising at all. Overpriced. We paid the bill, said we were disappointed and left Will not return and would not recommend.
Once is enough.
Tiny portions, huge prices, and an experience I don't care to repeat. I wad hugely disappointed and had expected much better.
Disappointing
we tried the tapas food luke warm, undercooked chicken only redeeming factor was the wine. We definitely won't return. Having visited Spain and experienced real tapas, this was a disappointment. we did complain to the waitress, but got no response, the chef was too busy chatting to aquaintances.
A great first visit!
My wife and I called in at The Angel for early evening drinks during our 1-night stay in Ludlow. The welcome was fantastic from Martin the owner and Tash our server. Just before we left we looked in at the restaurant upstairs and were amazed by the vibrant atmosphere in a packed room. Although we had booked elsewhere for our evening meal, we were tempted to stay with such a wide choice of food on offer, but we will definitely return and dine here when we are next in the area. Thank you Martin and Tash for your kindness.
For an aperitif the ladies decided...........................
Housed within the former 16th century coaching inn the Angel Bar and Restaurant offers a wide and varied collection of dishes. With a choice of taking lunch in any of three areas (including the outside pavement terrace) my wife, daughter, and myself decided to move upstairs to the 1st floor. Seated at a round table by a large bay window we were well placed for views overlooking Broad Street in the heart of Ludlow. For an aperitif the ladies decided they would like Sangria, whilst I opted for Vida Loca Branco, a dry Portugese white wine. Thereafter, our first order was for a tray of Loch Fyne oysters Served in their natural state with the usual accompaniments they were plump and succulent, and a nice start to the proceedings. The main course included grilled gambas (prawns), grilled polpo (octopus), pinchos morunos (lamb kebabs), patatas (potatoes), tomatoes salad, and a good supply of local bread. The latter being mainly used to mop up the wonderfully delicious garlic jus. With only one diner requiring a dessert - tarte de Santiago (almond tart) the meal ended with an espresso coffee for myself. The various dishes met with the approval of all concerned in relation to portion sizes, presentation, and taste. Service was good and the upstairs dining area was not overly busy, so we relaxed for a good 2 hours or more, whilst soaking up the interesting interior with all of its furnishing adornments and pictures. Living at the far end of north Shropshire Ludlow is not a regular port of call, but judging from our initial experience we would hope to visit the Angel again.
